I really like the name Skyla and the spelling, as i realise you can also spell it other ways, but not many people i have asked have liked then name and it's really made me confused as to whether i should just go ahead with what i like or choose a totally different name, which im finding very hard to choose as i really don't like most girl's names.
I called my other daughter Summer, which at the time 7 years ago was very unusual, but recently her name has become quite popular.
Im wondering if that might end up being the case with Skyla??
Is this name really that bad?

I actually quite like Skylar but I don't think I'd have the confidence to use it.

oldbirdy · 23/02/2017 19:40

I thought it was Skylar, like in Breaking Bad ...Prefer that spelling. I quite like it and I'm on old bird (y)

oldbirdy · 23/02/2017 19:42

Oh jeez, sorry. Oldest thread ever.

Katurah · 23/02/2017 19:45

I think it will be popular with fans of breaking bad. I heard of a few Skyler/la/lars being born a couple of years ago.

drigon · 23/02/2017 19:51

I like the name Skye OP...also prefer Skyler/ar to Skyla.

I remember Noah and Nellie too...I once dressed up as one of them for a Guides "fashion show" in about 1979...soooo long ago!

Pinkponiesrock · 23/02/2017 20:28

I quite like Skylar but not Skyla, I feel that Skyla stops too abruptly where Skylar has a nicer more elongated sound.

BlveGore · 28/07/2022 00:18

Bro my name is not terrible. U guys are weird to not think my name isn't pretty because I've been
told tons and tons of times, that it is.

BlveGore · 28/07/2022 00:23

Lol summer from Rick and mortie 😂 the name skyla is better tbh in my opinion and who cares what others think?? If u want that name for you're child then do it then the name "Summer" like the season then the next name will be October.🤨

Skyla is a nice, cool, normal sounding name to me. But I am in my mid thirties and I feel like a lot of people here are older and have quite conservative taste in names sometimes.

If you had asked about Elizabeth or Henry you would have gotten all positive comments, however I think they are such dull names I don't understand the appeal at all.

Go with Skyla, your child will not suffer or even stand out!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 28/07/2022 06:03

Are people deliberately digging up this thread for some kind of Zombie world record?!

mathanxiety · 28/07/2022 16:25

No, it looks like someone not completely compos mentis Googled their own name last night and decided to make a contribution to the raging debate...

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 28/07/2022 17:15

Not someone....Skyla!

Just think, it, might have been the OP's Skyla!

Clairewentoverthemountain · 28/07/2022 18:19

It's quite chavvy. Better when spelled Skylar

drpet49 · 28/07/2022 18:20

Sky/ Skye is pretty awful too

Clairewentoverthemountain · 28/07/2022 18:21

Oops. Sorry. Zombie.

DelorisVC · 28/07/2022 20:16

This popped up as threads I'm on. Which confused me as I commented on it over 10 years ago. I'm feeling old now.

SleepingAgent · 28/07/2022 23:52

Haha me too, just seen a very old posting name of mine from 2011 and feel like I've wasted far too many evenings on Mumsnet!

Zombie Thread 🧟‍♀️ 🧵

Sklya will be at Uni before this thread finally dies!

Abcdefgh1234 · 29/07/2022 00:03

Yes sorry. Ita like stripper name. I’m really sorry

Titsflyingsouth · 29/07/2022 17:38

Really really dislike...i hate the spelling. It looks like a typo to me.

Summer, on the other hand, is lovely.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/07/2022 00:01

More zombie threads. Hooray.

How do you pronounce Skyla anyway? Is it like Skyla/Σκύλα (Greek pronunciation Skee-la, not the Anglicised Scylla/Cilla) the mythical sea monster? Or like Skylark without the 'rk'?
