I didn't know there was such a thing Flavia; I'll try that now & see what it comes up with, thanks.

tizwoz I need to google the word now!

lucysmam · 02/06/2021 22:00

No, it doesn't bring it up as the original. Very handy looking site though; I've left the tab open so I don't forget it exists!

MerylSqueak · 02/06/2021 23:04

Very cute @tizwozliz pterodactyl. Very neat.

@lucysmam amazing what a difference an ear makes! Very cut dogbunny too.

Can anyone help me out I wonder ? DD has chosen a yarn she like for a beachy type tshirt. I'm thinking a very simple, wide lace pattern. It's a gradient yarn In a very bright colour and, regrettably, lace weight. Can anyone suggest a link to a pattern? I've searched and searched but I am not very happy with what I have found (Ravelry mainly). I'm not confident making my own pattern. She's about a size 8 and I think I have about 600m.

MerylSqueak · 02/06/2021 23:08

It's this. I have 3 so a bit more than 600m

CrochetBug · 02/06/2021 23:12

@MerylSqueak look for the Captiva Crop. It's made with 3-ply. No idea how that compares with lace weight but if you can get the gauge right it it would work I think. I'm planning to make one in 4 ply when I'm done with all my pattern tests.

MerylSqueak · 03/06/2021 00:00

I will. Thank you.

MerylSqueak · 03/06/2021 09:14

It's actually perfect except that I can't crochet well enough. Sorry I should have said.

tizwozliz · 03/06/2021 09:53

Opskrift @lucysmam literally 'up written' I think

YanTanTethera123 · 03/06/2021 16:39

Thank you everyone 🤗
I have decided that the pattern is very badly written, for example it tells you to repeat a section once where it’s actually repeated 4 times 🙄
I’m going to closely scrutinise every row before I knit it!
There are complaints on one website about it so I guess I just have to be very careful.
I do love this thread, it’s like a really friendly oasis of calm on MN. Thank you all again.

SinkGirl · 03/06/2021 17:38

Guys, I need a cry.

Yesterday after nearly finishing my blanket I laid it out to measure it and spotted the biggest ever error right down the middle. Had to rip half the bugger out. I’ve been working on it for weeks. This was yesterday and I can’t bring myself to pick it up again so I’m finishing the border on the little one and will write up the pattern before finishing it. Boooooooo!

Myshitisreal · 03/06/2021 17:58

Awww @sinkgirl it's so beautiful. I guess at least you noticed before you finished and bordered it.

I spent over two weeks working on a filet scarf then frogged it as it wasn't long enough. It's heart breaking.

It's a gorgeous pattern. I hope you're able to catch up with yourself soon 😭

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 03/06/2021 18:06

Oh no @SinkGirl! Shock Nightmare! It's such a lovely blanket too.

That's a nuisance @YanTanTethera123, I wonder if the chart is right or if it's up the left too? I'd be too annoyed to go on with it so I admire your perseverance!

Your description reminded me of this one @MerylSqueak www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cancun-boxy-lace-top but it's DK. Could you could double the lace up with something without losing the gradient effect? I think that lace pattern would be totally lost in lace weight even if you matched gague. This was probably the least helpful comment ever, sorry Grin

Awww - it's lovely to have you along! I love your username btw.

@SinkGirl - oh no, what a nightmare! It does look so beautiful though - I hope you can bring yourself to go back to it!

Aww SinkGirl what a pain in the backside!

I had started the second half of my top, in between googling for electricians. Then the upstairs loo cistern fell off the wall 🙄🙈 It's like living in the house that Jack bloody built!

SinkGirl · 03/06/2021 22:24

Well tonight I finished the border on the reverse colour smaller one so at least that’s done. Went back to the big one but the yarn has stretched... trying to figure out whether I can get away with it or whether I need to bin the £20 worth of yarn I just ripped out and order more. What an idiot - won’t make that mistake again!

Oh no @lucysmam - it hasn’t cracked has it? If it’s porcelain please be extremely careful - I nearly amputated my arm when a sink broke (hence my username!)

lucysmam · 03/06/2021 22:28

No, thankfully not. It's pulled three of the tiles off the wall but I've barred the girls from using the bathroom until I get a proper look in daylight tomorrow (the spring in the light pull's broken, so no light in there, & I hadn't got round to replacing it yet so I guess I'll do that tomorrow too 🙄).

SinkGirl · 03/06/2021 22:50

That sounds like a nightmare. I live in fear of things breaking - unless I can knit / crochet / paper cut a replacement it’s not getting fixed by me! Do be careful though - the sink that tried to kill me only had a hairline crack in it - I tripped and fell on it and the front half just sheared of the wall and I slid down the bit left behind. So if it’s at all cracked, get someone to take it away very carefully - can’t be too careful!

MerylSqueak · 04/06/2021 09:18

Morning all

Goodness me All the sink drama! I've always thought of them as completely benign objects. I know better now. I hope it's not too stressful getting it sorted @lucysmam

@SinkGirl I am really sorry about your blanket.it will be stunning and last forever and you'll always be happy you undid the mistake. Think of that! Sometimes I just don't know how I miss things. I feel like I check all the time!

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBackAgain that's perfectly what I wanted. I might have a play around and see if I can make it work. Thank you.

I broke my vow not to buy any more yarn until I have used up what I have got last night. Wool Warehouse have Rowan Island Blend at half price and I love that wool. I bought 6 to make myself a scarf. Now I have to find a pattern for that too. Does anyone else seem to disappear down pattern hunting rabbit holes for hours on end?

lucysmam · 04/06/2021 11:04

I've just taken delivery of my latest Deramores order; I didn't really need it but have the scarf pattern half written up & was planning to finish that this week.

Unfortunately the raspberry red is pink-er than it looked on my screen so is totally wrong :( The burnt orange however, is perfect.

I need suggestions for a fairly cheap Liverpool FC red, if anyone's used one they'd say is the right colour. I could have nipped into the local yarn shop today but the girls have decided they don't want to go to town 🙄

Craftucation · 04/06/2021 11:32

Morning everyone! My name's Nikki and I'm new to the site and came looking for other crafty types!

I'm a knitter, crocheter, dyer, spinner and am learning to weave! I've run a wool shop and I also teach.

I can't wait to get to know you all and share some WIPs! I'm going to have to go for a quick google and figure out how to add pictures!

lucysmam · 04/06/2021 11:55

There should be a little paper clip icon under the text box you type in @Craftucation. Click that & it'll give you options for locations to upload from :)

lazylinguist · 04/06/2021 11:56

Hi Nikki - welcome aboard! Just a word of warning - I just googled your username because it sounded like a company name, and it took me straight to the Craftucation web page which has your full name on it - potentially bit outing if you're planning to hang out on MN much and post on other boards etc!

Welcome Nikki! To Mumsnet and the thread Smile

That is so lovely @SinkGirl! I'm not sure which of the two I like best. I'm also now well warned about the dangers of porcelain, that sounds horrendous Shock I hope you're all healed now!

Flip @lucysmam, hope it's not too expensive to fix. There's a Stylecraft special DK that's a bright Christmas red if that's any use? I can't remember what it's called though...

Oh good MerylSqueak I've always fancied making it so had it in my favourites.

In my only wool related news of today, DS2 got hold of my fancy bottle of wool wash from the bathroom and washed his brother's teddy in it before I caught on to what he was doing. I'd only used it twice! Hmm I suppose my drains will be spotless at least...

lucysmam · 04/06/2021 16:19

The cistern is back on the wall! The original hadn't cracked thankfully so the plumber's used that one and re-connected it all. Only charged £30 ish as well which was a pleasant surprise!

The dodgy sockets in the kitchen are sorted as well. The sparky recommended a new circuit board though - the one in the house is ancient!

Just need to sort the original bathroom leak now...🙄

Thanks for the Stylecraft suggestion Flavia, I'll see if my local shop stocks it online then nip in, in person, if they do!

I was planning to make the bee today. Unfortunately, all the comings-and-goings, a hair appointment for dd1 and needing a top up shop have meant the day has run away from me :(

I have cake, wine, and am ordering a takeaway shortly though so I'll make a start this evening hopefully.

Ooh, I almost forgot, I ordered some super cheap yarn from Aliexpress a couple of weeks ago. It discounted it quite a bit, and would only let me have one :( but it's quite pretty for 87p

It turns out, it's much easier to make a nice face on an amigurumi character when I'm only at the face/head part, rather than at the end! I'm quite pleased with the little bees face 🐝

It's not bright enough to carry on his stripes though, so I'll do that tomorrow.
