Finding it really hard to pick a boys name, I've got a little boy called Louie and thinking of Jayden for this one could be shortend to J or middle name will be Joseph as that's my dads name so Jayden Joseph could also be JJ. Honest opinions please :)

The point is Derek none of us know everything so none of us can be aware of all connotations and names do matter.

fledermaus · 31/05/2014 22:50

Jayden is very trendy at the moment. I like Jay though.

How about Joey?

I think the name Joseph eats balls.

The more I hear the name Jaden, the more I like it.

Whoever upthread ^^ said chav scum could you just fuck off with the c-word although saying it rather marks you out as one, so thanks for the heads up

And if the rivers flowed chocolate and George Clooney proposed to me everything would be great.

Trouble is, I see no signs at all of us all evolving into one lovely amorphous ball of classless society.

All I see is that when my daughter went to one school in one area all her school friends had certain names. And now she goes to a posh school in a posh area, they don't.

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 22:54

Nowt wrong with Paul but Derek, on the other hand

I said chav scum - in the context of I would not think that someone called Jayden was chav scum

I was using the words to illustrate the reactions of some.

Not saying I signed up to it.

sorry if that wasn't clear.

manicinsomniac · 31/05/2014 22:55

I quite like both Jayden and Joseph but not together. I agree that, to many, Jayden has negative associations but the sound of the name itself is, I think, really nice.

The 'problem' with Jayden is that it will immediately mark him out as 'not middle class'.

That might be true in general but not always. I taught a Jayden in a private school (posh private school too). Interestingly his brother was Joleyon which has just come up as a name with the reverse 'connotation'. Maybe that family just liked to mess with people's stereotyping!

don't like Jayden (and I think it will date very quickly, and I say that as someone with a very dated name) and I really hate Jay as a nickname for any name. Joseph is nice but again I can't bear Joe. Picky picky picky.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:57

I dare not share my full reactions to the name Derek.

But I do immediately think of Derek and Clive.

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 22:58

Well no, actually. You'd be MC if your nn was EatShitDerekForLuncheon

Will smith's son spells it Jaden, which I think is lovely. Jackson is also pretty cool.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 31/05/2014 23:00

I never seem to like J starting names (including my own!) And think that Louie is a lovely name and just that it doesnt sit right next to Jayden.

Are there any other names on your shortlist?

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 23:02

EatShitJesus your Spanish cousin Grin

FatherSpodoKomodo · 31/05/2014 23:03

I have a Jayden (and a son with a K name, and son with one of the names HolidayCriminal cringes at!)

What can I say. I like the name. I liked the name 18 years ago when i first heard it (on Star Trek actually!) and 15 years ago when DS was born. He's a good lad, doing well at school. I hope he's left an impression on his teachers that Jayden's are good kids as he's one of the oldest ones around here.

I'm not bothered about the name dating him. My name dates me, as do most of my friends (endless Sarahs, Claires and Tracys) and so does DHs name. It's never bothered me, it's not something I've ever thought about.

Iswallowedawatermelon · 31/05/2014 23:06

If you really like J names how about Jordan, Jackson, Jonah, Jasper or Jonathan.

HolidayCriminal · 31/05/2014 23:11

er, out of curiosity, are these markers of Middleclassness?

Being a home-owner (but not too nice or tatty a home)?
Sending children to a small/medium size village school miles away rather than local big town school?
Sending children to Beavers & cubs?
Dressed & made up impeccably yet fashionably?
Choosing a homebirth & evangelising about how wonderful it was?
Breastfeeding?
Being a music teacher (secondary)?
Performing & recording live music (not grunge, more like easy listening)?
Home-edding because you find education system too target-driven & stifling of creativity?

I only mention those things because one of the Jaydens I know has parents who ticks those boxes. But still can't be a MC home, I guess... Wink

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 23:12

Dorsn't everyone's name date them?

The new trend for 'classic names' will be dating our dc in 15 or so years.

And some of the fancy new ones: Antigone, Persephone, Ptolomy. Classic in the classical sense, but they'll be the Clives/Franks/Deborahs of the future.

If we have another dc, they'll be called Aadvark, male or female.

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 23:15

OP: would you consider Dewey or Hughie?

Sorry, couldn't resist Grin

Go for Jaden/Jayden if you like the name Thanks
