If you can knit AT ALL could you please CAT either of us?

We are making a blanket present with a Mn connection and would love as many people as feel willing and able to contribute a 15cm square, plain or fancy as you like, in cotton double knitting yarn. We can help with sourcing suppliers.
More details available off-board.

It's a surprise for the person in question, so please, please contact us for more info rather than make guesses etc on here...it's in an extremely good cause.

Very many thanks to anyone who feels able to help. XXX

I keep meaning to learn properly - I might manage a square...but not for a special reason where I'd be relied upon to produce!

But bump anyway!

Marina · 19/10/2005 11:23

Thanks hunker
Bump again

I think we used to knit squares for Oxfam when I was a child - could that be right? Anyway I'd be happy to have a go, might take a VERY long time to do a single square, though - hope it's not a tight deadline... Will CAT you anyway.

Marina · 19/10/2005 11:49

Thanks Faux, I will look forward to hearing from you. It sounds a lot, but in fact in plain stitching a 15cm square gets done quite fast, I promise (I am a southpaw knitter and not the world's fastest)

Am intrigued though...looking forward to hearing all about it

And bump again

tamum · 19/10/2005 12:37

Bump

motherinferior · 19/10/2005 12:58

OK, bung me the details, go on, go on, go on, have knitting needles in the cupboard under the stairs.

motherpeculiar · 19/10/2005 13:07

I'll do it

can you email me more details

weesaidie · 19/10/2005 13:10

I'll do it, tamum has my email address.

AuntyQuated · 19/10/2005 13:10

go on then, email me the details

tamum · 19/10/2005 13:12

Hurrah, thank you

Jayzmummy · 19/10/2005 13:17

I'll do one for you.
CAT me

Marina · 19/10/2005 13:27

Oh, bless you all, will send CATs with more info.
If anyone was thinking of casting on and getting cracking this very afternoon, tamum has sensibly reminded me that a four-row, five-stitch moss stitch border round each square will greatly help us assemble a flat and even blankie.
We are very grateful XXX

OP posts:
SueW · 19/10/2005 13:27

Does it have to be a particular colour/range of colours?

AuntyQuated · 19/10/2005 13:31

moss stitch?
remind me...
is that K1 P1 all the way along then P1 K1 all the way back??

sorry - tis a while since i knitted anyhting

Marina · 19/10/2005 13:34

Not at all Sue. Squares gratefully received from Mners, their tyro mothers or their novice dds...

Weesaidie, I thought she might! I will leave it to her to liaise with you direct, thanks.

Jayzmummy, have CATed you, thanks

AQ, CAT on its way, thanks

MP, will mail you, I owe you a note anyway

MI, I know you have very pressing home concerns of your own, thanks so much for offering. Erm, but could you leave curvy landscapes out

OP posts:
Marina · 19/10/2005 13:34

Yes AQ. Short-term necessary evil in knitting terms I find!

OP posts:
tamum · 19/10/2005 13:37

Fab, what a lot of stars you all are. AQ, it's just K1 P1 rib but out of synch, as it were; the exact details depend on whether you have an odd or even number of stitches. It just means that all the squares will lie flat.

I have emailed weesaidie

NotQuiteCockney · 19/10/2005 13:38

blink blink why apologies to me? What have I missed?

And I'll help, obviously. I think I have some cotton DK. That's the stuff that knits up on 4mm needles?

Marina · 19/10/2005 13:44

Maybe more "acknowledgments" NQC after your entertaining thread on German manners re knitting commissions.

Thanks so much. I will be using 4mm myself too. CAT me if you want further info

OP posts:
motherinferior · 19/10/2005 13:45

I shall hide my landscapes under a bushel

NotQuiteCockney · 19/10/2005 13:53

Ah, yes, that makes sense.

Simple (ish) question: is it ok to do it in some all-over pattern that lies flat, without the moss stitch? I'd rather do an interesting texture, but doing one with a moss stitch border might be tricky (as interesting textures always take more stitches to the inch than moss stitch does ...)

Marina · 19/10/2005 13:56

I will leave that decision to you NQC as you clearly know what you are about. Mach Schnell!

OP posts:
Blu · 19/10/2005 14:16

Just the one bushel, MI?

Yes, I'll attempt a sqaure, but have not progressed beyond what I learned at Brownies.

Dingle · 19/10/2005 14:16

It is always so hectic here but would love to contribute. When do you need it by?

CAT me the details and I will TRY, I promise.
