Woolly Garlands for Cupoftea's beautiful girls. Knitters and crocheters needed.

You may have been following the progress of Cupoftea?s beautiful daughter, Beatrice Primrose.
This project is to make garlands for Cupoftea?s daughters, to include the flowers in all their names and other lovely things. We would appreciate your help.

The idea is to make some garlands similar to this woolly one.

However, we would like to include the following:

Bees for Beatrice
Primroses
Violets and Daisies for Beatrice?s sisters
Flowers
Any decorative motifs
Triangular bunting that we can stitch crochet motifs onto (size to be confirmed)

If you are a knitter wanting to make bunting, garter stitch is preferable as it will lie flatter.

Unlike the blanket projects, these woolly things can be made from any wool.

I will post more details including sizes and links to patterns shortly.

Please sign up if you?d like to contribute.

Very, that sounds brilliant. Any chance you could add a couple of daisies to the list for today? Smile

GetOn, not too late. Welcome aboard.

Ria, anything would be fantastic. I'm churning out triangles quite quickly so if you could do some more flowers, that's great.

Conflug, I'll be in touch very soon Thanks.

I can crochet some things.

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 07:17

Okey dokey, Dilly! What do you fancy making?

Morning lovely Knots. Can you remind me what size a triangle should be please?! I think it was 5" across, it's more how long it should be. I think the blue one is possibly too long.

I'm going to find my nice Laydee on YouTube this afternoon for a slip stitching tutorial. Confused Grin

VeryLittleGravitas · 03/10/2011 08:59

Yup, did 2 daises last night. I'm doing 2 of everything apart from the leaves...you have 8 of those.

Will try and work out a pattern for bees today...do you want a flat one or amigurumi?

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 09:12

Your choice, Very. Either would be great. Thanks. I think there are a few bee patterns on Ravelry.

Morning Piste! 5" across the top. 5-6 1/2" down. Good luck with the slip stitching.

I was on the other thread and have done 1x crochet baby bee to send. Knotty I will PM you.

Conflugenglugen · 03/10/2011 09:45

Ok, Knotty - I'll keep an eye out for a pm ...

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 10:10

Conflug, I've PMed you back.

Knotty, are you suggesting skpo at the start of the alternate rows? I suppose it would be neater than k2tog.

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 11:46

Welli, I am no expert on the knitting front. Just thought slipping would give a smoother edge, especially for those who are fairly new to knitting.

LadyWellian · 03/10/2011 11:50

Hey, don't go casting me as an expert Grin. I'm not disagreeing, just clarifying so that if I do get round to any of these so-called 'bunts' mine will not stand out as messier than others!

GentleOtter · 03/10/2011 12:46

Could you PM me with the address to send them to, please?

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 12:46

Compared to my knitting, you are an expert! Grin

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 12:47

Will do that now, GO.

Right I've done one greeny/grey bunt with a purple clematis attached, second bunt is almost done & I'm going to try crocheting a flower for that one.

Knotty do you have a preference for more bunts or more flowers? I'm not sure what people have promised you so far, and I'm ok with doing either.

GentleOtter · 03/10/2011 13:32

Thank you. Smile

Piste, I've been increasing from the point, using Knotty's second simple pattern. Start with one stitch, then increase on each end, knitting a few rows in between.

It's my first attempt at anything not square and improving with each bunt.
My first edges were ragged but if I remember to tighten at the end of each row it's better. Not quite up to the speed of a gazelle yet though, but getting there Grin

KnottyLocks · 03/10/2011 14:23

Ophelia! I haven't got a blooming clue at the moment. Grin
What you've done sounds gorgeous, so keep going!

Piste, stuff the slip stitch if it's befuddling you. Do what you know. Perfection isn't what we're aiming for. Like the blankets, it's about the thought behind it.

We like character Grin

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/10/2011 14:33

Just as well I can do character then Knotty Grin

LadyWellian · 03/10/2011 14:54

Pistey if it's what I'm thinking (in my world it's an skpo) then you slip the first stitch on to the right hand needle instead of knitting it (best to put the needle in from right to left so it doesn't twist). Then you knit the second stitch, then pick up the stitch you slipped (i.e. stick the needle in it) and pass it over the one you just knitted as if you were casting off. Voila, having 'lost' the slipped stitch, you now have one less stitch on your knitting.

It's often written in patterns as 'sl1, k1, psso' (slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over - that was a question on University Challenge a few weeks back), or skpo for short.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/10/2011 15:26

So, instead of knit two together you are actually casting off one stitch on each end to decrease?

Is that what you mean?

Pistey lies down again, because her head is spinning Grin

DonaUmamiPeron · 03/10/2011 16:01

I shall endeavour to make some crocheted flowers, though I can only crochet made-up things from my head, which means it takes me forever to get something sensible. My single square for Edgar's blanket took about 6 attempts! Can't follow patterns as my Nan taught me how to crochet and I don't know which stitch is which!

SoupDragon · 03/10/2011 17:20

I imagine that if we end up with more decorations than bunts, they can just be sewn onto the ribbon part.
