Whgat would you say are the pop 10 current "chav" girls names?

I know people here generally don't like the term "chav" being used but this is not meant to cause offence and is for a bit of research for a friend who is writing a short fiction piece for a competition and is looking for names to base a couple of her characters on.

She's not really looking at the "Sharon" and "Tracy" type names but more the sort of names that are in vogue at the moment.

Any ideas gratefully received.

In my DS's FS1 class there is a girl called Keelan. Now that is bad enough for a boy, but a girl? The mind boggles.

Mittler · 22/01/2011 20:27

Amelie
Saskia
Leah
Tia
Mia
Paige
Ella
Taylor

All those would suit your friend's fictional character.

Woof ! .Grin.
I actualy wanted to call ds axel. I now know thats chavy. Unfortunatly his replacement name is just as bad.
There are 3 kids in his class with it 2 boys 1 girl. Ds got the girls spelling

nobiggy · 22/01/2011 20:37

DD1 could have been Tegan. She had a lucky escape then?

I called her Asbo in the end.

suwoo · 22/01/2011 20:40

I know of a recently born male Axel. When in France recently I met a little girl with the same name, but not sure if it is spelled in a more feminine way? Axelle perhaps? That was how it was pronounced, with the emphasis on the 'elle'.

onimolap I've only just read the thread you posted. Now my judgey pants are beginning to cut off my circulation and I'm so going to have to sit on my hands for a bit Grin

Edmundo · 22/01/2011 20:51

Saskia?? My cousin's daughter's name. Both parents are doctors.

Mittler · 22/01/2011 21:40

Yes, Saski is also popular among doctors (I know of a few doctor-family Saskias myself). But it's one of those names that has also been appropriated by the non-doctor class (a bit like Joshua).

FWIW, my children's names are all poncetastic if MN is to be believed (fortunately, I don't believe MN).

what makes a name poncetastic ???

thats much more intresting than chavtastic imo.

speaking as a chav , of course.

Grin
Edmundo · 22/01/2011 21:55

Surely that means that Saskia and Joshua are classless then? I know chavs that have used George and Olivia, does that make those names chav too?

Mittler · 22/01/2011 22:24

Sorry, Edmundo, but I think that makes them chavtastic. Though George and Olivia somehow rise above it. Grin

I am chortling at the idea of my children's names entering the realm of chavdom. If that ever happens, I will change their names by deed poll. None of their names is even in the top 1,000 names, though, so I can't see it happening for a while yet.

onimolap · 22/01/2011 22:42

I think quite a lot of the names on this thread will also never be in the too 1000.

here, you rood shitbags. I know a Bailey and he nor his parents are 'chav'.

And I happen to have a stupidly posh name myself thank you very much.

Anyway, yes, Woof.

Edmundo · 22/01/2011 23:15

Saskia's fairly unusual, so maybe your children's names are under the same umbrella Mittler?

You only chose your children's names because they were unusual and considered poncy? How daft.

Mittler · 22/01/2011 23:22

Erm, I don't think I said I chose them because they were poncey, did I? Confused Only on MN could one's words be taken so very out of context.

I chose them because they were my absolute, all-time favourite names, and have been since forever. It so happens they are not popular (and, indeed, have been described as poncey on MN on the few occasions that they have come up on name threads). But it is true that even if, say, Amelia had been my all-time favourite name, I would not have used it because it is just too popular (in fact, Amelia would be in my top 20 girls' names - but I would be put off using it because there would be at least one other Amelia in my daughter's class).

It was hyperbole, dear frog. But I do make sure my children's names don't appear in any of my books. I don't want to contribute to their future possible popularity. Grin

PS I am oop north.

eviscerateyourmemory · 22/01/2011 23:33

Shocked by some of the names suggested as 'chav' Hmm
Saskia - not chavy at all IMO- unusual maybe, but not chavvy.
Tegan - Welsh/Cornish name, not made up or American
Regan - Nothing to do with ex-presidents.
