sophs no! They’re just made of wood! 😂 Very pretty though. I stumbled on them because I found a yarn holder with a lovely hook holder at the side. I just don’t think my £10 set of hooks (and other accessories) from Amazon will have the same aesthetics 😂

I did see the penis shaped hook! There’s a lot of detail in the handle 😳 You’d have to be very careful leaving those hooks around, I couldn’t just accidentally leave one of those hooks out if my grandma came to visit! 😂 I’m not going to even look at making my own handles out of clay - I’ve got enough craft stuff and I don’t need to another craft into the mix! Depending on how long they take you though you could set up a little Etsy shop selling your hooks - there’ll be idiots like me who decide they need a full set of homemade crochet hooks (despite having a perfectly functional but boring to look at set).

@myshitisreal I've only made the one baby cardigan in Tunisian, but have started a scarf for my niece too. I definitely want to do something more complicated though and learn more stitches. I just need more time to fit it all in Grin

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 10:46

@sophs29 I'm right with your mum on the pretty things! I love all things girly, sparkly, shiny 😊

link for socks in case you want to have a look.

I've stalled already. Dd1's not up & I need to break the old bathroom light pull box thingy off, to replace it. Some fool's painted over it & the spring in it's moved so we'll be in the dark in there soon 🙄

lazylinguist · 20/08/2021 14:29

Wow - the thread's moving quite fast! Smile

@cookiemonster5 - how worrying and frustrating for you! I hope you get it all sorted soon Flowers.

Does the addition of nylon make them more durable? I think linguist makes really fancy socks from a book? They seem so complicated.

Yes, nylon is supposed to reinforce the yarn and stop it getting felted or worn out. I definitely don't make fancy socks Grin. My book is a beginners' sock book. It starts with a basic sock pattern, very clear and step-by-step with lots of explanation about how to get the size right etc. Then it has versions of that pattern for all the different yarn weights. The rest of the book has different variations- ankle socks with a frill, cable socks, ones with lacy hole patterns etc, but I've never ventured onto those - I just stick with the basic sock pattern!

Well, replacing the light pull has turned into a royal pain in the arse. The whole bloody thing broke off & none of the wires are long enough to wire the new one! Wish I'd not bloody bothered.

Grandad's calling in a bit, so I'll see what he thinks. I can't locate another of the same to buy a replacement so need to work something out.

I've tackled the jungle that was the front garden too, just need the mower out but have run out of steam for today.

I'm going to do a couple of rows of my friend's gloves now while I wait for grandad.

NiceCardigan · 20/08/2021 16:15

@MerylSqueak I am still around but am hosting an 80th birthday bbq for MIL and extended family this weekend. It’s now forecast to rain all afternoon tomorrow so have had to rearrange the house so everyone can fit inside. I am soooo stressed already!

NiceCardigan · 20/08/2021 16:17

The first visitors will be here at 5.30 but there is still too much to do or I’d hide somewhere and do some crochet.

Myshitisreal · 20/08/2021 16:21

Sending big hugs for @cookiemonster5

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 17:12

@InTheNightWeWillWish I clearly didn't look at them in as much detail as you..🙄😉😂 I'm not going to attempt any until it gets colder, my hands are always too clammy in summer to touch clay, but I doubt they'll be that good 😂

Oh thank you @lucysmam and hope your grandad managed to find a solution for your light! We had all ours replaced last week!

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 18:09

@sophs29 he didn't, and we also discovered that, since unscrewing the old fitting, none of the other upstairs overhead lights work ffs 🙄🙄🙄 I'm knackered & very eye rolley this afternoon! I was going to sit in bed later & crochet with a glass of wine :(

sophs29 · 20/08/2021 18:14

Oh blimey @lucysmam how frustrating 😣 is your grandad still there trying to fix them or? Have you checked your fuse board to see if it tripped your upstairs lights?

lucysmam · 20/08/2021 18:19

Just a bit! He's gone home, there's not much point in poor light really 🤷‍♀️ The fuse board's all on or at least looks to be - the electrician who replaced the kitchen sockets did say it's well outdated & wants replacing so who knows. It's all just so annoying.

lazylinguist · 20/08/2021 19:15

Oh no, @lucysmam - what a nightmare!

@cookiemonster5 Flowers that sounds immensely stressful, I hope you get answers soon.

lazylinguist · 20/08/2021 20:34

Btw, as I said, I don't make fancy socks. But this lady certainly does... love these!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 20/08/2021 21:17

Oh my goodness lazy those are definitely fancy socks! They all look so pretty displayed like that!

lazylinguist · 20/08/2021 22:21

I know - I want them all 😍

Nice socks! I'm on the Drops group on Facebook and there are some amazing ones

Good luck today@NiceCardigan. I'm sure everyone will have a great time.

It's tipping it down here. I'll be amazed if we get any tomatoes this year. We've had so little sun.

Sorry to hear your lighting woes @lucysmam. We're contemplating rewiring- by which I mean we're hoping to get away with not doing it.

WeatherwaxOn · 21/08/2021 09:56

Hello, may I join you?
Found this thread linked from another.
Complete crochet newbie here and I would appreciate a little advice/help.
A friend got me started with my first ever granny square, but I don't know how to get back to the corner so I can chain the stitches to "go up a level".
Can anyone talk me through?

I know it isn't very square looking but I am just practicing until I know what I am doing.

Wow this thread is amazing! Everyone is so talented those socks are amazing!! I still haven't figured out how to follow a crochet pattern but sure will figure it out eventually.

I've been working on this blanket that's all I can make for now Grin I know a good selection of basic stitchs this blanket is taking foreverrrrr I prefer chunky crocheting 8mm hook and above and this is a 4mm. It's a mix of greys and blush pink. I need to add more pink sections and edge it and add tassels.

I also have some beautiful yarn I got in abakhan sale which is so fine it will take ages to do anything with.

Has anyone seen B n M selection of yarns and wool it's so so good they had a lovely range of chenille and velvet types for £2 a ball 100g Grin

WeatherwaxOn I still can't do a granny square for the life of me I just end up doing rows and rows to create a blanket. I found Bella coco on YouTube really good.

You don't need to get back to the corner, just do your CH3 where you are, then 2 DC in the stitches remaking and whatever you're meant to do in the corner. Each time you'll need to do more stitches after your CH3.
CrochetBug · 21/08/2021 10:08

@WeatherwaxOn you can either slip stitch into a couple of stitches and then the corner and then chain up, or chain up where you are and start the new round from mid row. Personally I prefer the 1st method.

@lucysmam, sounds like we need a new house between us! Our bath and bathroom sink won't drain, plus no cold water in the bathroom including the flush Hmm

lucysmam · 21/08/2021 10:13

@CrochetBug indeed! I'm on the look-out but there's not much handy for both schools, to walk to them, that I can afford.

We had no running cold water upstairs when we moved in 🙄 it's just one thing after another.

What's everyone doing today? I'm hoping to get another hour in the front garden while it's stopped raining & tackle the overflowing washing basket...I swear my kids have asked next door for their washing 🤔. Once that's done, there are 4 rows of the second glove to do then sew them up this afternoon.

CrochetBug · 21/08/2021 10:18

Tell me about it! All the houses around here are at least £200pcm more than I'm paying, and usually a lot smaller so no scope to turn them into a 3bed like we have.

It's DS1s birthday today. Not sure I'm old enough to have a 17 year old but there we are!
We're going to mums at lunch time to have cream teas and play card games. Then we're getting fish and chips from the chippy for dinner.
My step brothers band are headlining a gig tonight and the club it's in is for ages 14+ so we can all go. (DS2 is 14) He's not on until 10pm mind so it's going to be a late night!
