I often have to frog my crochet to remove a hair I've inadvertently crocheted in. It's going to be even worse when we get a puppy...

lazylinguist · 10/05/2021 19:17

Ooh what kind of puppy are you getting, @tizwozliz?!

OP posts:
tizwozliz · 10/05/2021 19:18

A black lab - it's still gestating at the moment so it's a while off yet :-)

InTheNightWeWillWish · 10/05/2021 19:35

tizwozliz as someone with a 9 month old labrador… good luck! I’ve just sent a blanket to my friend for her little boy and told her to ignore the labrador hair Blush The fur gets everywhere and do not drop your yarn on the floor because otherwise you’re de-furring for hours and hours!

sophs29 · 10/05/2021 21:03

Labs are one of my favourite breeds! I'm extremely jealous and putting in an early request for photos please Grin
Although my 6 month old DS is like a puppy, he's crawling round and chewing everything he can get his hands on - including my slippers Grin

lucysmam · 10/05/2021 21:10

I'm glad to see I'm not the one crocheting hair into whatever I'm working on 🙄 nothing as exciting as lab fur though; usually extra long ginger hair from my 11yo, multi-toned stuff from my 14yo or my own going grey

I've been watching videos of some samoyed pups on fb; they're very bouncy little balls of fluff. I'd like one but in normal times I'm busier than now & it wouldn't be fair.

lazylinguist · 10/05/2021 21:21

Yep I get the odd dog and cat hair weaving into my WIPs. Black lab, @tizwozliz - lovely! I have a pointer, I love gundog breeds.

OP posts:
tizwozliz · 10/05/2021 21:30

I would have loved a German shorthaired pointer or a Vizsla but after lots of research it seemed like a lab was the more sensible choice.

The other half does field archery and has grand plans to train it to find lost arrows.

I've lived with 3 labs before so well acquainted with the hair!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 10/05/2021 21:39

sophs for your DS to be really be like a puppy, he needs to be eating stones too. Four times today I’ve had to fish a piece of gravel out of the puppy’s mouth. Three of those times he’s sniffed out the piece of gravel from the hiding place and stolen it when I wasn’t looking.

lucysmam my greying long hair also joins the labrador fur. My stuff is very handmade…

There are places that will collect your pet fur and spin it into yarn for you. Maybe flavia could expand on her spinning? Wink I personally don’t think it’s for me, I think I’m going to stick to yarn that didn’t take a swim in the fishing lodge yesterday…

InTheNightWeWillWish · 10/05/2021 21:46

I clearly type really slowly!

tizwozliz our training centre does scentwork training. So you could train your pup to find the lost arrows. If they’ve a gundog background too they’ll be able to retrieve them for your partner too. Fortunately we’ve never had to use our dogs scentwork to find something that has really been lost but do we do practice so if we lose the keys or phone on a walk we can find them again. DH did lose his phone on a walk once, before we got the dog. It involved a lot of retracing our steps and listening for a phone vibrating in the grass because obviously DH had left it on silent 🙄 Fortunately we found it but it would have been a lot easier with a dog.

sophs29 · 10/05/2021 21:47

@InTheNightWeWillWish oh he's a cheeky pup too - even better 😍 I never understand why dogs chew on stones 😂 my mums nearly 12 year old dog still brings them in and sucks on them 🙄

InTheNightWeWillWish · 10/05/2021 21:59

sophs I have no idea either. Our older dog tried a stone, realised it was a stone, spat it out and never ate a stone again. I think the Labrador is an eternal optimist. Maybe, just maybe, this time the stone will actually taste nice and he’ll have found some amazing treat. You just never know when that stone is going to become a treat. Definitely a cheeky pup. I’ve hidden some squeaky balls out of his way but he can smell them. I caught him earlier eyeing up the bookshelf and how he could climb up it to get the squeaky balls. He was just testing a paw on the shelf to start climbing.

Here's my boy as a teeny pup and more recently.

My new neighbour has a chocolate lab. He's beautiful. I admire him from afar as I am not a dog lover. Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 10/05/2021 22:17

It’s so kind of you to think of me InTheNight Grin

There is a woman spinning her dogs fur in one of my fb groups, unfortunately I’m allergic to animal fur so I could give instructions instead Wink

I have major dog envy. We decided on getting cats as DH is from Spain and under normal circumstances go there for a few weeks each year. We decided it wasn't fair on a dog. I love our cats but it hasn't abated the dog want one bit.

And I could probably spin a blanket out if their blooming fluff

sophs29 · 11/05/2021 07:35

Haha @InTheNightWeWillWish I can just imagine walking in the room to find a pup halfway up the bookshelf 😭😂

@lazylinguist he's absolutely gorgeous!

Yes that’s the thing with dogs, so lovely but hard if you work a lot or have holidays etc. I miss having a dog but just not in the right position to have another one at the moment! Hopefully one day.
BookShark · 12/05/2021 15:16

Another Sophie update! I've only got another 10/15 rounds to go, so the end is definitely in sight. But she's bugling in the middle, despite using the different hook sizes as recommended, so I'm hoping blocking at the end will sort it.

Someone (Sophs?) asked upthread if it was getting boring. Not really, as every round is different so you do have to concentrate (and there's been quite a bit of frogging!). But I think like any big project, after a while you start to want something different - I need to choose something quicker for my next project!

sophs29 · 12/05/2021 15:32

Wow @BookShark that is absolutely beautiful!! I love the way the colours change and shows off all the stitches!
Oh yes I see what you mean! Definitely not mindless crocheting!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 12/05/2021 16:10

Wow bookshark that looks great. I love the colour fade with it. How big is it? You were originally thinking you would need a couple of Sophie’s together but I’m guessing you fancy a change now!

That is so beautiful, @BookShark! Remind me - what yarn is it? I love the colours!

I've slowed down a bit on my Goldwing, not because I'm not enjoying it,but because we have started watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer with the dc and I'm enjoying it too much for the 4th or 5th time to be able to concentrate on Fairisle knitting Grin . On the upside, at least that means my somewhat tedious Sockhead Cowl is getting close to finished!

lucysmam · 12/05/2021 19:24

BookShark your Sophie's beautiful. How did you decide on your yarn? I keep looking at these lovely, big, CAL's but then I have no idea what yarn to pick!

lazy, I used to love Buffy! I wonder if my two would enjoy it.

I started a mood octopus for dd2 (who else 🤣) last night. It's working up quite quickly & a welcome break from both my WIP's that are looooooong rows.

My friend called to sign some Guides cheques today; she's going to have a go at knitting tonight after being inspired by some knitted dolls made by someone she works with.
