What beautiful work myshitisreal I’m always a little bit sad when i’ve got to the end of something complicated because I love the process of doing it so much!

Good luck with the interview lazy

lazylinguist · 09/05/2021 12:30

How weird, Flavia! Tbh it's never even occurred to me that that would be a thing!

Thank you all for the good luck wishes. I'm less nervous than I might normally be, because it feels like a very friendly school, I've met the Head and liked her, and there is not even going to be an MFL specialist judging my lesson, as the current (temporary) only MFL teacher is an English teacher unqualified in French. I've started the sleeve on my pattern test. I'm not 100% convinced on the colours, and not sure I'll have enough grey to do the body too. So I'll either do some of it in the blue or add a 3rd colour to the bottom. Haven't decided yet.

Good luck with your interview lazy, I have everything crossed for you 🤞 you do seem very positive about this one; hopefully that's a good sign!

I'm in trouble with dd2 for concentrating on something for me, & not her blanket so have told her I'll concentrate on growing that this week Grin. Few rows of my jackety thingy today first though!

Myshitisreal · 09/05/2021 15:17

@perdishmystery sending warm hugs.

Appreciate the kind words. I know it's not "mumsnet style" but it is mine.

Hoping the interviews go well

@lucysmam what jacket are you making? I've been trying to find s nice hooded slouchy Cardigan to make

petridishmystery · 09/05/2021 16:48

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Think it was mostly hormonal so am feeling better now. I love having this thread to scroll through, it’s so soothing!

lucysmam · 09/05/2021 17:07

@Myshitisreal it's vaguely based on the pic - someone posted it on a fb crochet group a few weeks ago.

Plan is to make it like that shape but rows of dc, alternated with sc1 ch1. & then add some shells/flowers or similar as a border & a chain belt with some beads. I'll take a pic of how far I've got later on so you can see.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some nice beads to go with the Poundland sparkly pink yarn on my belt for it? Or where to look? I haven't looked for beads in years but nothing in my stash is quite right. I'm picturing either pink or clear sparkly ones.

May I join you please? I'm a fairly novice knitter, having taught myself a year ago. I'm mostly having to take a break as I have some kind of tendonitis at the moment. I'm really missing it and fancy chatting while I can't do it.

I'm very slowly making a shawl in very simple lace, which it has to be as the yarn I'm using is very difficult to undo. I'm not enjoying it much but I've told myself that I won't buy new yarn until I have used up things I've bought already. The yarn is Fyberspates Cumulus. It's my first Fuzz y wool and I am not keen. I'm wondering if Rowan Kidsilk is easier. It seems very popular.

I hope the interviews went well. I'm waiting to hear about one myself. I used to be a teacher but now work as a TA on a temporary contract. Waiting to hear if me or the other temp has got a permanent contract. He's great but I do hope it's me!

Tolouse · 09/05/2021 17:10

This is my shawl so far

Struggling to finish off any crochet projects as I have no series to watch. I can only crochet if I'm watching TV at the same time, preferably nothing too taxing Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/05/2021 17:59

Hi Tolouse, lovely shawl! I think all fuzzy yarn is a nightmare to undo, drops kidsilk is the same... Hope you get good news on the job, this thread can be a lucky charm for teaching jobs then Smile

You could try here lucysmam abacusbeads.com/ it's the only bead shop I know!

I've been watching all sorts of random stuff on YouTube lately Liz I haven't found anything to get into aside from the sewing bee.

lucysmam · 09/05/2021 18:25

@Myshitisreal not the best photo but this is the pattern I'm doing. It's working up fast & not frustrating me...hopefully I'll crack the jumper when I finish this!

Thanks for the link Flavia, I'll have a look and see what they have :)

Hi Tolouse. Your shawl's lovely, it looks nice and soft 😊

Your shawl looks very pretty and soft, @Toulouse. Sorry to hear about the tendonitis - what a pain!

sophs29 · 09/05/2021 19:54

@Myshitisreal 😲 literally..I haven't even got the words for your blanket! It's incredible!

@Tolouse that shawl looks lovely and cosy but I can imagine it's a right pain in the bum!

Kate105 · 09/05/2021 20:09

Hi @Tolouse welcome! Lovely shawl but looks far too complex for me... I’m also a TV knitter so I like easy things I don’t have to concentrate on too much.

I have been a good girl today and finished off my two baby jumpers 🙌🏻 Feeling very smug and relieved that they’re no longer WIPs 😂 now back to the fun stuff!

Beautiful jumpers, Kate105!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/05/2021 22:15

Oh they're gorgeous Kate I really love the yellow one!

I finished my spinning project, I was trying to create a replica of John Arbon's Devonia DK using their fibre to see if I could do it. It worked but I'm not sure if I'd bother doing a 3ply in future, 2ply is so much easier and quicker.

petridishmystery · 09/05/2021 22:48

@Kate105 those jumpers are so lovely!

I have just remembered something which in all honesty is only loosely related to knitting but it made me laugh and I felt like sharing.

My ex broke up with me about a year and a half ago, and in all the stuff of mine he returned was a blanket I was working on that I kept at his. Hadn’t looked at it in months then a couple of months ago decided to get it out and do a bit. Noticed something sticking out the yarn - when I pulled it out and examined it, I realised it was one of ex’s beard hairs (yes definitely a beard hair!!)

I texted my friend to tell her and AS A JOKE said I’d put it away somewhere safe. Bless her, she texted me back in minutes like “you know, I’m not sure that that is the healthiest way to deal with this” 😅😅😅 the break up hasn’t been great but I didn’t know I’d been coping so bad that she believed me when I said I had put a blimming BEARD HAIR in a safe space!! I obvs reassured her I was joking but I was in stitches, imagining her imagining me carefully putting this beard hair away. Where would I even put it, was only about 2cm long? Obvs it just went in the bin.

Anyway only loosely yarn related as I said but popped into my head for some reason and gave me the giggles all over again.

BookShark · 09/05/2021 23:19

petridishmystery lovely that you can laugh at that. We were cleaning out the understairs cupboard last weekend and found a lump of ginger fair - our ginger cat died 4 years ago! And I suspect my current WIP will be full of black cat hair as my mini black cat insists on sitting on my knee every evening (she loves a blanket), whereas her bigger brother has no interest at all.

So many lovely projects underway. I'm gradually making progress with Sophie - hopefully just 2/3 weeks. And then I have so many ideas for what to start next!

All the teachers, best of luck with interviews. And respect to you - I can't imagine anything worse! Teaching DS during lockdown was bad enough, I certainly wouldn't want to do a whole class.

petridishmystery · 09/05/2021 23:34

@BookShark we still have a clump of fur in a test tube that our vet gave to us before one of our cats was PTS 11 years ago - we didn’t really want it as she wasn’t the cleanest cat but it felt a bit heartless to say no, and now we don’t have the heart to throw it away so we just hide it and resurfaces every few years

BookShark · 09/05/2021 23:42

Oh, you make me feel better! DH insisted on getting the ashes from the last two cats - several years later, they're still hidden at the back of his wardrobe, because apparently one day he'll bury them in the garden. I've decided not to get involved...

Anyway, on a more cheery subject, if anyone is in the "I've got too many blankets but still want to make more" stage, I can highly recommend liners for cat baskets. Admittedly the vet gave me a strange look last time, but they do make the baskets look a lot cosier!

Tolouse · 10/05/2021 11:20

Thank you all for your welcome. The shawl is really pretty easy apart from not being able to undo mistakes. Disappointing about Rowan Kidsilk @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack . Love your yarn. I dream of doing something like that.

I'm a bit in awe of people who can do meat colour work like that @Kate105. Really nice.

Beard hair? My DH has a beard but I'm not sure I'd recognise a hair. It must have been full on. Funny story. Love your friend's concern@petridishmystery

@Tolouse well if it wasn’t a beard hair the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about so I’m going with beard!

Starting a patchwork...thing, I want to be trendy and do a patchwork jumper like I keep seeing on TikTok but I might just do a blanket. Thought it would be good sewing practice.
