No interest in my handmade crayon tote bags on Marketplace

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping for a bit of advice from fellow parents. 😊
I've recently started making handmade Disney-themed children's crayon tote bags and have listed them on Facebook Marketplace, but unfortunately I haven't had any enquiries yet.
I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from a parent's point of view. Is there anything that would make you more likely to buy one? Is it the photos, the description, the price, or is it just not something you'd look for on Marketplace?
I genuinely believe the quality and price are good, but I'd love to know what I could improve. I've shared them on a few Strood Facebook groups too, but still haven't had any messages or comments. Similar products seem to sell well in shops like Argos, so I'm wondering what I'm missing.
Any constructive advice would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you, Hels ❤️

I’m confused by the product? Why are the pencils on the outside of the bag? Am I missing something!

ShetlandishMum · 20/07/2026 14:46

Tbh a pencilcase is much easier. I wouldn't see a need for this item.

Sidebeforeself · 20/07/2026 14:47

Well I cant see the price or the product description ? But going on the photo it does look quite homemade so it depends on how the price compares to those on Amazon.

MyOliveStork · 20/07/2026 14:48

How much do you sell them for?

Sidebeforeself · 20/07/2026 14:48

Also, that bag is far too big for the child modelling it so it doesnt look very practical. Sorry!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/07/2026 14:48

Anywhere you'd need easy access to pens, you wouldn't have a bag. anywhere with a bag, they are more active so the pens fall out.

Wouldn't work for me. And Disney? I assume you don't have permission to sell Disney so if you do get successful, they will sue you!

Busybookworm · 20/07/2026 14:49

Be careful with Disney fabrics - you may be infringing copyright.

OhLaDiDaDiDa · 20/07/2026 14:49

It looks a bit big for a child to carry, and as an adult I probably wouldn’t choose to carry it.

Its the kind of thing I might keep in the car for when we go to pubs or restaurants and I want to keep the kids busy with colouring.

how much is it?

LottieMary · 20/07/2026 14:50

oencil case is better as they won’t fall out?!
I wouldn’t buy this on marketplace as that’s more a secondhand type place. If I wanted this I’d look Etsy or folksy but it (from the photo) looks not very well sewn; the handles on the outside don’t look very robust for a kids bag and I think it’s a bit big for lots of kids. When you said crayon tote I thought you meant more a5, shorter strap and zip

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/07/2026 14:50

Also, DD has sewn things that look really professional. That looks very simple. A fairly new home sewer could make that.

Oliwiaa · 20/07/2026 14:51

It's not the kind of thing I'd buy from Facebook Marketplace, I'd be more likely to look for second hand stuff on there.

Maybe Etsy would be more appropriate?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/07/2026 14:51

Honestly, if I ever needed to use a bag like that, I’d lose the pens within minutes.

tinygingermum · 20/07/2026 14:52

marketplace probably isn’t the place to sell them really. You also can’t use Disney fabric, they can and do sue people.

BrickProblems · 20/07/2026 14:52

I just can’t think what it’s for? Why is it so big but the pens are on the outside where they will instantly fall out?

hugasaurus · 20/07/2026 14:53

I’m sorry, OP, but if I’m being honest, I can’t think of any reason someone would want one? My children don’t routinely carry crayons and pens around with them day to day and if they do, say we are going on a trip or something, they are in a proper sealed backpack or bag so they don’t fall out. It also looks far too big for a child to easily carry around.

Could you try a book bag or something?

DeedlessIndeed · 20/07/2026 14:53

My immediate fear is that the crayons will fall out.

Also, as much as I enjoy watching the films with my kids, I am not that keen on disney character merchandise. A nice print would be more appealing.

Divebar2021 · 20/07/2026 14:55

For anything handmade I would go Etsy. In my opinion FM marketplace is for furniture and garden bits and is generally not somewhere to spend much time browsing. It’s full of incredibly annoying sponsored posts and adds.

user1476613140 · 20/07/2026 14:55

All the pens and crayons would be all on the floor by now. Wouldn't last five minutes in my house.

Looks a lovely material though.

TheKindnessProject · 20/07/2026 14:55

I'd worry about a younger child falling over and impaling themselves on the bag. And it doesn't look very accessible if they sat down. Truthfully, it's the product design for me.

Best of luck though in setting something up. I'm always admiring of people of have ideas and act on them. I'm sure Apple and Microsoft had millions of bad earlier design before they minted it in.

Naurrr · 20/07/2026 14:57

You haven't posted the price?
From what I can make out from the image it's nice enough, very basic, as a PP wrote, a total beginner to sewing could make it very quickly.
I don't understand why the pens are on the outside of the bag, or why it would be better than a pencil case, for anyone needing to carry pens about.

(You might want to ask MN to edit the picture so your child's image isn't included)

Ponderingwindow · 20/07/2026 14:57

I also don’t like the contrast color choice. It just isn’t quite right either the base fabric.

Mainly though, when I used a product like this with my child, I wanted something I could throw in my bag. We did use one. It had room for some crayons and a pad of paper. Or rolled up self contained. We never went to one of her many doctor’s appointments without it.

Itshotinherebutainttakingoffmyclothes · 20/07/2026 14:57

Those pencils will just fall out. I would just pop everything into a back pack. I can’t see when/where this would be used.

KrazyKatty · 20/07/2026 14:58

The pen holder pocket isn’t deep enough for the pens to hold them securely, it needs to be at least another couple of inches deeper.

Also I’d sew that pocket onto the inside of the bag so that if they fall out you won’t lose them.

QuaintBeaker · 20/07/2026 15:00

So I've just had a quick Google and this is what I'd suggest:

  1. Smaller crayons. The long pens look like they will fall out.
  1. Pictures of it being used... for example a picture with a colouring book or paper sticking out, and the crayons in the pocket. A picture of it at a table to show how you could use it when eating out or something, to keep kids busy.
  1. More neutral fabric. People these days are big on naturals and calming colours rather than bright and cheerful.
  1. Maybe offer a big a4 size and a smaller a5 size for little ones?
  1. Plainer pictures of just the object, or use your child and get AI to just remove the background because it's just too busy and looks less professional.
  1. Advertise on local Facebook groups as well as marketplace.
Glowingup · 20/07/2026 15:01

Why have you chosen FB marketplace to sell? I wouldn’t buy new stuff on there. Also I agree with others that you need to be careful with possible copyright.
i also agree with others that there’s no obvious need for a bag where you carry crayons on the outside of it so that would also be a reason I’d not buy it. But fair enough if other similar items sell at other stores.
