lucysmam Octavia is cute. Does DD1 like her?

lucysmam · 23/05/2021 18:31

She does 😊

I'm just about to try and get the last few rows of the first side of my jacket done. Plan after that is to concentrate on the blanket for a couple of weeks.

lazylinguist · 24/05/2021 09:35

Octavia is lovely!

I'm finally nearing the end of the yoke of my Goldwing jumper! I like doing colourwork but it will be a bit of a relief to stop the double-handed knitting. My local shop who were running the Goldwing KAL are beginning to post pictures of people's finished ones. They look fab, and it's interesting to see what they look like in different colours. The latest one is in mc turquoise and cc coral, which is quite eye-catching!

Is anyone planning a splurge in the Furls sale?

They’ve got 20% off everything - link here bit.ly/2Tip2Qn
code is MAY20

I just got some more streamline swirls and my first Candy Shop - they are so comfortable to use.

Have also got a project bag which is gorgeous and a travel clutch - 20% off them is quite a big saving.

I wasn't aware of Furls before. They have some gorgeous stuff, but pretty expensive even at sale prices! I love the knitting needles... but £30 a pair. Shock

Ooohhh glad I found this thread no-one I know likes knitting or crochet so don't really get to chat with others about it Grin
How is everyone?
I'm crocheting a summer cardigan atm got half way through and realised I was doing it wrong and had to frog the lot.

lazylinguist · 25/05/2021 16:18

Hi AmarettoSours! Oh no - frogging sucks!

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 25/05/2021 17:14

Haven’t tried their knitting needles (because I already have expensive interchangeable ones 😬) but I really do love their hooks. I wouldn’t go for wooden ones in small sizes again as they are too fragile but the streamline swirl ones are so awesome to use.

SinkGirl · 25/05/2021 17:15

Frogging is the worst. I started a gorgeous cardigan in gorgeous yarn, realised it was too small, frogged some, yarn stretched... was gutted.

sophs29 · 25/05/2021 19:28

Welcome @AmmarettoSours oh no how annoying!!
I've done the body of my DS's jacket and now realised I'm definitely not going to have enough yarn! (First time I've ever used more than a pattern calls for) and it's^ now out of stock..lovely jubbly^ Hmm so I'll be waiting a long time to get the hood and sleeves done I think!

Eek! Sizing scares me. I've only relatively recently started making more actual garments that need to fit, and I am never remotely confident that they will. It's funny - I seem to have got less consistent with my tension as I've got more experienced at knitting. I think it's because I vary more in yarn weights, needles and types of pattern than I did as a beginner, so the tension never feels the same.

I only really like making oversized stuff - love knitting and crochet but hate making swatches and measuring them 😂

lazylinguist · 25/05/2021 21:40

I don't mind making swatches, I just have no idea if my wip will end up matching the tension of the swatch! I'll be gutted if my jumper doesn't fit after all this slow Fairisle pattern! Here it is so far. Only a few more rows left with the green contrast colour, then it's all blue from there.

Oh no @AmmarettoSours* Nightmare! Welcome to the thread though!

@SinkGirl If it's superwash it might have stretched anyway when you washed it? I'm grasping at straws but still!

I've lost my mojo a bit a lot I snapped my last wooden 3mm needle and was stuck on my project without it. Too busy with other things and then I'm too tired and lazy to knit at night. But on the up side, I finally got a new sofa and chairs that don't look or feel like they've been hauled out of a skip. Yay! I'm seriously tempted to knit a cushion cover now I've a sofa worthy of a knitted one... Maybe your DM should start selling them @Crochetbug, she must have enough to make an adult ball pit by now GrinWink

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 25/05/2021 21:44

Ooh cross post @lazylinguist, that is gorgeous!!! Beautiful colours, I like your choice.

NiceCardigan · 25/05/2021 21:54

I’m a bit gung-ho with sizing and I just go for it. Fortunately everything I’ve made so far has fitted!

Kate105 · 26/05/2021 07:36

I don't think I've swatched in about 10 years...! Just hope and pray every time 😂 and when in doubt, make the bigger size! I'm so lazy!

SinkGirl · 26/05/2021 08:53

Honestly I’m too chunky to pull off fitted knitted garments anyway so I stick to the floaty or oversized - two birds with one stone!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 26/05/2021 09:08

There's so many patterns I love but I have to alter so much or they'd look daft on me.

Do you remember those little cardboard dolls you cut out paper clothes for and wrapped them round with tabs? I saw someone on Instagram is doing those calculated to your actual body measurements. Then you can sketch out sewing or knitwear patterns to scale and try fitting it on your shape. I love the idea but my ability to draw a jumper to the right scale is probably lacking!

AmmarettoSours · 26/05/2021 12:08

lazylinguist that looks so pretty 😍

Making oversize items is always a nightmare they're either so big it looks like I'm wearing a tent or it fits me snugly.

QuiltedBear · 26/05/2021 15:31

Could you do the hood and sleeves in a contrasting colour instead, perhaps?
eitak22 · 26/05/2021 21:45

I've not made a jumper or any wearable yet, there's one I want to make so think that'll be my next project but knowing me it'll be done in 5 years lol Going by how long this cowl is taking me.

@lazylinguist your jumper looks stunning love the colours.

SinkGirl · 26/05/2021 21:49

I love doing stranded knitting. Also did a couple of two colour brioche knitting last year which almost drove me insane but love the finished patterns... this one looks lovely when done but too many rows of garter stitch for me!

MerylSqueak · 26/05/2021 22:44

That's gorgeous @SinkGirl I really want to try brioche.

Also awed by your colourwork @lazylinguist so neat and great colours.

lucysmam · 27/05/2021 10:39

I'm just catching up on the thread. Lazy that's so impressive, I love your colours.

Hi Amaretto :)

Sophs I like the suggestion to do a contrasting colour for the hood and sleeves.

I'm chugging away at dd2's blanket...averaging about 8 rows a day which isn't too bad. I'm just about to have an hour before I go back to work.

I have lots of requests for amigurumis - another octopus, a dino, a bunny and a bumble bee among them. Soooo, I'm wondering whether to order a variety of Marriner's £1/£1.20balls of dk. Has anyone used them before & could comment on their quality? Most are for dd2's friends, and a couple of my colleagues.
