DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

Unusual girls names seem much easier than boys, or is that just me?

Naturally281110 · 17/02/2012 20:15

Liking Fleur and Reuben. Not too sure on Solange from the whole Beyonce thing Hmm.
Is Hebe pronounced Heebee or heeb?
My friend had goldfish called eneey, meany, miney and mo :) Not suitable baby names though....
Chateauneuf- never heard of those but thank you for pointing that out- good to know!
Insanityscratching- now cant stop humming "Hey Jude"! Romily is an interesting one though, thanks.
Never come across Inigo- kind of like Indigo which sounds pretty??
Selks- DH is liking Lara and I like Flora (defintaley flowery!!)
Startail- I can see how Rebecca could be awkward!

How about Harmony or Melodie? Just thought of them and DH hasn't pulled a face at me yet.......

I'm so impressed with everyones suggestions- i wish I'd posted a thread weeks ago- wouldve saved me hours on the internet going round in circles! :)

Heebee for Hebe. Was on my shortlist,so I love it!

PestoPenguin · 17/02/2012 20:19

Hebe is like Phoebe, but with an 'h'

I like Melody, but wouldn't spell it with the 'ie'. Never come across Harmony, but why not Smile?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 17/02/2012 20:21

No intentional Mediterranean vibe but more than happy to explore names from all origins. My mum is Austrian and there are some lovely girls names- Martina, Mianna, Tamsin, Ursula (little mermaid...) but not so keen on the boys names.
Countess- I'm liking Sid! It made me smile and that counts for a lot. Meg is very cute too.
Manicinsomniac- fab suggestions- am adding them to my suddenely much longer list!
Scoobydont- some great names but my local baby groups are awash with Ambers, Hopes, Freyas and Darcys! Elsa is an interesting one....
PestoPenguin- is Anwen from the SnowSpider? It's beautiful name.
Thepathankhanswitch- Ned made me smile like Sid- I'd imagine they could both be cheeky chappies with those names! How do you pronounce Calliope, I've never heard it before. DH is chewing over Celeste at the moment...
Lorcan is a bit too similar to Logan (my DS and could confuse all of us!!)

Or , as someone else said , you have to go for names that are not the names of any current 0-18 year olds so 'older' names

Naturally281110 · 17/02/2012 20:38

Febreeze- is there a Buffy theme here Wink. I love Seth but a friend has alas pinched it already. Eliza has come up a few times now, definately one to mull over. Interflora never occured to us.....point well made!

Naturally281110 · 17/02/2012 20:44

Croissantneuf- definately true about considering 'older' names. DH likes Fraser but I cant get away from the TV show. I like Fern too.
Countess- Malachi is a good one and Nancy.

I cant believe how many good suggestions keep on coming! Or the lack of imagination I had on my own (DH isn't very good at coming up with ideas- he simply likes/dislikes the ones I tell him!)
