@MerylSqueak

That's gorgeous *@SinkGirl* I really want to try brioche.

Also awed by your colourwork @lazylinguist so neat and great colours.

One word: lifelines

My first brioche project was torture because I didn’t use lifelines - if you drop a stitch you’re screwed. Literally screwed. As you can see there’s a line through it that’s totally wrong and stands out a mile but I couldn’t rip it back without starting the whole section over as I didn’t really understand how it worked (gets better with more practice).

Thanks for the compliments on the jumper! I guess it's kind of neat, but there's a slight bit of puckering on a couple of earlier rows where I left the floats a bit long without weaving them in. I'm hoping blocking will sort that out though!

That's a cute idea, thank you @QuiltedBear However I don't think I have enough other cotton dk in my stash and I can't really justify doing another order and paying more postage just for a few balls! I'll see how I go maybe!

Sorry @lucysmam I've never tried them! But exciting you've been asked to make things! I always enjoy it more when someone's requested it! It seems more worthwhile!

Also I'm sorry if my posts look odd, my MN isn't posting italics, bolds etc where I want them too Hmm

Happy Friday everyone!

They're beautiful SinkGirl!

I've just found out there's two new yarn shops opening near me. There must be something about lockdown increasing yarn sales, I hope it keeps up Grin

lazylinguist · 28/05/2021 09:13

Wow SinkGirl - stunning stuff!
Ooh - new yarn shops plural? You lucky thing, Flavia! I'm looking forward to going back to Northern Yarn sometime, where I got my jumper yarn. I kind of feel like a regular now, even though I've only been once Grin because the owner is so friendly on her Instagram and FB pages and interacts a lot with her group of customers, posting their projects etc. I haven't managed go to the Zoom group again, but most of them have already finished their Goldwings I think!

I would love a browse in Northern Yarn lazy, they have so many of the wools I love using. I follow their Instagram and I love seeing all the different colours chosen for the goldwing.

Someone should start a yarn shop exchange program to take knitters on tours of local yarn shops and scenery. I could do - Titanic shipyard, yarn shop, glorious glens of Antrim, yarn shop, game of thrones location, yarn shop, beautiful Strangford loch, yarn shop, best cinnamon scones in the world, yarn shop, ect ect ect Grin

lazylinguist · 28/05/2021 10:50

Sounds amazing! I could do... Northern Yarn, Cool Crafting, Kendal Wool Gathering, Wild Wool Barn (not been there, but they do spinning, felting and weaving classes as well as selling stuff),The Wool Clip (an award-winning Cumbrian wool-workers' co-operative and shop here ). Plus lots of lakes and mountains!

I went into the office this morning for the first time in about 9 months! So obviously this morning was a mad dash to find where I’d put my bloody door pass. I found it at the bottom of my handbag that I’ve not used for months… smashed up. Oops Blush but upside I found the buttons I bought for my cowl (that was my first project and has been unfinished while I found some buttons) and some buttons for another project in there! So I can finally finish my first ever project - 6 months after I finished it Grin End of May/early June is the perfect time to finish a cowl right?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 28/05/2021 13:43

Oops but also yay InTheNight Grin Definitely a good time, you can now feel all smug about being prepared for Autumn Wink

That sounds lovely lazy!

tizwozliz · 28/05/2021 15:10

I'm really behind on all my crochet projects, I've kept putting things aside thinking i had loads of time and it's all crept up on me.

In other news, less puppies than expected in the litter so will have to start looking again :-(

lucysmam · 28/05/2021 18:25

Would any of you put a border on a scarf? It probably won't ever be worn as a scarf, & won't have tassles? I'm just trying to work out how much yarn to order for the one I designed using Stitch Fiddle :)

eitak22 · 28/05/2021 21:28

I'm planning on putting a border on my infinity scard to straighten the edges but probably wouldn't if it was a straight edge on but would depend on design.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 29/05/2021 08:03

tizwozliz sorry there weren’t as many puppies as expected. That’s rubbish that you’re back to looking. Dogs are still crazy at the minute. Hopefully it’ll start settling down though now. Fingers crossed for your labrador pup soon.

Our pup is almost in the same dog-school class as our older one now, the older one still goes to training but it’s enhanced obedience and more for socialisation at this stage. So this means back to back classes today. Bad news is I have to sit in the car for an hour and then do training with one dog. The good news is that I’m going to take my crochet and I can get a solid hour done because there’s nothing else to do in a car park on a farm. This will be the case for at least the next 12 weeks while pup does his classes. 12 hours of crochet guaranteed. I just need to do a bit of planning in the week to make sure I don’t need to change yarn as that might get a bit tricky in the front seat.

Myshitisreal · 29/05/2021 18:12

@flavia Belfast here 👋

lucysmam · 29/05/2021 19:13

Blanket is 3.5 feet long! I'm quite surprised by that. & also bored of it again 🙄 so I'm going to start the bunny tonight.

I'm going to try this pattern, unless any of you have any tried & tested free ones you'd recommend? :)

CrochetBug · 29/05/2021 19:28

I've made this one @lucysmam. And onedogwoof has a lovely pattern that's meant to be really good too.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 29/05/2021 19:31

Me too Myshitisreal! 👋 Class Grin I wonder if we've bumped into each other at some point?

In the selfless interests of stimulating the economy I went to Hank's Yarn Parlour and it's got some gorgeous wool. I came away with some new yarn I'm going to make into a cowl/shawl.

Myshitisreal · 29/05/2021 20:30

Hold the phone, that's right round the corner from me 😂 I've never heard of it.

I've only ever bought wool in the wee shop in Belfast City centre (at the side of marks), or the one up the cregagh. I'm obviously missing a trick. I really got into buying wool online with lockdown but I do miss squeezing it.

Im making a dragonfly scarf once frogged 4 times? It's breaking my heart. My inner perfectionist is an absolute cow. I wish i could block it out.

That wee bunny is so cute.

Myshitisreal · 29/05/2021 20:34

There's the start of the shawl. It's 405 stitches long 😭

I'm also debating crocheting this for myself

Maybe in crazy colours. I have heaps of caron simply soft but it turns a bit fuzzy so I don't know what to do.

Has anyone ever made a hexagon. Cardigan? I like tjw simplicity of it. I kind of want to free hand as much as I can

lucysmam · 29/05/2021 20:41

Thanks @CrochetBug, I'll have a look at both now :)

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 29/05/2021 21:42

Ooh, if you haven't been to Folklore on Bloomfield Ave either then you've a treat in store! You could do it, Hanks and the one on the Cregagh in the space of an hour of so Grin Are you doing head vs heart with the voucher scheme too? I'm fully in the fantasy shopping zone atm Grin

I thought that one out the back of M&S had gone! I'm glad it hasn't, it has such a good button selection.

Oof, 405 stitches? Good luck!

I'm spinning tonight, I had a couple of hours of peace and quiet and made the most of it!

MerylSqueak · 30/05/2021 09:48

MyshitisrealIs I knitted a dragonfly scarf the one from BooKints on Ravelry. It drove me bonkers too! Maybe it's dragonflies. 405 stitches!

I'm sorry about your puppy@tizwozliz

I'm seriously doubting myself. I keep ending up with the wrong number of stitches in my shawl even though the pattern is simple. It's really frustrating because I can only knot a little and I am spending a lot of the time I have frogging Sad.

I'm jealous of the yarn shop talk. The one we have here is a little underwhelming.

lazylinguist · 30/05/2021 12:26

Wow - how funny that you two are nearby!
It will be a few craft-free days chez lazy. 2nd lot of family about to arrive - sis, bil and my two nephews. Mountains, paddleboarding and cooking planned!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 30/05/2021 12:28

Meant to say - sorry to hear about your puppy setback, tizwozliz Sad. Here's hoping you find one soon!

OP posts:
tizwozliz · 30/05/2021 12:40

Fingers crossed we might already be sorted :-D will go meet them in person in a couple of weeks. Have already watched them wandering round like little drunkards on a video chat. Although I'm a bit concerned that we may now actually have a choice, and I'll have to make some sort of decision on the day! 6 females in a litter of 9

I should be finishing off a crochet pterodactyl today as I've told my mum I'll have finished it this week but I'm sat in the garden with an iced latte instead
