If you can knit AT ALL could you please CAT either of us?

We are making a blanket present with a Mn connection and would love as many people as feel willing and able to contribute a 15cm square, plain or fancy as you like, in cotton double knitting yarn. We can help with sourcing suppliers.
More details available off-board.

It's a surprise for the person in question, so please, please contact us for more info rather than make guesses etc on here...it's in an extremely good cause.

Very many thanks to anyone who feels able to help. XXX

Marina, that was my thought.

I have a 4-year-old and a 14-month-old. So they're pretty manageable. We can get around with a car, with advance notice. Or if people want to come to ours, we're on the Central line, the District Line, and not far from the DLR. (I might be able to get bran to come, too, she's not far away, and is crafty.)

Only problem with my house is, it's a one-big-room sort of house. We could work around the kitchen table I guess, while kids used the living room ... or they could go to the library or something.

bundle · 16/11/2005 11:12

we'd have to teleconference, tamum

tamum · 16/11/2005 11:17

Perhaps some webcams set up?

NQC, I can't help loling slightly at the thought of a 4 year old and 14 month old being pretty manageable by definition! They are obviously lovely kids (I knew that anyway, of course)

NotQuiteCockney · 16/11/2005 11:32

Well, they're not angels. But they're both really sociable and think new people and places are good.

We had a two-year-old visiting one afternoon last week. Within 15 minutes, DS1 was trying to drag him up to his room to show off his toys.

tamum · 16/11/2005 11:43

They sound great

Tinker · 16/11/2005 11:52

Posted mine yesterday Marina

Marina · 16/11/2005 12:10

I got a bumper consignment today - stand up and be thanked Tinker, Fauve, Motherpeculiar and - ta da! - NQC, whose megasquare is just lovely. It will make a terrific centrepiece and all the colours in today's post are a welcome addition to the stash, which was low-ish on blue and yellow and now isn't.

God, I have only knitted one...

Could manage another but guess I am out of time now! Boo!

Where do I send?

Marina · 16/11/2005 20:43

Weesaidie, plenty of people have only done one, one is fine. Thank you so much. You can get my address off tamum who I think you are in touch with, or CAT me

How many squares do you have now? This must be heading towards being a pretty impressive quilt.

Let me know whether you want to try to do a quilting bee thing one weekend. We have some parties and stuff coming up, but I'm sure we could find a date. Which London Mumsnetters could be around? (I will email Bran, if you want to have it at mine. She actually does quilting, as well as knitting, so I'm sure sewing up is something she could do ...)

weesaidie · 16/11/2005 20:47

Thanks Marina.

Marina · 16/11/2005 20:54

NQC, that's really generous of you - I think you are a logical hostess as I suspect you are the nearest of us all to central London and therefore easiest to reach (I am in zone 4 overground, one of those locations that is fast and easy during the rush hour and often "replacement buses" at the weekend .
If Bran can help, that would be wonderful. Bundle and Motherinferior are also happy to come along, availability permitting, and maybe some of our other London knitters too?
I have the addresses of all our M25 squarers so may I contact you on your proper e-mail address tomorrow to discuss convenient dates etc?
Ds thinks your megasquare is the fabbest thing he ever saw. "Wow mum, how did she do all those textures?"

I am zone 2, walking distance from Mile End tube. And I have a bit of offstreet parking, and on-street is doable on weekend days, I think. So quite easy. If people bring children, they can all go out to the local library (bad weather) or the park (good weather). Or stay here. Whatever.

Please do contact me on my regular email. I will email bran to notify that I'm volunteering her for such things ...

NotQuiteCockney · 16/11/2005 21:40

Oh, and the big square is just a straight Barbara G. Walker pattern (the red one is also a Walker one. The blue one is a pattern I made up myself). You can see my Walker books if we have the meet here. It's a long and complicated pattern, but mostly a matter of YOs, cabling of sorts, and a bit of twisted stitches (Kb stuff).

I'm mad for the Walker patterns, she has just so many of them, well-explained and consistent.

tissy · 16/11/2005 21:44

Marina, the new square is nearly finished, may be able to post it tomorrow. Decided to re-do the whole thing, and so far it looks OK.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/11/2005 21:53

Ack, really, Tissy?

I did a 15x13 square to go beside your 15x17 square!

Ok, I'll go figure out a 15x17 square myself ...

tissy · 17/11/2005 08:47

Oh, b8gger1 I thought I was doing the right thing by re-doing the square, i didn't really want the blanket to look odd with funny shaped patches! This square isn't finished yet, and is definitely 15cm wide, so shall I continue it for 17cm?

NotQuiteCockney · 17/11/2005 09:23

Tissy, that makes sense, go for 17cm long.

Sorry, I should have CATed you about this ...

Twiga · 18/11/2005 16:51

Marina, just to let you know that I'll be posting my aquares to you over the wkend - just need to get last one finished, sorry it's slightly over deadline - should be with you by Monday.

Marina · 18/11/2005 19:31

Thanks Twiga - we are aiming to do the sewing up the following weekend, so Monday is NO problem at all, honest!
And thanks Suedonim, for two lovely squares and your kind note. received today

suedonim · 18/11/2005 19:58

Oh, glad you got them today, Marina! When I posted them yesterday the postbox thingie said the mail had already been collected so I thought it wouldn't go until today. I think the postie must be a bit confused - I know I am!

Miaou · 18/11/2005 20:14

Have mine turned up yet, Marina?

Marina · 19/11/2005 10:34

Duh! Yes they have my dear, samne consignment as suedonim's, and they are lovely! Very impressed especially with the neatness of the stripes. Thank you so much - and for the stamps too
