Pretty much all the names I like are unusual Blush

Like Tittywhistles and Fireoverbabylon I love some of the african names, precious and treasure I think are beautiful. And FOB, it's so cool you like Grayling

smokeandglitter · 07/06/2012 10:36

Oh and Hester, iseendust you just reminded me Grin

frumpet · 07/06/2012 10:39

Pasiphae · 07/06/2012 10:41

I love Philomene, Aphra or Boheme.

Thaddeus, Matthias, Rudyard, Zephyr, Harold or Clovis or Aristide, or Anatole, or Basil.. Endless list for boys.

FireOverBabylon · 07/06/2012 10:41

Nah! Go for it. Plus you get to read him a cool story about a little boy's lovely relationship with his grandma.

Never heard it as an English nickname for Edward though - I just presumed it was African.

DivineInspiration · 07/06/2012 10:43

YY to 'virtue' names - I used to get the same train to work every morning along with a woman, I think Nigerian, taking her DDs to school - they were Precious, Prize and Treasure. I used to hear some people sniggering, but I think they're lovely things to call your children Smile

FireOverBabylon · 07/06/2012 10:43

Sorry my last post was for birdofthenorth. There were suddenly loads of posts added whilst I was typing and my random Nah! post didn't make sense any more as it didn't follow on from hers.

note to self - not only typing to one person but lots.....

festivalwidow · 07/06/2012 11:16

I like Hebrew names as well - Rivkeh and Rocheleh for a girl; Aryeh, Levi and Asher for boys.
Also like Zora and Jelena for girls.
None of these (with possible exception of Jelena) would work even slightly with my surname though...

fluffydressinggown · 07/06/2012 11:22

Kestley for a girl. It is a bit wrong but very right. Would never ever use it though.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 07/06/2012 11:25

Oh yes to Clover, it is beautiful, my love for its stems from the wonderful Clover Carr. Husband thinks it sounds like a cow name, so was a no no for our dc. Sad

Jeremiah, Jem for short. Love it.

quirrelquarrel · 07/06/2012 11:30

Cloedi
Hannelore (German name, not common in UK)
Sorrel (don't know if it's suddenly become popular?)
Dagmar
Hilaire
Makepeace, Loveday
Jorma
Arabia
Hedda
Waldemar
Cobalt
Lomax
Lothar

I have a list of names saved in My Documents, so I've just had a quick look and pinched the most uncommon ones Blush I know it's long!

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 07/06/2012 11:32

I love Isolde for a girl.
Also really love Wolfgang.

CatherinaJTV · 07/06/2012 11:48

Anahita for a girl (Persian goddess of heavenly and earthly waters)

DD would be a Roxanne if it had gone with our last name

Ariel for a boy (totally impossible in UK and Europe due to the laundry detergent)

DD voted my down on "Gustav" as a middle name for DS, sadly - still love that name.

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/06/2012 11:54

Hypatia. Although she met a sticky end.

Spice17 · 07/06/2012 11:55

I like Smith for a boy (am having a girl though and DH vetoed unsuprisingly)

Don't know why but love it also love Cougar Town

Lunarlyte · 07/06/2012 11:57

Wilona, for a girl. It's old English for 'desperately wanted'

Raphael for a boy

PlayEatSleep · 07/06/2012 11:59

Wolf

BuntyPenfold · 07/06/2012 12:10

Halcyon for a girl.

Kit for a boy.

bebejones · 07/06/2012 12:21

I'm really loving loads of the names from 'Game of Thrones' at the moment.

Daenerys, Cersei, Arya for girls

Theon, Tyrion for boys.

I like alot of classical Greek names. DDs name is Greek but not unusual. Although we did consider Athena.

Other favourites are

Héloïse, Quinn (I don't normally like surname as first name names but really like this one) Estrella (which I think is Spanish for star?)

Hector, Montgomery (which I may use if I ever have a boy & DH lets me) Otto, Arlo & Tighe.

Pudgy2011 · 07/06/2012 12:22

Dylan. For a girl. Love it!

I figure nobody asks Cameron Diaz why she has a boys' name, or Dylan Lauren for that matter.

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/06/2012 12:23

oooh me too bebe! Also Eddard and Sansa.

Pudgy2011 · 07/06/2012 12:28

Also loved Lachlan for a boy and Lincoln but will push for those when we have next DC!

marceline · 07/06/2012 12:29

Taliesin- my most favourite name.

quirrelquarrel · 07/06/2012 12:31

Oh yes! Heloise and Abelard. Lovely.

MrsWindsor · 07/06/2012 12:32

Used to be obsessed with the name Bellatrix. Don't know why. Would probably be pretty evil of me. So I called my cat Bellatrix instead!
