Is the name Skyla really that bad??

I really like the name Skyla and the spelling, as i realise you can also spell it other ways, but not many people i have asked have liked then name and it's really made me confused as to whether i should just go ahead with what i like or choose a totally different name, which im finding very hard to choose as i really don't like most girl's names.
I called my other daughter Summer, which at the time 7 years ago was very unusual, but recently her name has become quite popular.
Im wondering if that might end up being the case with Skyla??
Is this name really that bad?

I like it too.

Take no notice of other people, you're the one going to be using it on a daily basis. I think it's lovely, unusual but not too 'off the wall' Smile

Kikaninchen · 01/07/2014 07:46

To me, it is a boy's name (Skyler).

But, lots of names are unisex, and it does sound like a girls name too.

TanteRose · 01/07/2014 07:49

little Skyla will be about 3 years old now Grin

Purple, did you trawl baby names until you found yours??

FoxyHarlow123 · 01/07/2014 07:50

love it, mainly cos of minnie drivers character in good will hunting!

BikeRunSki · 01/07/2014 07:54

I like it. I'm 43 and I remember Noah and Nelly and I still like it.

ataposaurus · 01/07/2014 07:59

I don't really like Skyla, tbh it sounds a bit trashy and made up. Also, I like names to have a meaning, and I'm not aware it does.

Amber on the other hand is a zillion times nicer, goes with Summer and is not too popular - why not go with that?

Skye is OK, although think sounds a bit cheesy with Summer.

eurochick · 01/07/2014 08:02

I like it but wouldn't use it myself.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 01/07/2014 08:05

Is lovely, I think it's getting more popular now because of breaking bad.

Sorry if anyone else has mentioned that I haven't rtft.

TanteRose · 01/07/2014 08:06

Arya, I was going to mentioned BB, but this thread is from 2011, and predates Skylar White Grin

AryaOfHouseSnark · 01/07/2014 08:06

Just read rtft, purple it's lovely I wish I had a name like yours in rl, mine is boring.

ViviPru · 01/07/2014 08:07

I don't think that you ought to choose a less common name, rather find one you feel less uncertain of then you won't care so much what people think. And once you have, don't ask anyone IRL for their opinion on it!!

AryaOfHouseSnark · 01/07/2014 08:08

Ooooooh a zombie thread, bollox. although brba came out before 2011 I think.

TanteRose · 01/07/2014 08:09

ooh you're right! 2008! but no one mentioned on the thread

FWIW I like the name!

ViviPru · 01/07/2014 08:10

Gah I've been zombie thread doomed Sad

TanteRose · 01/07/2014 08:10

sorry, too many exclamation marks...Blush

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 01/07/2014 08:11

As a massive Breaking Bad fan, I personally wouldn't want to name my DC after the main characters - I think it is Skyler in that case, not Skyla. But I do think Skyla is a pretty name.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 01/07/2014 08:12

Arghhhh, who resurrects these threads????

atticusclaw · 01/07/2014 08:13

Skyler in Heroes was a psychotic mass murderer

atticusclaw · 01/07/2014 08:13

Oh bugger zombie thread!

AryaOfHouseSnark · 01/07/2014 08:15

It was purple, cakes, she was pissed off because people didn't like her name. Which is lovely btw if you're still reading.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 01/07/2014 08:18

But no, I couldn't use it because of Skylar in breaking bad, a friend of mine asked me my opinions on Shae for her dd they other day, it is lovely but I can't get pat the got character.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 01/07/2014 08:50

I think it's a lovely name and goes really well with Summer Smile

Booboostoo · 01/07/2014 09:17

For what it's worth Skyla means bitch in Greek, used both to refer to the female of the canine species and as a swear word against women (with the same connotations as bitch).... Just in case anyone is still considering it!

TanteRose · 01/07/2014 09:19

oh dear...

weatherall · 01/07/2014 09:25

Skyler is a great name.

Skyla makes it look like the parents can't spell and it screams 'young mum'.

Skye (after the Scottish Island) is good too, as is Amber.
