...to counteract the likelihood that his middle name will be -eek- Keith!!!

MN is after FIL (who is lovely, but whose name isn't, & who has no middle name!!).

First name needs to be Scottish as a family tradition. So I need the best, coolest, loveliest Scottish boy's name ever to distract from the awful MN!!

I love Hamish but I think a lot depends on where you live as to how it would be pronounced. I live in the south of England where it would be pronounced quite differently to up where I come from in Scotland. just something to think about.

Another vote for Lachlan - we have a Lochlan, such a lovely name and I love the nn Lochie. Nb we spelt it that way as we didn't want the 'lack-lann' pronounciation so went with one of the Irish versions we found.
