Just that really. I'm pregnant with dc2 and I love lots of names but wouldn't have the guts to use some of them - silly I know!!!

One of my faves for a girl is Luna/Lunar.

Just for fun- what are yours?

Toughasoldboots - with the two Portias you know, do their names get shortened to anything (if so what?) and do people mistakenly think it has anything to do with the car?!

GetDownNesbitt · 27/08/2012 20:14

Raphael

Lysander

And I love Dulcie but it would have been alliterative and cruel to DS!

magoosmom · 27/08/2012 20:18

I love the name Diego, always have, and it sounds great with our surname, DH wasn't brave enough though so we had to choose another, maybe next time!

gazzalw · 27/08/2012 20:22

David is a lovely name but Dave just isn't!

crunched · 27/08/2012 20:24

I would have loved a Diggory .. but DH said "No"

Nicebeaver · 27/08/2012 20:47

Dicken.
Love it. Obv would be too cruel...

Nicebeaver · 27/08/2012 20:48

...and Gabriel - lovely name but too girly maybe for a boy

Mylittlepuds · 27/08/2012 20:55

Ooh yes Avery is nice. If this baby is a girl possibly Emma Avery?

Mylittlepuds · 27/08/2012 20:58

Great middle name inspiration these - you can be a bit more wild with middle names. Arthur Haratio?

I have always liked Courtney for a girl but tis far too 80s/chavvy to indulge.

Allofaflumble · 27/08/2012 21:35

I know its not a way out name but I always loved the name Rosalind (e) - it sounds so romantic and if I'd had a girl would have called her that.

loolooskiptotheloo · 27/08/2012 21:36

i love the name chester for a boy...but live in chester!

ProcrastinationStation · 27/08/2012 21:36

I love the name Honoria for a girl, don't think it would go down too well with my family (or a Northern Irish accent) though Grin

perfectstorm · 27/08/2012 21:40

I sneaked Gabriel in as a middle name, yes. Grin

My baby brother was 19 at the time, and he said Gabriel would be a fantastic name if we had a cool, guitar playing 17 year old. But he pointed out that 1) he might be a geeky, awkward 17 year old who hated the stand-out name, and 2) he had to survive to the age of 17, first.

That was when I conceded. (Though given my DB's own preference was Thor, I'm not sure he had a leg to stand on.)

perfectstorm · 27/08/2012 21:42

My DM wanted Conrad. I did not.

I like Caspar, but it's too Friendly Ghost.

SamraLee · 27/08/2012 22:12

My husband loves history and so our daughter's name, as well as possible future children's names, all have historical inspiration. He loves Alexander the Great, but Alexander is a normal name and I fell in love with the name Hephaestion, but we both felt it was a little too "out there".

We decided to do the opposite with our children and give them unusual first names, but plain middle names so they have the option of using their middle name if they don't like their first name.

StillSquiffy · 27/08/2012 22:56

Ruby Tuesday.

Oh, we were that close, when we were at the registry office....

emmyloo2 · 27/08/2012 22:59

Humphrey. I love it.

ScorpionQueen · 27/08/2012 23:05

I know a Ruby Tuesday! :)

mammmamia · 27/08/2012 23:06

Ace. Yes it from a Jilly Cooper novel Blush but i think would sound great with our surname. DH wouldn't allow so our DS has a much more normal name, also starting with A but if we ever had another DS would want to name him something we could shorten to Ace Blush

cardamomginger · 27/08/2012 23:16

Lilith and Izavel

nm123 · 27/08/2012 23:51

Spike
Woody
Jett
Pablo
Fabrice

Doris
Nora

If/when we have dc2 s/he will most likely be Mabel or Barnaby. I like Ethel, Mary, tabitha and jemima too.

TheLaminator · 28/08/2012 07:47

Gomez, Gideon, Blue & Dante for boys
Honey, Maggie & Mirrabelle for girls.

Our future pets will take these names.

ponytails · 28/08/2012 07:55

i love the name Phoenix but im not allowed any more babies

plantsitter · 28/08/2012 08:35

We seriously considered Minerva for DD1. I semi-wish we'd used it now. DH was angling for Thorold for a boy but as we have girls I never had to have that conversation!

I would love to call a girl Ginger but not sure I would dare.

sparklechops · 28/08/2012 08:45

Cherry and Liberty. Both were vetoed by DH!
