Title says it all really.
Tell me about the lovely things you have been making, any craft. Pictures/Ravelry links would be great.
I like to crochet but I've found myself in a bit of a rut and want to be inspired and find some motivation to make something, even if its a totally different craft.

moominthecorner · 23/06/2011 13:21

stealth that dragon bag is awesome

moominthecorner · 23/06/2011 13:24

only have you tried favourite fabrics on ebay? Perhaps a bit ditsy but good prices and v good service too.

OnlyWantsOne · 23/06/2011 17:29

well Ive just got back from the fabric shop (I spent a VAST amount on oil cloth,..)

Kryshees · 23/06/2011 17:56

hee hee, I just had my first attempt sewing oil cloth. The teflon foot seemed to work a treat. I was adviced to use a jeans needle, not sure why?! But that worked ok too.

Wondering if there are levels of 'quality' with oil cloth or not...hmmm

OnlyWantsOne · 23/06/2011 18:45

hmm, well Ive read lots of things that sugest a 16 needle, so you dont make HUGE holes in the oil cloth - my teflon foot arrived today
I need to make 4 wallets tonight!!

Bumperlicioso · 23/06/2011 19:25

Oh the Mei tai was a combination of some of the tutorials on this site, checking out a rl babyhawk, and swearing at my sewing machine as it protested against going through several layers of canvas and fleece! Looks better from far away but am rather proud of it seeing as I can only just make my sewing machine go :)

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 10:08

oilcloth - and teflon foot - duly added to my wishlist Grin - sounds like fun.

I am currently kidding myself that with DH away most of next week I might have some time in the evenings to sew. Having worked it out there is in fact 1 evening I might be able to, and I need to make a birthday cake for DH's return [sigh].

OK - someone inspire me with a new, interesting, and easy bag pattern that I can make for teacher presents (*4-ish - hence the 'easy' requirement)....please?

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 10:33

Ouch - fabric rehab prices look good until you realise they are for FQs.

I have a beautiful piece of this japanese fabric hoarded to make a bag for me (I bought the same fabric once before in a different colour and ended up using it to make a bag for my mother!)

moominthecorner · 24/06/2011 13:09

Just back from the charity shop - £3 for a massive piece of oriental silk it's gorgeous!!! What shall I make? It's heavy and quite stiff. Turquoise. Lovely!

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 13:49

Massive floor cushion? Or would you cry when it got ruined?

OnlyWantsOne · 24/06/2011 14:03

how big is it Moomin?

A nice bag?

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 14:05

I can recommend this pattern for showing off nice fabric.

Bumperlicioso · 24/06/2011 14:19

What charity shop moomin?!

moominthecorner · 24/06/2011 14:21

It's about 2.5m long - too much for a bag really although am contemplating a funky laptop bag...I would cry stealth so can't be too down and dirrrrty...

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 14:27

bag pattern I linked to takes about a metre - so you could do that and a funky laptop cover to go in it??

OnlyWantsOne · 24/06/2011 14:46

ladies, what do I need to put snap fastenings on stuff?? Tell me what to buy please!!

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 14:53

snap fastenings? or magnetic ones? snap fastenings you need the same sort of plier-thingies that you put eyelets in with - magnetic ones (buy them from ebay) need no more than a stanley knife.

OnlyWantsOne · 24/06/2011 14:55

i put ,agnetic snaps in already but i want to use snaps (like on babygrows)

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2011 15:04

Prym is the best brand IME, and you will need some pliers like these

overmydeadbody · 24/06/2011 17:20

Stealth do you want a bag bag with strap(s) or would a zip up pouch/makeup bag do for the teachers?

Because I can recommend the straight sided prism pouch to you, very easy, and you can make it any size you want...

overmydeadbody · 25/06/2011 13:07

I've just made a Wildflower pincushion, that turned out rather monsterous.

OnlyWantsOne · 25/06/2011 13:49

Im making a prism bag thing... im rather dissapointed. I followed a tutorial (which I found really hard to follow) so am going to write my own now Ive figured it out!!

new post on blog in a bit

(im goin to go look at overmydead's blog now)

overmydeadbody · 25/06/2011 14:00

Oh no onlywants one! What tutorial did you follow?

The best ever way to make prism pouches is explained very clearly in this tutorial on craftster. That's how I make mine, in all different sizes.

OnlyWantsOne · 25/06/2011 14:00

oil cloth prism bag
