I am Rippling! (crochet related)

I have finally made a start on a blanket which I've had planned for months. I bit the bullet and faced my fear of starting something that is so big and has such a large foundation chain but I have gone with the Attic24 Ripple blanket

Mine is less bright --and rather more like a scarf]]

Madame are you following the Attic24 instructions? I printed the whole lot off and made myself go thru each step very carefully and slowly. Normally I'm too impatient but it really paid off. The photos in particular were v helpful. And I'm crap- a beginner at crochet really. Good luck.

My first few rows are wonky at the edges. I've solved this by ensuring that the pair of 2DC increases always sit in the middle of the 2DC increases of the row below. If they don't, there is generally an error in the previous section and if you've been making a check every time you get to the increases, there won't be too much to undo!

At the start of a new row, I count back from the 2DC increases to make sure I'm starting off correctly and I always put a stitch marker in the edge if I put my blanket down after finishing a row so that I know which side I need to start from next.

Hi all, thanks, yes am using attic24's pattern. I think my problem is all in the ends of the rows, but can't for the life of me figure out how or why.
I bought a lovely new hook today so maybe, just maybe I'll be better......

Will report back :)

MadameMessy · 14/04/2012 22:11

I've cracked it :) and am now on row no 9.
Panicked a bit when it came down to the foundation chain so am doing a cushion cover first :o

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/04/2012 07:57

I've finished my rippling! Grin

here

I am SO proud of myself!!! I know this is a gift for a friends baby but it was a totally selfish project as I have wanted to do a ripple blanket for ages but have never had a good enough reason.

I'm now putting a straight edge on it as then I may or may not add a wiggly border.

Best part is I should be able to get it finished before the baby arrives.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 08:04

Ooooh, that's lovely :)

MadameMessy, I know what you mean by the foundation chain! I am so glad i faced my fear though :)

OP posts:
Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/04/2012 08:18

I agree! The foundation chain business is enough I make you want to poke the crochet hook into someone's eye! I had to do mine several times before I got it right enough Blush
At least it's not a massive amount to frog if it all goes wrong. But still bloody annoying!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/04/2012 08:18

Soupy - how is your ripple growing? :)

SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 08:24

Um... it's bigger.

For some reason I can't see the finished blanket! I click on the link and I get a weird flickr page that isn't 'right' links all look wrong.

I do use flickr so if you want pm me your user name and I can see it that way!

MadameMessy · 15/04/2012 10:05

Oh its lovely!
I finished one side last night, so if i do the other side tonight I can start the blanket this week :)

SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 17:49

Ok, this is the whole thing (so far!) and this is a close up.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 17:49

I passed on the Attic 24 link to a friend at work and her sister is due a baby in Oct and their Gran has started one! In I think similar colours to yours SoupDragon, she is only using 3 colours though

MadameMessy · 15/04/2012 18:25

it's lovely soupy :)
can't show you mine yet, but here are the colours I'm using I have ten colours....
My Mum saw it yesterday, and is in love, think I'll be commisioned to make one for her too!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/04/2012 18:58

Madame- Love the rainbow colours! Is it stylecraft dk you're using? It's what I've got and is really nice - and a bargain price!

Soupy- that's lush! :)

Purple - I'm in Flickr as mrsflux. Try that. No idea why it works for others but not you

I'm going to carry on squaring mine off and then put a border on it. Maybe just a granny square row thingy. Hmm I am very technical with this crochet. Blush

PurpleKittyKnitting · 15/04/2012 19:07

Arrrgghh!! I still can't seem to find you on flickr!! I am lilacden. I found a mrs flux but no photos of any crochet!!

SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 19:22

Does this work for you?

OP posts:
PurpleKittyKnitting · 15/04/2012 19:27

Yes! Hurrah!! :o Love the colours!!

PurpleFrog · 16/04/2012 13:44

I have just caught up with this thread again. There are some beautiful blankets on the go. MadameMessy - thanks for linking to Little Tin Bird's blog. I can now compare granny stripes and ripples side-by-side - and I think rippling is definitely the way to go. I like how she has filled in the triangles at the ends - I must admit the wavy edge was the main thing I wasn't sure about the ripple blanket. Looks like I might have to do some yarn shopping! Grin

SoupDragon · 16/04/2012 13:54

I am pleased about the Tin Bird link too because of the border :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 16/04/2012 17:20

This blog gives slightly more detailed instructions For squaring the ripple.
I've done a mixture of tin bird and this ones method.

Oh they're just lovely. Well done. I'm not very good at big projects so am very impressed.

SoupDragon · 18/04/2012 07:02

I'm not convinced I have the attention span for big projects :o
