Omg @BookShark your Sophie is incredible! I am in awe.

I've done another quick basket and used up loads of scraps so my stash looks much more reasonable now! Thanks for the inspiration @lazylinguist 😊

Now that's given me the motivation to go back and start the fair isle jumper for me that I bought the wool for during the first lockdown 😂😂😂 I WILL bust this stash!

BookShark · 12/05/2021 21:13

Aw, thanks for all the compliments!

Sophie is about 63cm wide at the minute, so will probably be about 70cm-ish once I'm done. Not huge, but that's a combination of cotton yarn and the fact I crochet very tightly. With the benefit of hindsight, I maybe would have used a thicker yarn, as for all the effort, the end product is quite small, but then again I like the colour fade, so...

The yarn is a Scheepjes Whirl - I've seen it used in shawls/scarves as well, which I think would work well. I got the idea from seeing the Sophie's Dream blanket link but decided to do one full one instead of lots of smaller ones. But there is definitely a temptation to do more and join them to make something more usable - but I might have a break in-between!

I also like the look of the Charlotte's Dream on the same site, but I really do NOT need more blankets! Plus DS has picked his next choice of amigurumi creature (a phoenix) so I need to do that at some point.

And Buffy takes me back a bit! DH (boyfriend at the time) used to kick me out of his room at uni because I didn't appreciate it properly - he had a soft spot for Faith if I recall correctly! That's going back over 20 years though, I can't believe Buffy is that old (or that I am!).

CrochetBug · 12/05/2021 21:24

Loving the Sophie!

Charlotte's Dream is on my very long to do list. I want her for my bed because she's beautiful and my name is Charlotte Grin

Wow BookShark! That’s amazing! So intricate and lovely 😍

I had such a thing for Spike from Buffy, I haven’t watched it for years, I wonder how terrible my taste was then... Grin

Scoobygang7 · 13/05/2021 16:15

@Flavia I had a massive crush on spike then I met him and realised he was a knob. Killed any feelings I had.

Then I got a massive crush on Lindsey from Angel, have met Christian 3 times and still have a huge crush on him. He's lovely in real life.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 13/05/2021 16:54

Oh no Scooby how disappointing! I’ve got a sneaking suspension his character might be a bit of a knob if I was to rewatch though...

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 13/05/2021 18:07

Suspension? Suspicion...

lazylinguist · 13/05/2021 18:10

I was never really in the Angel or Spike camp crush-wise tbh! I like Spike best when he's imprisoned at Giles'/Xander's and when he's got the chip in his head. He's much funnier when he's the underdog! Angel is pretty but quite exasperating Grin. These days I'd probably rather have Giles than either of them (showing my age!).

Scoobygang7 · 13/05/2021 18:17

@lazylinguist yes Giles is most definitely crush material and looked younger as the series went on. Anthony is lovely in real life too.

Tolouse · 13/05/2021 18:42

That is beautiful BookShark.

I want to try Buffy on my kids too but DH says they are too young (13 and 10). What do you guys think? It's been an age since I watched it so I can't really remember.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 13/05/2021 19:27

I've just spent ages down a Buffy fan wiki rabbit hole. Apparently I only remember a tiny fraction of the plot and probably never finished watching all the series' because I don't remember any of the later stuff at all.

Mmm, yes to Giles. Having refreshed my memory Spike is not as attractive as I remember 😂

Scoobygang7 · 13/05/2021 19:34

@Tolouse 13 definitely fine, 10 year old might be OK with first few seasons. I guess it depends on maturity and how susceptible they are with finding things scary.

lazylinguist · 13/05/2021 19:59

Mine are 13 and nearly 16, @Tolouse and I have held off until now. I'd definitely say 10 is too young. It wasn't the scariness that made me wait, more the adult themes tbh.

@Scoobygang7 - get you hanging out with the famous folks! Grin I've only spoken to one- Helena Bonham Carter. I used to live in the village where her family home was. Saw her a few times, chatted once in te children's playground. She seemed very nice. Tim Burton stood on the other side of the playground looking aloof. Grin

@lazylinguist before I had my boys I used to attend 3 day conventions. So met loads of actors from mainly buffy and Angel. Along with Leverage.

lazylinguist · 14/05/2021 08:21

About to set off for my interview ! I've been awake since 4:30. Hmm Whatever the outcome, I am looking forward to a relaxing evening of knitting later. Grin

Sad Didn't get it. They said I was great and it wasn'tan easy decision, but the other candidate had more, and more recent, relevant experience and is a Head of Department.

@lazylinguist I am sorry to hear that hopefully something else will come through soon.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/05/2021 14:40

I’m sorry lazy, that sucks. Hopefully it won’t be too long until another post comes up.

Time for some therapeutic knitting, I think, or maybe yarn shopping… Wink

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 14/05/2021 14:46

Ah no, lazy. I'm sorry Wine

lazylinguist · 14/05/2021 15:02

Definitely time for some therapeutic knitting.
