Love the new thread title.
I'm trying to be tidier so won't throw yarn around to "decorate" yet Grin

lucysmam · 12/08/2021 18:54

Thanks for the new thread lazy :)

@sophs29 yep! Soak, chuck (not too hard!), rinse, repeat. We can't fill normal ones on our taps, so thought we'd try these.

sophs29 · 12/08/2021 18:58

I also love the title @lazylinguist ☺️

Haha @lucysmam bet they'll be loads of fun! Think we're supposed to have some hotter weather coming too! (Where I am anyway)!

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 19:01

Perhaps we could tidily festoon some yarn around rather than chucking it, @CrochetBug? I definitely feel that the place just wouldn't look the same without your decorative touch! I'm also adding a virtual table in the corner, replete with tea and cakes. Help yourselves everybody Grin.

CrochetBug · 12/08/2021 19:12

That's a good idea. I'll hang some strands around in a tasteful way. Although my stash is depleted somewhat. I couldn't fix all my DK in the box and now it's only half full Shock. It's a bit odd because I don't think I've actually finished more than a couple of items Hmm

A virtual table of cakes means they must be calorie free. Perfect Grin

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 19:18

Yes, definitely calorie-free. I particularly recommend the chocolate chip banana loaf cake.

Lovely new thread I like the I idea of festooning.

I’m madly crocheting my shawl so I that it’s ready at the end of the month for the picnic concert we are going to. I’ll probably wear it whatever size it is!

lucysmam · 12/08/2021 19:55

Thanks for the tea lazy, my chief brew maker hasn't reappeared from upstairs yet 🙄

I'm just sitting down to make another water balloon & then finish the first row of a jumper for me. The yarn suggested is discontinued but several of the subs on Yarnsub are dk weight so I'm going with Deramores dk in green tea.

From my swatch; the gauge matches, but I think it'll be slightly more 'holey' than it looks on the pics so I may need a vest top underneath - we'll see in a couple of weeks!

MerylSqueak · 12/08/2021 19:59

Thank you for the new thread @lazylinguist. Great title. When I'm back from my holiday in London I'll bring stupidly expensive tea from Fortnum and Mason's. How about that?

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 20:03

I've failed to madly knit my shawl in time for my camping trip, @NiceCardigan, so I shall have to knit it on holiday rather than wear it!

Btw, thanks for mentioning Yarnsubs - I'd never heard of it. Sounds useful!

Oooh did I mention - I'm really excited! My dsis has booked me a two day beginner spinning course at a lovely place up in the Lakes in October as my 50th birthday present, with a stay overnight in a local b&b/pub Shock! It's at this lovely place. What with that and Yarndale, I'm going to have a nice crafty autumn!

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 20:07

Ahhh @MerylSqueak, now you're talking! I am a bit of an aficionado of fancy tea. Well... I mean 'proper' tea. Loose leaf, teapots, local independent tea sellers etc. I did have a caddy of Rose Pouchong from Fortnum's a few years ago - delicious!

Hmmm... I am easily distracted. I intended to start the new thread off, then leave you all settling in while I got on with my packing.... ...

MerylSqueak · 12/08/2021 20:39

Oo any recommendations @lazylinguist ?

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 20:56

Tea recommendations? Where do I start?! If you're after a strong tea to have with milk, I'd go for Royal Assam, Kenyan, Nilgiri or a house blend. To drink without milk, I like a smoky Lapsang Souchong or Russian Caravan, especially after a chilly autumn or winter walk. And you can't beat a really good loose leaf Earl Grey (I like mine strongish with milk, which some people think is a heinous crime). I'm not a fan of pure fruit teas, but I do like blends of actual proper tea with fruit added. Black tea with mango is my fave. Oh and I like a jasmine green tea too.

Ahem. Well, you did ask...

Ooo lovely, shiny new thread with tea and cake this time. I like the idea of festooning, less likely to get covered in Labrador fur. I’ll bring the little desk lamp that is great for seeing my stitches but blinds the rest of the room!

I’ve started my Jack Skellington blanket this evening, so need the little lamp then I can see my stitches in the black yarn. Can’t finish my shawl until I buy more wool at weekend. Does 3 shawls count as an unofficial craft along?

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 21:01

I am such an embarrassing tea nerd that at university I had a full bone china tea set (from a seconds stall) and umpteen kinds of tea, and friends used to go via my room on the way to the library etc and choose a tea to have. Blush Don't worry, I spent plenty of time in the college bar as well - I'm not a complete weirdo. Grin

Does 3 shawls count as an unofficial craft along?

Definitely. Desk lamp is a good addition! I used to use what my family call my 'boob light' (which I think we discussed on the first thread Grin). I don't use it much these days as we have better lighting in the living room!

I have pretty much packed! Dh is in charge of packing all the actual camping gear, so it wasn't too onerous. Ooh - actually I need to pack ddog's stuff. He takes up a lot of room just himself, never mind his bed, food etc. We may have to take two cars...

lucysmam · 12/08/2021 21:22

I'm back, with a possibly random question...

If you're making a jumper and front/back are the same, how do you remember which is which? Do you put yourself a label of some sort in?

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 21:30

If tyey are the same, does it matter which is which? My Lettlopivest (sleeveless jumper) was the same front and back, but there’s a tiny little bumpy bit where I cast off, so I keep that as the back!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 12/08/2021 21:59

I'm not sure tbh; I don't have much in the way of boobs so they'd not stretch it 🤷‍♀️ I'll carry on as I am for now & see what I think when it's done.

lazylinguist · 12/08/2021 22:10

Ah - I am fairly substantial in the boob department, so my Lettlopivest now looks a bit like it has a boob side and a non-boob side Grin.

Brings some cake (cream scones anyone?) Not done any crochet since Monday, hoping to spend a good chunk of tomorrow making some more of my monkey.

MerylSqueak · 12/08/2021 23:34

Thank you @lazylinguist I like strong tea so I am glad to have those to try.

I'm back in my usual style: starting a scarf and undoing it. I frustratingly really liked it and as I was admiring it realised I had made a mistake on the third row Sad

@lucysmam I just put the bit I like the most at the front.

Cocopogo · 12/08/2021 23:37

Trying to catch up with the thread!

CrochetBug · 12/08/2021 23:40

I've got some ginger cake for the table if anyone wants any. My Grandad made it and it's delicious.

Just frogged an entire row of my cardigan because I didn't read the pattern properly Blush

itsme · 13/08/2021 08:34

Thank you for your kind comments on my willow square. I'd offer birthday cake but my silly DH forgot to get one 🙄 I've got a box of seashell truffles I'll share instead.

In regards to this... why is it gappy? On the pattern it says to ch2 then carry on the row- doesn't say about adding a st in to same one as the ch should I try that? Otherwise it doesn't look horrendous for a first go.
