I really like the name Skyla and the spelling, as i realise you can also spell it other ways, but not many people i have asked have liked then name and it's really made me confused as to whether i should just go ahead with what i like or choose a totally different name, which im finding very hard to choose as i really don't like most girl's names.
I called my other daughter Summer, which at the time 7 years ago was very unusual, but recently her name has become quite popular.
Im wondering if that might end up being the case with Skyla??

How about Starla, not a unisex name.

How about Starla like in Smashing Pumpkins?"

For who?

OP's child is over five and a half now.

Thatwaslulu · 24/09/2016 22:34

My nieces are Summer and Starr. Skyla reminds me of Starr - a bit of a made up hippy name. It stands out though, so if you want something really unusual....

BlasianFashionista · 24/09/2016 22:37

I don't think it is...

If you like the name, use it!

Then I realise that this thread is over 5 years old Blush

Qwebec · 25/09/2016 02:18

I hope the OP will come and tell us what she called her daughter and ¸resolve 5 anda half years of controversy!

kmini · 25/09/2016 10:31

I think the responses are a little harsh. Its fine and matches nicely with Summer. Go for it.

KCBarbieQ · 18/02/2017 12:20

My granddaughter named my new pup for me. She named her Skyla. So this am, I googled it. Its a brand of IUD. Oops.

RatHammock · 18/02/2017 12:25

OPs DD will be about 6 by now!

AndNowItsSeven · 18/02/2017 12:30

No it's not a great name, sorry.

thebakerwithboobs · 18/02/2017 13:16

This thread started in 2011?? Skyla must have started school!

JoanofNark17 · 18/02/2017 13:22

This thread has been dug up FIVE times.

and its still an awful name

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/02/2017 14:23

Summer and Skyla go very well together.

JoanofNark17 · 18/02/2017 14:27
Hmm
Scribblegirl · 18/02/2017 14:31

Hey @twirlypoo , here it is! How's your year been? Grin

ArriettyClock1 · 18/02/2017 14:39

I have an american friend whose son is Skylar - it's more common over there.

It is bloody awful though.

Mclaren37 · 21/02/2017 00:05

When we lived in the US we knew two girl toddlers called Skyler. Both spelt that way. One in particular was really adorable so it brought me round to the name. Seems like it's viewed very differently in the U.K.
I have to say it reminds me of the annoying wife in Breakig BadConfused

HateSummer · 21/02/2017 00:06

Breaking Bad. Hated her.

joannegrady90 · 22/02/2017 20:02

What about a floral name?

Rose
Rosie
Daisy
Lily
Poppy
?
Or other nature themes:

River
Brooke
Savannah

All I can think of from the top of my head.

Skyla is chav to me but summer is lovely!

joannegrady90 · 22/02/2017 20:02

Just realised how old this thread is, never mind haha 😂😂

Serin · 22/02/2017 20:25

I quite like Skylark as an alternative, but then I like bird names!

mrssmith79 · 22/02/2017 20:41

This really is the thread that keeps on giving 😂😂😂

gameofchance · 22/02/2017 20:44

Yes. It's awful. Please dont

TheEdgeofSeventeen · 22/02/2017 20:54

Skylar - nice if I bit odd.
Skyla is honestly really rough sounding and chavvy

TheEdgeofSeventeen · 22/02/2017 20:55

And I'm 22

OnHold · 22/02/2017 20:58

People who use the word chavvy are obviously a bit thick and don't know how to RTFT.
