Finding it really hard to pick a boys name, I've got a little boy called Louie and thinking of Jayden for this one could be shortend to J or middle name will be Joseph as that's my dads name so Jayden Joseph could also be JJ. Honest opinions please :)

I really don't like Jayden and really like Joseph. Not sure about JJ tbh. You could have james with 'jay' as a nn.

Might just be me though and once they're named no one will say anything.

Monkeyandanimal · 31/05/2014 21:56

no. awful name. sorry. How about Joseph for first name?

Biscuitsneeded · 31/05/2014 21:57

Hate Jayden, really like Joseph. If you like JJ as a nickname, how about Joseph James?

Jayden is not a popular name on MN, you will get lots of people telling you they don't like it.
I can't see the problem with it tbh, although personally I think Jay is nicer, but that's my preference and it doesn't matter what I think.
If you like the name go for it, don't let anyone put you off.

SoftSheen · 31/05/2014 22:00

Joseph is a great name. Why not just use Joseph?

Jayden is absolutely awful

Yama · 31/05/2014 22:03

Love Joseph. Love James with nickname Jay.

Louie is a great name. So is Joseph Smile

Jayden is awful, sorry. I had several signs when pregnant with DD that I should call my baby Jayden. Hmm I can understand why you like it, but really, there are many better names out there.

Only1scoop · 31/05/2014 22:08

Jayden I don't like

Joseph I do

I like Jayden and Aidan but not Hayden or Kaiden for some reason! But you might, if you're not totally set on JJ I think kaiden/aidan go best with Joseph.

TightyMcTight · 31/05/2014 22:10

Hello Eat Shit Derek. I thought of you earlier whilst watching Step Brothers!

Not a huge fan of Jayden TBH. I prefer Jay.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:11

The 'problem' with Jayden is that it will immediately mark him out as 'not middle class'.

You may not see this as a problem at all, in which case go for it.

But I do think names are important so I would try to give any child a pretty neutral sounding name that wouldn't allow others immediately to put him in a particular box.

I think 'joseph' ticks all the boxes - its classic, its classless, you can shorten it to a variety of other nicknames if 'joseph' all the time is too heavy or formal.

mummy1973 · 31/05/2014 22:14

Joseph yes. Jayden no. IMHO.

eatmydust · 31/05/2014 22:15

I don't like Jayden at all. It will date horribly. Joseph is lovely and goes much better with Louie.

If you want JJ - how about James/ Jude/ Josh/ Jack/Jake/Jacob.....

Plenty of successful people in the US with 'not middle class' names - Condoleezza anyone? It's about time we caught up.

Iswallowedawatermelon · 31/05/2014 22:16

I prefer Aidan Joseph or Joseph Aidan.

Or Jay (another middle name)

I really don't like the alliteration of Jayden Joseph and Jayden is one of those names people love or hate- so Id prefer to avoid the angst :)

Bannakaffalatta · 31/05/2014 22:16

I know a Jamie John who is known as JJ.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 31/05/2014 22:17

Usual sorry.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:18

Clint88 - not according to the authors of Freakonomics who sent out identical CVS but with different names. The 'unique' names did not get interviews. James and John did.

People do judge about names. And they do it all over the world. Look at the crap Barack Obama gets for his name.

One Condoleezza Rice doesn't prove much. Except that she is pretty exceptional in every way.
