Woolly Garlands for Cupoftea's beautiful girls. Knitters and crocheters needed.

You may have been following the progress of Cupoftea?s beautiful daughter, Beatrice Primrose.
This project is to make garlands for Cupoftea?s daughters, to include the flowers in all their names and other lovely things. We would appreciate your help.

The idea is to make some garlands similar to this woolly one.

However, we would like to include the following:

Bees for Beatrice
Primroses
Violets and Daisies for Beatrice?s sisters
Flowers
Any decorative motifs
Triangular bunting that we can stitch crochet motifs onto (size to be confirmed)

If you are a knitter wanting to make bunting, garter stitch is preferable as it will lie flatter.

Unlike the blanket projects, these woolly things can be made from any wool.

I will post more details including sizes and links to patterns shortly.

Please sign up if you?d like to contribute.

SDTG, that is marvellous Grin I think you should stop right there and wear it as it is. Like a mayoress Grin

And your lovely woolly things arrived today. Gorgeous. Star

What the yarn you used for the flowers? It's lovely.

The snowflake cards is what I have in my head for my Christmas cards this year. That and a dodgy lino print...if I don't hack too much of my hand away with the tools.

I'm glad the parcel arrived safely. I will go and dig out the ball bands for the flowers yarn - off hand I can't remember what it is.

The grand plan for the poncho is that it becomes the thing I can fling on over whatever I am wearing, when I get cold, and inbetween times, it can be flung over the arm of the sofa for people to admire nonchalant-like! Grin And as I live in Scotland, there are plenty of times when I feel chilly and need another layer.

If you hack too much out of your hands, make sure you do it in a pretty pattern, and handprint rather than lino printing, perhaps? Grin

Great poncho :o
I assume you will add a wolef to the back?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/10/2011 19:10

Do you know where I can find a crochet pattern for a wolef? Though the poncho is just crochet round and round in circles, so a wolef might be a little difficult.

D'you know, dh won't let me have a baby wolef of my own? How mean is that! [hshock]

KnottyLocks · 20/10/2011 19:48

Very mean indeed. Stick one on your Christmas list: Santa will understand.

You'll have to make a separate crochet wolef and stitch it on.

Hahahaha, I can just see SDTG going round with a 3D wolef clinging to the back of her poncho. Her DSs would love that.

SDTG - fab work, btw. I'm a big fan of mixing textures. A long, long time ago when I was a student I knitted a 'random' jumper out of whatever I had or could lay my hands on - some thick, some thin, some fluffy and the odd embroidered daisy. It was fab and ended up oddly trendy as it was the early 1990s when anything goed.

SoupDragon · 20/10/2011 22:03

This will sit flat on the poncho.

In hope you read Korean or whatever language it's in though :o

There was a perfect looking item on Ravelry called "mystic Spirit Warrior" which I think would be right up your street. However, it was $9.99

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/10/2011 22:43

OOoooohhh - that flat one comes with a chart - so when I can read crochet charts, I can have a go at it - though at my current rate of progress, it might be quicker for me to learn Korean!! I love the 3D wolef too.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/10/2011 19:38

Am loving the poncho!

You will have to update your photo as you progress, especially when you've made your wolf Grin

ShakeThyGoryKnottyLocks · 24/10/2011 19:21

If any of you were involved with Whatevertheweather's blanket, you may like to see the finished blanket

I'm hoping to use the same flickr account for the garlands, once I'm a bit better organised. Half-term, isn't it?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2011 00:05

That is so beautiful, Knotty - it is a work of art, and everyone involved should be so proud. I love the way you've put it together too - are the squares crocheted together, to get that lovely raised decorative seam?

Amazing.

ShakeThyGoryKnottyLocks · 25/10/2011 07:54

SDTG, I did crochet it all together - it hides a multitude [hgrin].

Actually, I think it's easier than stitching as although the squares are 6", there is such a variation in tension and stretch and size the crochet allows for the difference in a way stitching wouldn't.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2011 10:17

That's very interesting to know, Knotty. I just finished a blanket for some friends who've had their first baby, and even though I knitted all the squares myself, they weren't all uniform in size Blush - and sewing them together was a challenge! I did crochet round the edge, though - that seemed easier than knitting a border and sewing it on - especially given my 'talent' at measuring! Blush

DeliriousTante · 25/10/2011 19:12

That's amazing knotty, well done :)

RatherBeKnownAsALooseHooker · 25/10/2011 22:31

SDTG - I had the joy Hmm of taking DD shopping today , so ended up in places like Forever 21 and TopShop and there are loads of ponchos this season Grin You are bang on trend there, so keep crocheting!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/10/2011 12:01

Me - on trend??? Wow!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 26/10/2011 12:11

Have to say - I'm tempted to have a crack at a poncho like that myself, but not sure a)my yarn stocks are up to it or b)that they would colour coordinate so well even if i did have enough!

which stitches have u used so far?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/10/2011 14:10

I started off with a ring of foundation chain, then used mainly double and treble crochet. I've put on scallops and bobbles, and a sort of thick, fringe-effect, and am doing some filet lace style at the moment. I'm using lots of different shades of green, blue, pink and purple - not colour coordinated as such, but more of a mad selection. And the nice thing is that if I see a yarn I like, I can just get one ball or skein and do a little bit of poncho with it.

ShakeThyGoryKnottyLocks · 27/10/2011 07:32

SDTG, you'll have to get a move on or ponchos will back off-trend again [hgrin]

Unless you wait for the next revival.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 27/10/2011 07:44

And you managed to crochet into the scallops did you? I tend to use those as an edging on things and hadn't thought of doing another row on top!

And I remember about four or five years ago trying to buy some mahoosive needles to knit a blanket or chunky scarf or something (can't remember what size, but big buggers) and being told that all the big needles had sold out because people were knitting ponchos.

I just think a poncho would be wicked to keep this bump covered once it gets colder, hrm... Might have to have a go through my stash later and dig out all the one-balled-bstrds... as it were.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/10/2011 10:09

Yes - I managed to crochet into the scallops, but to be honest, I was just making it up as I went along, and I have no idea now how I did it (or whether a proper crocheter would have an apoplectic fit at the heresy I was perpetrating).

You definitely need to go through your stash and start crocheting - that way if the poncho trend passes before we get them finished, you and I can be the vanguard of bringing them back. Trendsetters, that's us!
