Oh, it's pretty. The colours look very calming. I think a fringe will finish it nicely, it'll be lovely for snuggling in 😍

InTheNightWeWillWish · 17/08/2021 14:26

The pink is a bit brighter in real life, it doesn’t photograph well for some reason. The grey and blue are photographing fine! Actually the pink is one of those odd ones, in the ball it’s a dusky pink but in the actual shawl and next to the other colours it looks a bit brighter. I’m fascinated in how the colour perception changes based the stitches used, the colours you place it next to and how colours can look totally different in a ball next to each other vs in stitches next to each other. If I ever have more free time, can afford to work less and study I’ll do a PhD on this. Or possibly the mathematics and engineering behind crochet/knitting. I can already imagine my dad’s face when I tell him I’m a doctor in yarn Grin

MerylSqueak · 17/08/2021 15:49

Oo that's nice @InTheNightWeWillWish. Tassels, I think, definitely!

Fabulous blanket@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

Sounds like a fantastic holiday@lazylinguist. How do you get your children to sleep in after you while camping? Mine were giving the dawn chorus a wake-up call.

I'm quite liking how my new scarf is shaping up (no, still haven't finished the old one - I am not very excited about it at the moment and anyway I have lost my print out of the pattern). Love a bit of texture me!

Sounds like a fab PhD @InTheNightWeWillWish

lazylinguist · 17/08/2021 18:29

@InTheNightWeWillWish - have you ever seen the mobile phone game called Blendoku? It's not quite a PhD Grin but it's a weirdly addictive colour matching/blending puzzle thing. Your comment about colours looking different depending on what they're next to really reminded me of it. I don't do mobile games, but this one had me hooked!

Hope you're feeling better today @lucysmam

@InTheNightWeWillWish that's gorgeous! I love that blue! I couldn't even see the pink until you said and I properly zoomed in 😂 so strange how cameras and lighting alter how something looks!

@MerylSqueak that's looking great!

eitak22 · 17/08/2021 22:13

No crochet for me for a little while, going away for 5 days and don't have the space to pack a project.

Myshitisreal · 18/08/2021 14:30

I've finished my dragonfly scarf. It took me 2 months 😥 of pretty incessant crocheting

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/806554353/dragonfly-hide-n-seek-crochet-shawl is the pattern. I've made it twice now, once with thicker drops wool.

I extended the width and height so its 405 stitches wide (185cm), and 94 rows (80cm). I used scheepies whirl red velvet sunrise. It's been washed and dried up very nicely.

It's a surprise gift, I can't wait to get rid of it 😂.

It's impossible to get a picture of the whole thing as it's closer to 2 metres long (wide?). I used a 2.5 hook to match the patterns tension (she used 3. 5 I think).

I hope the receiver likes it. My first scheepjes whirl experience. Absolutely loved the colour transition, and now DK feels like huge thick rope 😂

I've now started a cable cardigan for myself. I could weep, it's like nothing I've ever done before. I'll see if I can get a pic up later. I chose a camo green 100% merino wool . It has a back piece, two sides for the front (?), two pieces between the sides and the back, a hood and pockets 🤯. A year ago, I couldn't even read a pattern. I still can't really 😞 to say I'm outside my comfort zone is putting it mildly. The cables are making more sense the more I do.

I'm also making myself a scrap hexagon cardy. I'm new to clothes. It scares me

If anyone needs an explanation of the hexagon cardy let me know. I've added another row or two since. Two big hex sewed together once the right width. Then you lengthen the sleeves and body. Add pockets and a hood. It's a free pattern. The kind of thing I can Crochet in the dark as it's just a granny square with more sides 😂
There's a video and a downloadable pdf.
I've never made clothes before.

I also can't remember if I put my mosaic blanket up with the skulls and cats, anyone remember?

Some beautiful stuff on this thread but I don't know user names. Beautiful plethora of brightly coloured squares, and a beautiful shawl. And a scarf on a hoop?

Also love the idea of linguist knitting in a tent listening to the 🐮 😂

Also, did someone say Jack skellington? 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Big fan. Show!

Cable cardigan www.etsy.com/uk/listing/995056483/cozy-cabled-cardi-crochet-pattern-pdf

Free hexagon cardy which I'm gonna apply some creative licence to 😂 there will definitely be skulls.

Grin I've just been knitting listening to the relentlessly howling wind Hmm.

That dragonfly scarf is amazing Shock - I'm not surprised it took you a long time!

@eitak22 can you not squeeze in a tiny couple of scrap balls, a hook and a pair of nail clippers (if you can't carry tiny scissors). I've enclosed a photo of Bella coco butterflies, there's a written pattern or video. I just like to always have crochet and it's perfect for those tiny little scrap balls. I added a few little touches to the pattern

MerylSqueak · 18/08/2021 14:51

@sophs29 thanks! @Myshitisreal yes it is a scarf on a hoop. I always use circular needles, even when I am knitting flat. I find it easier. Great scarf btw. I haven't seen any cats and skulls but I think the Gothic Valley WI on Facebook would be right up your street. I'm scared of clothes too, mainly because my proportions don't seem to fit many shop bought clothes (long waist, small ribs, big boobs) and learning how to do the pattern and alterations seems very stressful!

sophs29 · 18/08/2021 16:05

@Myshitisreal wow that's another work of art! Absolutely beautiful! The receiver of it is very lucky indeed! I think I remember seeing skulls and cats a few threads back? But feel free to attach another pic to this thread ☺️

Myshitisreal · 18/08/2021 16:06

That's fascinating about the circular needles. There are so many avenues to explore aren't there??? How did you learn it?

Ill definitely check the Facebook, I have a fake one I've used for a group. I'm not on Facebook! I find the groups a bit intimidating

Heres the mosaic crochet craziness. All patterns by www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SixelHome apart from the cats I wrote myself. The two kitties were on honor of one who passed away in January. The blanket took 240 hours, that's underestimating 😂. I still need to border it properly but it's so heavy I'll wait for winter. I think it's 3-4kilos or something .

I am panicking about the cardigan fitting. Even though I matched the gauge 😬

Having trouble adding pics

Myshitisreal - I'm making my shawl on circular needles too. You don't need to learn anything new to do it. You just turn the work around and knit the other side when you get to the end of the row, just like you do on straight needles! It's good when you're knitting something big that won't easily fit on straight needles.

sophs29 · 18/08/2021 19:25

@Myshitisreal it looks so professional! What yarn did you use? Your stitches are so neat it looks like it's been done on a machine 😂 I love it!

Does anyone on here use 'Ribblr'? A pattern I just came across on Pinterest took me to Ribblr and I've signed up and it looks quite good from my quick 5 second glance 🙄😂 but just wondered if it is actually good 😂

CrochetBug · 18/08/2021 19:44

I made one thing from ribblr, but it was shit. The sizing was all off so I frogged it. Probably just that pattern though!

I had my 2nd jab today and have arm ache so can't crochet much Sad

sophs29 · 18/08/2021 19:52

Ahhh I see! Thanks for the heads up though @CrochetBug I've just been having a scroll whilst I'm in the bath and there's a couple of little patterns that have caught my eye! Nothing too major though that will annoy me if they work out wrong 😂
I hope your arm is less achey soon! I have my second one in a couple of weeks and have heard the second one is worse but I don't know how true that is!

lazylinguist · 18/08/2021 19:55

OMG @Myshitisreal - that blanket is incredible!

Hi all just enjoyed myself having a catch up on this thread! Some amazing works!!

We were meant to be away for a few days but after a dodgy meal in the hotel restaurant on night 1 food poisoning hit and my 3 boys and DH have suffered horribly so we have come home after 2 days away :( the happy part is i came home to my huge wool warehouse order for the doctor who C2C blanket but right now i am playing nurse so not even unpacked it yet!!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 18/08/2021 21:18

Hi all! 👋 I'm so behind on this thread, you're all a 10th in already!

Lovely projects!

Oh no givemebooks that's awful. I hope you're all on the mend soon Flowers

We had a camping disaster, we were supposed to be away until Friday, but it turned out to be the kind of site where kids reenact Lord of the flies while their parents get drunk around fires and we abandoned it and came home after one night. I'm 3 cups of tea and a hot shower down and recovering from the horror. Never again, I'm sticking to camping and caravanning sites where most people have good camping etiquette.

And to add insult to injury, I got no knitting done whatsoever...

InTheNightWeWillWish · 18/08/2021 21:34

lazy have you ever seen the mobile phone game called Blendoku?

I haven’t but I might check it out if I need a break from crocheting.

myshitisreal it’s me doing a Jack Skellington blanket! No photos yet as I’ve started with the black granny squares which isn’t that interesting but the pattern is www.etsy.com/uk/listing/553157555/halloween-blanket-crochet-pattern?ref=yr_purchases. I love the dragonfly blanket, the colours are so pretty. I can understand why you’re fed up of it though. Tbh most scarves I’ve tried I get really fed up with but oddly don’t seem to get fed up with blankets 🤷‍♀️

flavia and givemebooks I’m sorry you both had rubbish breaks. It feels like such a disappointment after the last year too. DH is setting us up for camping next year (I’m refusing to go this year) and your story Flavia doesn’t make me feel that excited about the prospect!

crochetbug hope your arm feels better soon. I’m also in the vaccine sore arm club today, although mine wasn’t the covid vaccine. With my second covid vaccine I needed a couple of paracetamol and some antihistamines as I had a reaction at site but it only took two lots of each for it to go down and my arm to feel OK again.

lazylinguist · 18/08/2021 21:52

Oh no, Flavia and givemebooks! So sorry about your holidays! My campsite is pretty civilised, but it's not the best holiday tbh, due to the weather. The area is pretty much just (beautiful) beaches and nothing much else, so when it's 15° and windy it's a bit rubbish! We're planning to go home a day early on Friday, because the forecast for Saturday is torrential rain - not great for packing the tent up!

I was going to post a pic of my shawl earlier, but it's very squidged onto the needles now, so hard to photograph. Plus there's nowhere sensible in the tent to lay it out Grin

Love reading what everyone's doing.

@crochetbug your granny square was gorgeous. I always admire the book of granny Squares. Hope you're feeling better post jab.

Thanks for your kind blanket words. Definitely wasn't a machine 😂 it was all caron simply soft with a few of the bigger cakes. I've heaps left so am using for my crazy cat lady colourful cardigan.

I love the jack skellington blanket @InTheNightWeWillWish. That's going to be amazing.

Talking about gaps at the start of rows, I've had some good success with standing stitches. I only recently learnt how much tension affects the outcome. The scheepjes whirl I went down 1-1.5 in hook. For the cable cardigan I've had to go up a whole size. I've spent hours tonight going through the 51 page pattern, and drew myself a picture of all the elements of the cardigan. As I'm using a bigger hook to get the same tension as the creator, I can't work out if that means I'll use more or less wool 🤭

Think this cable cardy is the hardest thing I've ever tried to make. I thought mosaic crochet was difficult. I have so much respect for my dearly departed gran who used to knit me endless cable cards with her arthritic hands. Wish I still had one.

Does anyone have any pics of cable work, knitting or crochet? I'd love to see. Love seeing everyone's pictures.

Oh @givemebooks and @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack what awful luck 😣

@InTheNightWeWillWish I absolutely love that blanket pattern, my sister would love it! Bet it's hard on the eyes at night though! Not the same but I remember in my first ever job as a sewing machinist I was sewing black on black and black thread and I was straining my eyes so much I got my first ever migraine!

@Myshitisreal I love the look of yarn cakes! I'm going to get some once I settle on a project for them! All your colours are amazing!
