No interest in my handmade crayon tote bags on Marketplace

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping for a bit of advice from fellow parents. 😊
I've recently started making handmade Disney-themed children's crayon tote bags and have listed them on Facebook Marketplace, but unfortunately I haven't had any enquiries yet.
I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from a parent's point of view. Is there anything that would make you more likely to buy one? Is it the photos, the description, the price, or is it just not something you'd look for on Marketplace?
I genuinely believe the quality and price are good, but I'd love to know what I could improve. I've shared them on a few Strood Facebook groups too, but still haven't had any messages or comments. Similar products seem to sell well in shops like Argos, so I'm wondering what I'm missing.
Any constructive advice would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you, Hels ❤️

You’d put the pens inside wouldn’t you? I don’t think any parent would want a bag with the pencils on the outside,

BlackRowan · 20/07/2026 21:38

No one will be buying this on the marketplace. It’s for second hand stuff. Try Etsy or Instagram or TikTok

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/07/2026 21:39

I wouldn’t see the use for such an item to be honest.

MyDarlingRose · 20/07/2026 21:43

All of the pens would fall out…. What’s the point of it? Nobody needs to instantly access crayons on the go.

Her post was written to garner thoughts and opinions and she was honest too. Your reply is incredibly harsh and insensitive.

That's unkind and uncalled for. She was asking for honest advice about alternatives and places to sell, not insults.

I think it's a good idea, just needs a bit of refinement. 😎

sanityisamyth · 20/07/2026 22:15

I don’t like Disney so would never buy it but I can’t see the pens/pencils staying in their holder big for long? Looks very impractical. Also as others roosters have said, it’s too big for the child.

Is that your own child? Are you happy for her to be on a world wide website with anyone accessing the photo to do what they want with it with AI?

alimak9 · 20/07/2026 22:23

Hi OP, if I would consider buying it I wouldn’t like that the straps are sewn out rather than in. Also the size is too big for a tote bag and the most significant thing is the pencil holder. I would lose them all in a minute walking, don’t find it practical. But keep going 💪🏼 I’m sure eventually you will find the right design.

mrlistersgelfbride · 20/07/2026 22:37

When my DD was younger I’m sure she wanted something like this from the works or similar and I wouldn’t buy it as it looks like the pens would easily fall out.
If you’re in a hurry and grab things as you’re heading out the door with your child (me 🤣) this isn’t going to work well as it’s faff and the concept is more trouble than it’s worth.
Bag looks too big and there’s a risk of the child falling over it.
I’m afraid to say it doesn’t look good enough to warrant the £20 price tag.
I might pay £5, and I would want look for them on Vinted or Etsy.

FairyBatman · 20/07/2026 22:46

I can see where the idea is going, but I think it needs refining.

If you want an A4 tote I would make it landscape so it’s easier for a child to carry, and I would make a matching zipped pencil case that attaches.

I created a mock up of how I personally would refine the idea, I work in product design btw (although usually IT)

I only sew as a hobby (I say hobby, only when I feel like getting annoyed at fabric). Either way, the handles should be sewing into the lining of the bag, these have just been sewn into the outside of the bag. Also, if you want a place to put pens, it needs to have a zip… i don’t know any kids of this sort of age that don’t constantly run, therefore the pens will just fall out. Also, as someone else said, you won’t have the rights to sell this print and Disney do sue people for this sort of thing. You are allowed to use Disney prints for home stuff only, selling it infringes on the trademark

It’s a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist. Sorry.

To be fair thats the entire basis of the beauty/asthetics industry.

Theres not need of that. Really harsh.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/07/2026 14:51

Honestly, if I ever needed to use a bag like that, I’d lose the pens within minutes.

That, sorry.

If my grandkids had bags like that, I'd be forever finding pens rolling around in my car or under the sofa.

WelshMusicMum · Yesterday 01:41

Sadly, you are not entitled to make Disney themed products as it goes against the laws of copyright. What you are doing is actually illegal so you might want to consider changing your design. They are very keen on prosecuting anyone replicating their unique brand so I would have a re-think.

Why was this thread taken down so that Mumsnet can “have a look at it”?

That’s a much nicer bag, more professionally made and worth £20.

Iffy advertising?
I am surprised it's back as the OP only made the first post and didn't come back.....🤷

OctopusHands · Yesterday 07:02

I would not choose Disney if i was buying a hand made bag because Disney stuff is widely available everywhere. There are so many lovely fabrics.

OP should have shared a photo of that child on Mumsnet without hiding the face IMO. Good enough reason to take it down.

This style is really great actually.

Naurrr · Yesterday 08:46

I can't believe this thread is back, despite the child's image being used, and the OPs Facebook account, location, name all being easily seen as previous posters have mentioned.
