@givemebooks @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack I am sorry about your holidays. How disappointing for you.

I have been given lots of stretching exercises for knitters elbow. If anyone is interested, I'll post them. My arm still bothers me but the pain is at bay and I can knit a bit. Hope you're ok @CrochetBug

I'm annoyed this morning. We recently moved to our house. It needs various stuff done but we don't want to take on credit so we're doing it slowly. The one thing we did splash out on was a new Worcester Bosch boiler. It's now broken down at less than a year. We have no hot water and they say they can't send anyone for a week. Angry.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 19/08/2021 10:02

Oh no @MerylSqueak what a nightmare! They have such a good reputation too!

Don't let that put you off @InTheNightWeWillWish, I suspect that campsite comes high up on Google for camping activity sites in Northern Ireland. Avoid the Share center anyway Wink We might have had bad luck with the groups of people there but I'm not risking it again. We stayed at a lovely site the night before without issues!

lazylinguist · 19/08/2021 18:54

How infuriating, @MerylSqueak! What shoddy service.

I'm afraid I'm joining the bad holiday corner of the thread... we are home from camping 2 days early. Our somewhat elderly (but much loved) tent proved unequal to the conditions and started to fill with water! Just had a rainy, slow 7 hour drive home. Oof.

Was in home bargains today and spotted some knitting looms which obviously I had to buy! Excited to try them out but no idea what I'm doing Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 19/08/2021 21:38

Oh no lazy! Sorry the bad luck got to you too!

Oh, interesting theNameIs! Have you given them a go yet?

lucysmam · 19/08/2021 21:46

Crikey, not much camping luck going on here!

Whose was the mosaic blanket on the previous page? That looks like an interesting challenge!

I'm 20 rows into the boat necked jumper I wanted to make, to replace my knackered one, and am very very bored of it already. So bored, I'm considering frogging in favour of something else but not sure what.

I also don't like the 4mm hook I'm using. It's a knit-pro, the same as the 4.5 and 6mm ones I prefer, but doesn't feel right 🤷‍♀️

In other news...I've pinched some knitting needles from my friend. No idea where I'll start but I'm sure I'll find something.

tizwozliz · 19/08/2021 22:10

We're taking puppy for her first camping experience this weekend, hope we have better luck.

Myshitisreal · 20/08/2021 02:53

I've lost all my text 😭

Sophs29 what jumper are you getting bored of?

Lucysmam the mosaic monstrosity was mine 🤭

Excited to see what's done with the loom?

Happy Friday vibes. Hope everyone's in good spirits

I'm in good spirits, @Myshitisreal - largely because I'm in my nice, dry house instead of a wet tent Grin.

@tizwozliz - I hope you have more luck camping than the rest of us! I'm sure the uppy will love it though. Our dog really likes camping!

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 07:59

@Myshitisreal it was @lucysmam that's getting bored of the jumper! Although I have restarted my DS's jacket I was making - and got bored of because I knew I was going to run out of yarn! I've just ordered some more but because I've left it so long it's not the same dye lot so hopefully it won't be too different 😬

I also ordered some pretty yarn to make some more socks! I made another pair (also for my mum) and she's asked for more for her birthday (Oct) and Christmas, I'm making my mums neighbour some and want to make my sister a pair so I'm going to be busy 😂 but am now addicted to making socks 😇😂

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 08:11

@Myshitisreal yep, it's me who's bored of the jumper. I've not done much so will likely frog later on.

I liked the mosaic blanket! Was it difficult?

Sending good camping vibes @tizwozliz! I'm sure the puppy will have a blast!

@sophs29 did you say previously that you'd used bog standard acrylic for a pair of socks?

Maybe they'd be challenging enough to keep my interest 🤔 I'm struggling to settle to anything properly lately - stuff that actually needs doing, as well as crafting.

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 08:22

Yes @lucysmam That pink pair I attached in my last post was just acrylic DK, I figured as my mums not very mobile they will be okay as she won't really be walking on them and putting pressure on the yarn iyswim! I think when I make them for myself and my sister I might make them with a yarn that has some nylon in as suggested by @lazylinguist I think? ☺️

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 08:28

Maybe I'll try making myself some bed socks with some of the rainbow acrylic I have then!

I'm going to try and finish my friend's second glove, to the point of sewing up, today. Once I tick some things off my list though otherwise I won't move from here 🙄

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 08:35

Oh @lucysmam and I did use a pattern specifically for DK yarn, I got it on Etsy! 'Duvet days sock pattern' I believe it's called! I think most on Pinterest are for 4 ply so if you used DK it would come up significantly bigger!

I often find if I have a lot of things I have to do, I lack enthusiasm! I think you should definitely try some socks, they crochet so quickly!

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 08:37

Thank you, I'll have a browse shortly :)

Myshitisreal · 20/08/2021 08:37

Sorry I'm terrible for names 😱, 😩

Those socks are adorable. I'd love you to share a pattern.

Does the addition of nylon make them more durable? I think linguist makes really fancy socks from a book? They seem so complicated.

Mosaic took a while to learn but once you have the principles in your mind, it's there for life. There's actually logic there so it makes sense to me.

It's really very satisfying to do. I think the patterns are easier than pictures like skulls etc . Tinna thotudottir has an amazing YouTube video set which is where I learnt. Massive 4 videos, you make a swatch along with her. I started with a greek key cushion set from a video by fibro fix studios. Get videos are amazing, and there's a Scottish lady, daisy something.

Ohhh I bought zips to make these think they would make amazing gifts and the mosaic pattern is one of the easiest, just a treble every 4/5 stitches. Tina also has free granny squares in YouTube," hope" and "terrazzo" . She's incredibly likeable to listen to on the videos.

If you need something to deep dive, it's a good one.

@crochetbug did you ever return to tunisian?

cookiemonster5 · 20/08/2021 08:51

Hi everyone! Today I'll finish the minion and then I just need to see him up.

I ordered wool last night to make a granny square blanket which should be here beginning of the week.

Update on the dr situation. They have decided I don't need to be seen urgently. In fact they say I don't need to be seen at all. Im in shock. I don't know what to think or feel. This last week has been hell for me and my family. How on earth can I go from being told the most likely cause of my symptoms is a tumor and need seen urgently to bring told im fine and nothing is wrong? Im waiting for a call from my own gp if the receptionist sees him to talk to him. I felt like telling her to get up off her arse and go find him because this is important.

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 09:01

@Myshitisreal it's called 'Duvet days sock pattern' by SewHappyCreative on Etsy 🙄

And yes, I think the nylon helps them be more durable ☺️ I've also just taken lazys advice from her posh book 😂

Oh wow those little purses are lovely! It does look very technical!

Oh @cookiemonster5 id be fuming! I can't imagine how worried/stressed you've been waiting to hear! But I'm happy that they don't think it's anything sinister, but I (try to) understand how you must be feeling!

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 09:02

I didn't mean the eye rolling face 😂 sorry!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/08/2021 09:16

sophs loving the socks. I was going to ask for the pattern but I see a couple of people have beaten me to it Grin must go save it on Etsy before I forget and then lose the pattern.

lazy sorry camping was a washout but at least you don’t have to worry about your shawl getting soggy now!

cookie sorry you’ve had such a stressful week. Hopefully it’s good news but obviously you’ll be worried until you can speak to someone properly.

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 09:22

@InTheNightWeWillWish I do like the pattern, there's a few parts I was sort of winging it 😂 but they ended up looking alright I think! My DP calls them the drumstick socks because they look like drumstick lollies 😂

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 09:23

@Myshitisreal the nylon would help make stress points more durable - so balls of toes & heels wouldn't wear through so quickly.

I've been browsing t'interweb & found some, but not many, free patterns. These are pretty, but perhaps a tad ambitious for a first attempt!

Thanks for the mosaic tutorial/video suggestions. I might give some of them a whirl too. Something will stick eventually.

@cookiemonster5 how very frustrating! I'm not sure I'd be happy with how it's been handled at all. Hopefully your own gp gets back to you quickly.

Ok, I'm moving right now...kettle's going on & I'm getting my list out!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/08/2021 09:38

Thanks sophs I’ve found it on Etsy and added it to my favourites but then I fell down the Etsy rabbit hole… I found a lovely shop that makes handmade crochet hooks Blush I’m not going to link it because the starting price for a single crochet hook is £30 Shock going up to £70+ for some

I am debating how reasonable it is to ask for one crochet hook for my Christmas present! I suppose DH would always have an option for presents as I’d need to complete the full set! It’s definitely unreasonable to just have one nice crochet hook Grin If I do decide to build up a collection, I might have to add them to the house insurance though Hmm

MerylSqueak · 20/08/2021 09:39

@cookiemonster5 I am sorry. It sounds like such a stressful situation. I hope you got your phone call. It's so difficult to be left in limbo with medical things.

@lazylinguist I'm sorry about your holiday. Well done for keeping cheerful about it.

@sophs29 lovely socks! Very clever

@lucysmam knitting needles, eh? What are you thinking of making? I had this book when I started which has a fair few easy and quick patterns for fairly interesting things. There are a couple of mistakes though, like a bag with no instructions from the handle but I worked it out so you definitely would be able to.

What's a knitting loom when it's at home and what can you do with it? Sorry I can't remember who found one Blush

@Myshitisreal I shall have to Google mosaics! Sounds intriguing

Wonder where @NiceCardigan is. I saw her name come up when I did an @.

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 09:53

Omg @InTheNightWeWillWish are they made out of gold? Haha!
I just quickly typed in handmade crochet hooks on there to have a looksy and came across a penis shaped hook 😭😭😂 that's made my day hahahaha!

I want to make myself some nice handles out of Fimo clay one day as I have lots of that and have seen some lovely inspiration on Pinterest/Etsy!

@lucysmam my mum would love those socks!! When I gave her the last ones she asked if I could sew on some ribbons and buttons and other pretty things 😂
