I know people here generally don't like the term "chav" being used but this is not meant to cause offence and is for a bit of research for a friend who is writing a short fiction piece for a competition and is looking for names to base a couple of her characters on.

She's not really looking at the "Sharon" and "Tracy" type names but more the sort of names that are in vogue at the moment.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I know a woman with three kids, named Tia, Maria, and Jayden.

I'm not lying.

zozzle · 23/01/2011 22:38

Don't worry Plonker, unless your daughters are named Cordelia, Constance and Eustacia most names are considered chavvy on here!!

I'm not a fan of try hard, public school, middle class names so you can guess what a small minority of snobs on here thought of my daughters name!

Not offended though - it all goes with the territory I guess and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Jackson

MelinaM · 23/01/2011 22:45

Jasmine, Isla, Izzy, Evie, Mae/Mai, Lola, Sienna, Paige, Ellie/Elly, Georgia, Olivia, Liana, Lexie, Lily, Maddie etc... are all names that I've come across recently that belong to the offspring of the teen mum/chav sector. Some of them I don't consider 'chav' at all! Hmm

MelinaM · 23/01/2011 22:54

As for the boys, well, that's an absolute minefield! Jayden, Kayden/Cayden, Kanye, Kai, Taylor, Brayden, Caleb, Jay, Liam, Josh, Joel, Brogan, Harvey, Mitchell, Ashley, Chayce, Jordan, Mason, Dillon, Lee etc...etc.....

I almost forgot ...Chantelle, Courtney, Keira and JodieGrin

onimolap · 24/01/2011 07:14

Jackson? Or Jaxon?

swanandduck · 24/01/2011 09:28

I'm Irish living in London and notice that a lot of Irish names that are not considered the least bit chavvy at home eg Liam and Kevin often are over here. Is it the Irish connection that puts people off or the fact that people are adopting a culture that's not their's???

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2011 18:17

It's just here in the States darlene. Lots of little Tiana's, etc, running around with siblings named Braylee and Haidyn. Ew.

PigTail · 24/01/2011 20:55

Keelan rather than Caoilfhinn...yes indeed. The only Keelan I know has an Irish mother, but thank heavens she went for Keelan, as they live in England and I would have no idea how to pronounce Caoilfhinn, and I bet most other English people don't either!

pinkylulu · 24/01/2011 22:15

Chantelle, McKenzie and Shannon are the chaviest names ever. I am shocked that people are saying that Saskia is a chav name though......

Oh my. Thanks to this thread I have just discovered my daughter's name is "chavvy" Grin I like it. It's actually Welsh in origin and means beauitful and blessed.

rupaul · 24/01/2011 23:38

Clunge is a fantastical word. I might name my next dd that.

twirlymum · 24/01/2011 23:48

rupaul if you had triplets, they could be Clunge, Minge and Flange Grin

Clunge · 24/01/2011 23:50

And you can change your name by deed poll to Fanjita. The fanny family. Happy times.

MelinaM · 25/01/2011 00:01

Barbielovesken lockets ..must been a chav feeling insulted!!! Grin

pongonperdy · 27/01/2011 14:16

Double barreled first names.

The obvious ones like chardoney etc.

Heard a few beyonces recently which sounded a bit odd.

shouldnotbehere · 27/01/2011 15:27

Hehe. My name is Charlene, and I'm 28. My DH is five years older than me and called Allen. We both like our chavvy names.

I know a Chantal, and she isnt the least bit chavvy. She is actually public school educated, with a v good job, and in her mid 30s.

Personally, it is poncey names like Anuciata, Candida, Gideon, Gustavus, Orlando et al. that I dislike.

MelinaM · 27/01/2011 15:45

Why is Charlene 'chavy'?! ...I wouldn't consider Allen 'chavvy' either! Chantal is french is it not? I really like that name, and again don;t find it chavvy! I think the 'other' spelling of Chantelle is awful but that's just me! x

Quenelle · 27/01/2011 16:01

Neve is different to Niamh and Naomh. It's an Italian name and it means snow.

shouldnotbehere · 27/01/2011 17:36

Melina, I saw my name on this thread, although with different spelling, described as chavvy. I saw DH's name on a previous thread listing chavvy names once. On same thread, I saw my middle class cousin's name (Lauren), described as chavvy. It is all subjective.

I agree Chantal spelling is nicer than Chantelle.

Katy86 · 28/01/2011 11:42

i thought my DCs had escaped the chavvy names but DD made it on the last page. oh well at least DS not on here. :)

ilovesprouts · 28/01/2011 20:30

Megglevache · 28/01/2011 20:34
