I really like the name Skyla and the spelling, as i realise you can also spell it other ways, but not many people i have asked have liked then name and it's really made me confused as to whether i should just go ahead with what i like or choose a totally different name, which im finding very hard to choose as i really don't like most girl's names.
I called my other daughter Summer, which at the time 7 years ago was very unusual, but recently her name has become quite popular.
Im wondering if that might end up being the case with Skyla??

I don't think you'll persuade many on MN, a good resource though if you want to consider alternatives, but it's in keeping with your other dd's name. And hey, it isn't Autumn R-a-i-n-e (oh yes)

onimolap · 09/02/2011 23:41

Sum04: if you really like it, and have done for so long, then use it regardless.

QuestionNumber · 10/02/2011 09:50

If you like it, then use it anyway :)

coldtits · 10/02/2011 09:51

yes, it is that bad.

izzybiz · 10/02/2011 09:55

Sounds like a dogs name....sorry.

rusmum · 10/02/2011 11:03

not keen sorry- but then again not keen on summer and you prob wouldnt like my names. we all have different tastes- if you like it go for it

Adair · 10/02/2011 11:10

Our son is Skyler.

We like it

magentastardust · 10/02/2011 18:15

I love the name Skylar but people seem so horrified by it that it puts me off using it-I think its very pretty name!

ThatllDoPig · 10/02/2011 18:57

If you love it then you should use it and not worry about what everyone else thinks. It is just one of those things that everyone is quick say which names are unpopular in their opinions, yet the really popular ones are 'unpopular' because of their very popularity IYKWIM! Follow your heart!

Rhubarbgarden · 10/02/2011 19:51

The Dutch name is a surname not a first name, and means 'the one who hides'. Not the best name meaning in the world, if that matters to you.

nelly83 · 11/02/2011 20:46

I love it! If u really like it you should go for it. Skye is lovely too and will prob become the nn anyway. Maybe give her a more mainstream middle name in case she dislikes it?

mathanxiety · 11/02/2011 20:53

It is boaktastic.

Even Skye is nicer, because of the island.

galletti · 11/02/2011 20:58

I prefer it to Skye or Sky actually.

In fact misread the title as Sky and thought 'satellite TV channel'.

CPtart · 11/02/2011 21:06

Skyla? Skoda more like. Bloomin awful.

BelligerentGhoul · 11/02/2011 21:32

Yes - horrible. Sorry.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 11/02/2011 22:54

I like Skyla, although I do feel like it's missing a letter.

I know a Skylar (or Skyler, not sure of the spelling) and I think it's pretty.

Please please please don't pick a common name just because a bunch of strange people on the Internet said it was terrible. Go with you heart :)

Ps if you were born in 1984 there is a chance this name could become popular in 10 years. My teenage siblings would love a name like that. In my generation (late 70s) it's not likely though.

misfitmum · 12/02/2011 14:54

I think its lovely, I had Skylar on my list until DH vetoed it. Skyla goes with Summer and isn't that different to Kyla which is lovely as well. The problem with asking others opinion on these threads for less-than-usual names means that the majority won't like them which is why they are less-than-usual. If you were to ask should I name my child 'Sophie' the majority would say yes, love it, while only a few would say no - proven by how high up the popularity list it is. Nothing wrong with being different :)

serendipity16 · 12/02/2011 17:20

I prefer Skye to Skyla but you've said you really like it so use it.
Summer & Skyla do sound nice together though.
Loads of people haven't liked our name choices for our kids but as long as we love the names thats all that matters to us.

My daughter is called Summer & she's 7yrs old.... her name was Skye for a week until we changed our minds.

Whats your sons name?

onthemoveyetagain · 12/02/2011 19:11

Love it. Have my own little Skyler - there is a huge thread on it if you type in Beauden. Go for it - lovely name.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 12/02/2011 19:17

sorry but Skyla sounds to me like the type of dodgy name a european car company would choose for their latest hot hatch ... "test drive the new Skyla, best car in its class" etc

Skye or Sky is pretty though.

There is a Skyler in my dd's class. He is a boy. There's a Summer too.
