MN is after FIL (who is lovely, but whose name isn't, & who has no middle name!!).

First name needs to be Scottish as a family tradition. So I need the best, coolest, loveliest Scottish boy's name ever to distract from the awful MN!!

There's a great story behind Ossian. he was a warrior-poet, son of Fionn Mac Cumhail. Ossian means little deer, as his mum was turned into a deer by a rival sorceress.

The most well-known story is about him falling in love with the fairy Niamh, and going away with her to the land of the forever young (Tir Na N-og), which is a great story, you can find it online.

I also like that it's a pre-Christian name, and there are stories associating him with St Patrick. Ossian is the last of the people of the old ways, from the time of giants and legends. St Patrick tries to convert him to this new religion but Ossian's having none of it. If all his family and friends have been denied entry to Heaven, then why would he want to go there?!

We have a Struan and an Angus so wouldnt like to narrow it down to just one, but reading with interest as pg with ds3 and I'm guessing it'll be a boy, so will carry one watching with interest.

Is Lachlan irish by the way? It seems to mean warrior from the lochs, which would suggest it coud be Scottish too - guess the history of the two places is probably intertwined anyway.

My vote is for Hamish. It suits a boy and a man and isn't overly common.

Murray is good for a rugby player.

I love Lachlan too. I'm sure it's Scottish too. Apparently means from the land of the lochs and can have referred to Scandinavian vikings

Innes and Hamish are also excellent but Struan is the very best.

Struan Keith sounds acceptable too.

I like Brodie but I like it as a girls name. I have an Ainslie (DD) but quite like Ainsley for a boy.

My favourite is Lauchlan (pron Loch-lan as apposed to lach-lan, i know, i know before people moan) but you can't have it as i'll be using it for DS1 if we ever have a ds! :)
