Oh poop! I’m sure something else will come up soon!

I’ve not done any knitting this week I’ve just realised!

Tolouse · 14/05/2021 16:43

Commiserations LazyLinguist. I didn't get mine either. Interviewed and found out today. They've extended my contract (I'm on a temporary one and was going for a permanent one). They say there's a permanent one coming up in a couple of weeks that they want me to apply for but at the moment I feel like telling them to shove the whole lot

lazylinguist · 14/05/2021 16:52

BrewCake for us, @Tolouse. I'd go for WineGin, but it would only make me gloomy!

Boo to not getting the jobs.

I'm in a funk again and have done nothing all week, other than frog the sleeves on my pattern test because I don't like them. Hmm

My mum has, however, made a bajillion cushions.

Sorry you didn’t get yours either toulouse. I’ve done a fair few temp contracts where they keep promising you the chance of a permanent role. It’s so annoying. Are there other jobs in your sector at the moment?

Wow, crochetbug your mum has been so busy. It seems she’s definitely found her knitting bug again.

Scoobygang7 · 14/05/2021 17:47

@crochetbug your mum must have steam coming off her needles. I only wish I was that quick.

I've put my jumper down as my dp's colleagues fiancée had their little one 11 weeks early. So I don't have the time I thought I had to make their blanket. So I've been doing a garter and lace blanket, have managed 4.5 rounds of 20 rows in 2 weeks. Hoping I'll have it done by the time mum and baby are home.

lucysmam · 14/05/2021 21:19

Ah lazy, that's a shame. Onwards and upwards...your perfect job is just around the corner!

CrochetBug tell your mum to slow down; she makes the rest of us look slow Grin. It certainly looks like she's been enjoying herself!

I haven't managed much over the last few days. My collar bone's sore so trying not to do anything to make it worse. The octopus has a body though, and two tentacles are done. I'll do a little bit more tomorrow, sat up properly in the kitchen.

Kate105 · 15/05/2021 07:21

Ahhh @lazylinguist and @Tolouse I'm sorry about the jobs. Onwards and upwards!

tizwozliz · 15/05/2021 07:53

Sorry to hear about the jobs, at least they didn't keep you waiting to tell you.

I'm on holiday! First time not in my own house for quite a while. I grabbed a load of yarn and half finished projects to bring with me but no doubt will have left some vital component at home and will go home with just as much unfinished

SinkGirl · 15/05/2021 09:13

God i wish I could work fast! I’m trying to get the second larger sample of my rainbow blanket done so I can take photos and write up my pattern but I’m only about 1/3 of the way through. It’s taking forever!

NiceCardigan · 15/05/2021 10:12

Sorry about the jobs lazy and Tolouse hopefully a woolly weekend will make you feel a bit better about it.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/05/2021 11:23

Oh no, sorry to hear that Tolouse
If it makes you both feel better, I once completely lost my head in an interview to the extent that I not only completely avoid that company but the street they're on. I'm cringing just thinking about it. They asked me to write java on a whiteboard. It completely threw me and I wrote a lot of crap that a a level student probably could better...

CrochetBug · 15/05/2021 14:06

Just realised that's 2 photos of the same cushions (at least I think it is. Just in different places.)
She can't decide what to make next so will have to slow down for a while. Grin

MerylSqueak · 15/05/2021 14:38

This is Tolouse. I am trying out a new name. The spelling mistake in Tolouse is getting on my nerves! I changed it quickly and the proper spelling was taken and I thought I would live with it, but no.

That blanket is fab SinkGirl and so are those cushions Crochetbug. Some days I can't wait to be retired just so I can get some knitting done!

I am starting again with my shawl I think. I left out a yarn over a few rows back and I am not in the right frame of mind to try and undo it. I am struggling to get over my disappointment about the job and in a foul mood.

MerylSqueak · 15/05/2021 14:40

I should add, I am thoroughly ashamed of myself for not being more grown up.

lazylinguist · 15/05/2021 17:33

Aww cheer up MerylSqueak! Flowers I've decided there's no use crying over spilt milk. Dh is away this weekend. I got up reasonably early, did some yoga and housework, took the dc out for lunch and a bit of shopping and have been listening to an inspiring book on Audible. I only normally listen to foreign language books, but I decided I can fit more reading in if I do some of it as listening! It's called 'Human Kind' by Rutger Bregman and it's about how research shows that human nature is actually much nicer than we think. Smile It's really fascinating and has lots of very cheering facts and statistics.

Ewww no. Who wants to be a grown up! I certainly don't. Although I have signed up to virtually attend a Women's Institute meeting this week. That's really grown up ShockGrin
MerylSqueak · 15/05/2021 19:39

I used to work for the WI. I think it has great potential. Unfortunately, the groups round here are very set in their ways so I haven't joined one but I think the ones that modernise and latch onto the slow food and crafting vibe can be amazing. I follow the Gothic Valley WI in Facebook and they're fab.

lazylinguist · 16/05/2021 10:29

I've toyed with the idea of joining a WI, but I suspect the ones in my area would be quite set in their ways too. Fairly rural area, reasonably elderly demographic. I don't know though... maybe I should check it out!

MerylSqueak · 16/05/2021 12:42

If you have a couple of friends who want to start a group, you will get help from your local federation. I promise you that they would be very keen.

lazylinguist · 16/05/2021 14:00

Tbh I'd feel bad stepping on the toes of the existing group in my village - looking at their FB group, they are all women I see around to say hello to, but are a generation older than me (not that the age difference in itself would necessarily put me off joining their group, but their posts about what they get up to don't really fill me with enthusiasm!) .

Still, at least I should be able to rejoin the local Knit and Natter group once it opens again! I'm not much of a 'joiner' by nature, but it's been hard to make friends since we moved here. Definite lack of like-minded women my own age to hang out with. I guess that's what you get for moving to a village in a rural-ish area that lots of people rerire to though! I suspect it's partly down to the fact that not having a 'proper' job means a lack of colleagues and adult company outside my family. Wow - I sound like a right saddo Grin. At least I have you lovely lot to chat to!

lazylinguist · 16/05/2021 14:02

P.s. being a French teacher I had of course spotted the spelling oddity in your username Meryl, but obviously wouldn't have mentioned it. Grin

OP posts:
MerylSqueak · 16/05/2021 16:49

I had gone through about 500 options when trying for a quick name change. The proper spelling was taken hug I just couldn't be bothered to think about it any more Smile

MerylSqueak · 16/05/2021 17:05

Meryl Squeak is what DD has named her new toy mouse.

lazylinguist · 16/05/2021 17:32

Cute! I've name changed a fair bit over the years. Can't remember most of them, but had at least one Sherlock-related one during my phase of utter Sherlock obsession. Blush
