Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

Thanks to this thread I have just spent my birthday Amazon vouchers on some Polychromos pencils (to go with the two tins of Derwents I already have, I think I have a problem Blush), Zifflin's Doodle Invasion and three Zen Colouring books; Animals, Ocean and Mandalas.

Thank goodness for Prime, I can't wait until tomorrow Grin

I've read this whole thread today and after looking at all the wonderful art on here, I might have to join in! Will pop into Waterstones next time I'm in town and look for some good books/pencils (may have to steal borrow DD's Usborne colouring book and crayons for the time being Grin )

Its taking me ages to do mine, I'm finding the ones which are less patterns and more pictures better to do. The monthly magazine ive been getting has free postcards to colour this month which even I should be able to complete - I'm still doing the first picture in the first magazine! It's much harder to do than I expected!

FeelingSmurfy · 26/07/2015 17:40

I prefer pictures with a pattern as I can choose colours and then stick to it, I get muddled and stressed when I have to find another colour that matches the ones I'm using but is not too similar so you can see the difference, because I reach a point where all the other colours are already touching that bit

FeelingSmurfy · 26/07/2015 17:41

Pollyanna which book is that, I love those pictures, what is the paper like to work with

PollyannaWhittier · 26/07/2015 17:52

Smurfy the first ones are from this book which I bought in France, but is available on amazon uk. the paper is lovely to colour on - smooth enough for the colour to go on evenly but not shiny. (Anyone going on holiday to France this summer, go into the book section in a big Leclerc hypermarket - they have SO MANY grown up colouring books !)
The others are from this ebook and I printed them out myself

Best pencil sharpener ?

Becca19962014 · 27/07/2015 22:15

I have a metal two hole pencil sharpner from a stationers I use, you can also get one hole metal sharpners as well. I think WHSmiths also sell them. Once I started using one ive never looked back they are brilliant.

SmartAlecMetalGit · 27/07/2015 22:19

I like the Faber-Castell Trio sharpener. I've also got an old two hole Derwent one that is good but they don't seem to do it anymore.

Testarossa1 · 28/07/2015 14:57

I got a pencil sharpener free with my faber castell eco pencils. It sharpens them well.

Just started my first page in Animorphia, the one which it says this book belongs to.....

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 28/07/2015 15:17

Here's another one from secret garden! All done with three pencils (cadmium red, grey and black polychromos), a uni poach ink pen and a black derwent pastel over Tim holtz masks.

That will be a uni posca pen, not poach! Flipping phone!

Thank you, I'm never pleased with them as I always think I could do better!

Out of interest, does anyone else use spectrum noir pencils? I bought a set and love how they go on, but am fed up of them breaking when I sharpen them. What am I doing wrong? My polychromos don't break.......

SmartAlecMetalGit · 28/07/2015 20:41

I've just got myself three of these e-books, I got Abstract, Groovy Animals and Sugar Skulls. I was actually looking for free colouring pages but was drawn in by her own coloured examples Grin

addictedtosugar · 29/07/2015 08:34

Hello ladies.
I had a very disappointing holiday. Decided I should just take one set of pencils for me and kids, so picked up the pack of 36 Wilkos pencils we'd been given recently. The colours are soooo pale. Most disappointed. Buy some decent pencils. Don't need to be as expensive as the polychromes, unless you need them. But these seem to colour OK don't need sharpening too often, and I've not snapped a lead yet, with my carefully selected sharpener from the 101 plastic ones we have lying around.

Happy colouring.

TheNinjaGooseIsHooking · 29/07/2015 13:54

just found you here Smile I got given the enchanted forest book and a set of the pencils addictedtosugar linked to for my birthday. It's such a lovely book I'm wary of touching it Grin I've got a cheap book from Tiger and some cheap tesco pencils until I'm a little happier with myself, it's very addictive!

Testarossa1 · 30/07/2015 15:29

New work in progress from Animorphia. I've just had my marco raffine pencils delivered and have to say they are lovely, super smooth and seem to blend well. That's what I'm using on this picture.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 30/07/2015 17:05

Oooo Testa, that's a gorgeous colour. Feels very aztec-ish!

A word of warning, I bought 2 copies of the Enchanted Forest today from sainsburys, one for me and one for my mum. Only a fiver each....but the print quality is dreadful. Going to take them back tomorrow as there's a few pages in each one that are faded and look dreadful. Oh well, ordered from Amazon instead Grin

Thanks ALovelyTrain. That is from birds and butterflies by Alice Chadwick (my latest purchase and my last!)I much prefer the pictures in this to the other two books I bought originally - the secret garden and enchanted forest.I just find those rather tedious for trying to experiment with shading but that's just me!There are some lovely samples on here and it's lovely to see other people's work .All look so individual :)

seoda24 · 31/07/2015 00:20

I have just enlarged your well and I love it! the flowers are so pretty and well done on doing them so perfect!
