I have finally made a start on a blanket which I've had planned for months. I bit the bullet and faced my fear of starting something that is so big and has such a large foundation chain but I have gone with the Attic24 Ripple blanket

Mine is less bright --and rather more like a scarf]]

But it's easy! Really it is!

I just need to get round doing it as well as all the stuff in my queue to knit!....may give it a little practise one time! I am getting some wool soon to a big log cabin effect blanket

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/03/2012 16:59

I love how her instructions are very clear and easy to follow

nickelhasababy · 10/03/2012 17:37

yes, they are, aren't they!
It's almost as good as watching a video of it.

Well, I finished the humungous granny square blanket this morning (ignoring children, DH, pets and getting dressed to do so Grin) and have made a start on a red, white and blue ripple blanket for ds2's bed. V patriotic.

Fortunately DH thinks I'm some kind of marvellous magician and doesn't tut or mention ironing/cooking/other mundane chores but rather sits there wth eyes wide making gasps of admiration at my crochet work, even foundation chains, so I can crochet till my fingers cramp up. Bless him.

Even ds1, who is 16 and therefore supposed to be moody/grunty was impressed and has even requested a blanket for his own bed.

I love this crocheting lark! Grin

PS PurpleKitty- what's a log cabin effect blanket? I like the sound of that!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/03/2012 18:01

This is the one I am going to do, but you can get ones not done in and L shape for each colour, just strips of colour

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/03/2012 18:03

MiladyGardenia · 10/03/2012 18:29

Ooh. I like that one too.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 10/03/2012 18:31

It is in an old issue of Simply Knitting but you can get similar on Ravelry

SoupDragon · 10/03/2012 19:12

Oooh, I like the log cabin blanket.

Curses... my head is all full of ripple blanket now. I've tried working on the fair isle hat I'm making, I've finished a sock monkey I started yesterday, I'm now working on a different crochet blanket, and all I can think of is what's in my cupboard that might make a nice ripple blanket. There are a couple of things, but not in massive quantities, so if I start one, that means more yarn purchases which I really can't justify.

SoupDragon, this is all your fault!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 10/03/2012 23:35

You. Are. An. Enabler.

I need to learn to MN with my toes so I can knit (and learn to crochet) & MN at the same time!

I was pondering colour schemes before I even got out of bed this morning. I think it's out of my hands now, I'm powerless to resist.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 11/03/2012 08:54

If I order more wool my OH will go loopy! Well I do need to do another order soon. Ordered what I could for my log cabin blanket but the lilac wasn't all in stock so I ordered what I could, (then noticed the next day it was in stock!) Dereamores have said the stuff has been dispatched but I haven't received it so they are hopefully going to replace the order this week. I need to order the lilac and get some wool to do the crochet bath mat.

When I did this order he was saying 'haven't you got enough wool?!' Just doesn't understand!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 11/03/2012 09:01

Donkey Grin

Purple - what he doesn't know wont hurt him?? This old wool... I've had it aaaaaaaaaaaaaages....

PurpleKittyKnitting · 11/03/2012 09:06

We did a bit of a tidy up of a cupboard in the hall that has some drawers in it that I store my wool in (just those plastic drawer thing but it is semi organised! 3 drawers, 4ply in one, DK in another and chunky in the bottom) Plus we were finding bags of it, I just said all wool, just shove it in this - holding out a big shopper type bag. Oh I have special 4ply sock wool in a little bag of it's own and a bag for the next thing I am going to do for myself in the lounge and loads of bags at the side of the sofa with various bits in Blush

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 11/03/2012 09:07

... right ... so he'll never know how long you've had it Grin

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 11/03/2012 09:09

Either that or you have to stop working/looking after children/housework/cooking/shopping and simply knit/crochet until you get your stash down to a respectable level ... see there are simple solutions to most problems Grin

PurpleKittyKnitting · 11/03/2012 09:12

Ha ha I was just about to say something about pulling the wool over his eyes!! :o

He was good when I was choosing the colours for the blanket, I wanted him to have a bit of a say in it seeing as it will be for our bed but he just said for me to decide!!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 11/03/2012 09:14

yes work, paid and unpaid gets in the way of my knitting and crocheting ambitions!!

I heard an acronym about wool, can't quite remember all of it but it is SABLE, something about Stash (can't remember what the A is for) Beyond Life Expectancy
