I am Rippling! (crochet related)

I have finally made a start on a blanket which I've had planned for months. I bit the bullet and faced my fear of starting something that is so big and has such a large foundation chain but I have gone with the Attic24 Ripple blanket

Mine is less bright --and rather more like a scarf]]

I'm using Sirdar Simply Recycled Aran for my ripple blanket in natural and pink. It feels lovely and it's almost 30 inches deep so it is coming together quickly.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 24/03/2012 09:44

It's growing! Grin

Thanks to two days off sick with tonsillitis I am almost 3/4 of the way there. here

SoupDragon · 24/03/2012 10:00

Oooh - lovely :o

Look at all those ends you've got to darn in... I must confess i have been doing mine every 5 row or so to ensure I don't have a whole evening of end sewing to look forward to.

Sssh soupy! :)
I am ignoring them!
Or maybe I will say they are extra sensory elements to stimulate friend's baby's development! Grin
I think there will be nearly 100 when it's done! Shock

SoupDragon · 24/03/2012 12:33

Mine is going to be about 6ft long if I ever finish it. I do not want that many pesky ends to darn in at once!

I've just changed colour and this time I'm working the ends in as I go. Just sort of crocheting on top of them iyswim. In going todo another row and then see if I can tell the difference between the two methods of finishing.

SoupDragon · 25/03/2012 15:07

I've done a mixture - I tend to crochet over the finishing end of the previous colour and darn in the end of the new colour to make sure it's secure.

How's it going soupy? Looks fab! I've been stashing some Sublime Merino for a blanket but can't commit to a style.

SoupDragon · 26/03/2012 22:35

It's looking good although I've been side tracked by a short length of bunting, daffodils and unravelling a pig ugly blanket to remake.

It now resembles a table runner rather than a scarf!

Real daffs or crafty ones? What sort of bunting did you make? I got a bird table for my birthday this week. Am tempted to crochet some mini bunting for it...Grin

SoupDragon · 27/03/2012 07:16

These daffodils and this bunting]] :o I chose that bunting because I wanted long thin triangles.

The best bit is that, in my lax world, both daffodils and bunting can be put down as chores as they are to finish off the downstairs shower room that I've just decorated :) I didn't want to put a blind back up at the small, frosted, not-overlooked window and the bunting just finishes it off - it's only 6 bunts long.

Loving the idea of a bunting decorated bird table :)

Both so pretty, my ravelry queue gets longer and longer!

SoupDragon · 27/03/2012 08:00

Oh, I know - I've had to stop idly browsing and only look when I have something specific I want to make.

Dillytante · 27/03/2012 20:23

Ooh nice! I'm very into daffodils at the moment. Did you see the bracelet I got for Mother's day? Gratuitous link to my blog alert

SoupDragon · 28/03/2012 10:52

Very nice :)

I've not blogged my daffodils yet because I'm still making them but the bunting and blanket are here in my crappy oft abandoned blog :o

Hey ripplers! :)

I'm getting towards the end of mine and am starting to think about whether it should have an edge.
But I have no idea how???? Confused

Are you edging yours?
If so how?
I would love some instructions - in very simple terms Grin

SoupDreggon · 11/04/2012 15:02

I think mine will need an edge but I haven't got to the stage where I have to worry about it yet!

SoupDreggon · 11/04/2012 15:03

Generally the first thing I do is put a row of single crochet all the way round and take it from there.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 11/04/2012 15:14

That sounds good soupy.
Are you going to leave yours wiggly or straighten it out?
I'm ok with instructions for crochet but not so good at free styling. Confused

SoupDreggon · 11/04/2012 15:21

In my head, I think I"m going to put a row of single crochet down the rough edges and then look at it.

I think the wavy ends need to stay wavy, but the edges need to be neatened up - possibly with 2 rows of SC in the cream colour I'm using. I'm not sure I could face doing, say, 3 stitches in each row colour and then changing! I don't think I'm going to faff about with scalloped edges although I may change my mind if it looks crap when I've done the SC rows :)

Stitchthis · 12/04/2012 06:43

Hey soupy I didn't realise you had a blog! Off to snoop....

SoupDragon · 12/04/2012 07:48

God - don't get excited. It's full of shite witterings :o I was never any good at keeping a diary when I was younger either!

OP posts:
Stitchthis · 12/04/2012 13:22

thats why i do my blog - I was rubbish at keeping a diary but always wanted to...Kenneth Williams is my muse..... Shite Witterings (a title waiting to be used?) are imho a welcome refreshing change. Things can frequently get a tad, ahem, worryingly cute - Have you seen the 'celebrity craft-beaconess' thread?!??!

MadameMessy · 13/04/2012 01:05

Right, I've been inspired by the lovely Lucy and you lot on here, and have bought an absolute shit load lots and lots of stylecraft DK to ripple my lovely blanky out of......but I cant fucking do it!!!
I've followed the instructions of practicing on a smaller scale, but I can't figure out why one side is lovely and straight, and one side is pointing out after only 3 rows! Guys, help me, I want a lovely blanky :(

angelpantser · 13/04/2012 01:26

Madame (I'm working from memory here and is based on a 14 stitch repeating pattern).

The ripple pattern that I am following has a 3chain turning stitch and a treble into the same stitch. () Then a treble in each of the next 4 stitches. Then treble-2-together twice. Then a treble into each of the next 4 stitches. Then 2 trebles into each of the next 2 stitches. Repeat from () until you get to the last set of pattern repeats. Here you treble in each of the next 4 stitches. Then treble-2-together twice. Then a treble into each of the next 4 stitches. You should then be left with just one stich. Work 2 trebles into this stitch.

Hopefully this will work. Grin
