Woolly Garlands for Cupoftea's beautiful girls. Knitters and crocheters needed.

You may have been following the progress of Cupoftea?s beautiful daughter, Beatrice Primrose.
This project is to make garlands for Cupoftea?s daughters, to include the flowers in all their names and other lovely things. We would appreciate your help.

The idea is to make some garlands similar to this woolly one.

However, we would like to include the following:

Bees for Beatrice
Primroses
Violets and Daisies for Beatrice?s sisters
Flowers
Any decorative motifs
Triangular bunting that we can stitch crochet motifs onto (size to be confirmed)

If you are a knitter wanting to make bunting, garter stitch is preferable as it will lie flatter.

Unlike the blanket projects, these woolly things can be made from any wool.

I will post more details including sizes and links to patterns shortly.

Please sign up if you?d like to contribute.

Mine are at last posted and should hopefully arrive tomorrow. Very sorry for the delay.
My new motto is, never put off until tomorrow what you can do today...

I've enjoyed making them though, my first bunts!
Thanks for organising, Knotty.

I have a crochet question. Who'd have thought it! I on a course

When buying hooks, what do I need? There seem to be different types. I need a 4mm and a 4.5mm. Does it matter what they are made from? Or is something supposed to be better?

Obviously I am an absolute begonia Blush so possibly need some with stabilisers Grin

KnottyLocks · 18/10/2011 20:20

Piste, I'd go for the bog standard metal ones to start with - like knitting needles. The wool slides along them nicely. Bamboo are nice but take a bit of getting used to.

I prefer metal ones too, they feel more rigid and slidier.

I thought I could crochet until I tried to follow a pattern and realised that I do almost all the stitches wrong, there's definitely more to it than I'd thought.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2011 21:23

Glad they arrived safely :) Was there a bee in there too or did my friend steal him when i was showing her?

KnottyLocks · 18/10/2011 21:42

The bee made it!

Great I was worried she may have palmed him when putting the stuff back in the envelope!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 06:46

Bog standard metal ones it is the. Cheers Brew I intend to get them today.

On the course info, it says that we have to bring the hooks, and they will supply the yarn. I'm just hoping they supply Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or Rowan Cashsoft DK in blues, pinks, purple, greens, silvers, creams, because quite frankly dahlings, I could never deign to use any other now Grin

Mothmagnet Star - absolutely gorgeous works of art. Choc very appreciated too Grin

DillyTante Star - and a big thank you for my lovely snowflake Smile

Ratherbeonthepiste - I bought myself a set of crochet hooks like these ones off ebay - I think mine were from china, but they were pretty cheap and gave me a good range of sizes. They are metal, and I've found them easy to use (and I am shallow enough to like the different, pretty colours).

And I love the idea of you being a complete begonia. I am a bit past being a begonia, but am now somewhat stumped by crochet patterns, so learning new stitches is a bit of a faff (currently involving a good friend explaining each row to me before I do it). Copying said friend, I am putting each new stitch I learn into use on a poncho - it started as a circle that was big enough to go over my head, and I am just going round and round and round in lots of different yarns, colours and textures. I think it is fab, but the dses have said I am utterly forbidden from wearing it in public EVER!! Of course, this guarantees I shall be wearing it in public. [evil]Grin

KnottyLocks · 19/10/2011 16:39

A poncho is a most marvellous fashion statement Grin

Wear it with pride.

And to perdition with the disapproving dses!!

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 19/10/2011 17:25

Glad they arrived safely Knotty. You are ALL doing a marvellous job co-ordinating and constructing. Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 17:50

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius - I have hook envy now Envy I want!

AND I can so do shallow Grin

I bought bog standard ones like knitting needles. Best you could say is functional. But maybe if I get the hang of it, I could be hopeful for these from Father Christmas

And SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius definitely wear the glamourous sounding poncho. Publicly. With pride in your heart. Stuff the kids Grin Better still, make one for everyone and go out as Team Poncho. Smashing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/10/2011 18:54

I will take a picture of it, and post it on my profile when I have some minutes to spare, so you can see exactly how embarrassing it is going to be. There are pink sparkly bits, and pink fluffy bits, and dark pink ruffly bits, and there's turquoise and green and plain pink too. It may even get a round or two of purple debbie bliss andes wool, which is the softest, silkiest yarn I have ever felt, but costs £6 a skein, so I could only afford one! Grin

DeliriousTante · 19/10/2011 19:12

Glad they got there knotty. Sorry it wasn't more, but I thought at least you should have something for you effort :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 20:40

Really looking forward to seeing that photo!!

KnottyLocks · 19/10/2011 20:57

Dilly, I shall hang the snowflake on my Christmas tree. I'll fit in very nicely indeed. Smile

I am really looking forward to seeing this poncho now!

I'm glad they arrived ok, good luck with putting it all together.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/10/2011 23:25

Wink

One day, when I can actually follow a crochet pattern, I hope to be able to crochet snowflakes. I think a crocheted, starched snowflake, with a ribbon to suspend it from a christmas tree, could be attached to a dark blue card blank to make a lovely christmas card that becomes a decoration. But at current rate of learning progress, it could be many christmases away. But at least I can crochet some flowers to go on this garland - which is for such a good cause.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/10/2011 23:28

Ratherbeonthepiste - I had another look at ebay, and there are these colourful hooks for under a fiver, all in. You could treat yourself......

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/10/2011 15:30

I've put a picture of me in the poncho on my profile - though it's more of a wide collar at the moment. Sorry that the pic involves you having to see me too! Blush
