Welcome to the newest thread of support for those ladies who are pregnant or trying to conceive after terminating for abnormalities. Since this thread first began (almost ten years ago!) there have been stories of heart break, sadness and fear, but from these stories there have also been stories of happiness, success and most importantly, hope.

Just back from my scan. The nuchal measurement was 1.8mm which I think is normal? And everything looked fine! Just waiting for blood results now- feeling more hopeful x

kiki275 · 07/03/2021 12:48

Lovely news @CrispMonster12, how long will the wait be so you know?x

About a week for the NIPT blood test to come back I think. Counting the days! X

Dia12 · 07/03/2021 14:48

That's a really good sign @CrispMonster12, so happy for you. Hope it gives you a bit more confidence towards your NIPT too.

How are you doing @kiki275, sending you love for what must be a difficult time coming up for you.

Hope you're keeping well too @ Mummabear40.

Alice40p · 07/03/2021 18:25

Great news @CrispMonster12!

Alice40p · 07/03/2021 18:26

How many weeks did you have your NIPT at?

Hadd9 · 08/03/2021 23:18

Hey,
I sadly had a TFMR on Thursday due to baby having Patau Syndrome.

I’ve had the usual bleeding, last night I was in a lot of pain and passed a large clot. Since then I’ve hardly passed any blood just some brown spotting.

Is this normal?

I’ve been pregnant/had a termination before so I’m really unsure on what is normal. The hospital said up to two weeks of bleeding but I’ve read on here some women have 6 weeks!

Any help is really appreciated 💕

Hadd9 · 08/03/2021 23:19

Haven’t been pregnant before - didn’t proof read sorry!!

Kiki275 · 09/03/2021 08:03

@Hadd9 I'm so sorry that you find yourself here.
I had 6 weeks of bleeding but it was a multiple pregnancy with pretty much continuous bleeding throughout. I'm sure my healthy pregnancy didn't last longer than a month. I've known people have minimum post party bleeding and some with lots. I really don't think there's a right answer. If you're worried, do speak to your MW or GP xx

@Hadd9 so sorry you find yourself here. I had 2.5 weeks of bleeding. I had some clots too and after that the bleeding stopped I think after some spotting. I did call the delivery unit to ask about the clot. In my discharge summary they mentioned that if the clot is bigger than a 50p coin, I should give them a call, so I did. They said in my case it was ok. They didn’t get me in again to check for retained tissue. They said if there was any retained tissue, the bleeding will start again. Please do give them a call just so that you feel reassured. xx

Alice40p · 10/03/2021 08:06

I just have a question about NIPT, was the scan you had a vaginal one or an abdominal one? Thanks

Dia12 · 10/03/2021 08:58

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss @Hadd9. I had a tfmr for T18 at 16w and my bleeding started become darker in colour to taper off at around 3 weeks but didn't actually stop, and then suddenly became bright red and heavy again. I knew at that point that I had retained product but took a while for hospital to do anything about it.
Bleeding for 2-3weeks is normal, as are clots. Expect it to decrease with time but any dramatic changes, or anything that worries you do give them a call as Alice suggested.

I hope you have the support around you to get through this difficult time. Sending you a virtual hug.

Dia12 · 10/03/2021 08:59

@Alice40p I had my NIPT around week 10 and I had a abdominal scan.
When are you having yours?

Hadd9 · 10/03/2021 10:13

Thank you so much for the information. We have got lots of family and friends supporting us virtually and dropping food parcels off! X

CrispMonster12 · 10/03/2021 18:42

@Alice40p how are you doing? You can have a NIPT from around 10 weeks- it’s a blood test and an abdominal scan. Turns out I was 12 weeks when I went for mine. Hope you’re ok.

@Hadd9 sorry you’re here with us. So good you’re getting support from your family and the food parcels sound great! Hope you’re doing ok. My bleeding lasted a couple of weeks. I would say don’t hesitate to pick up the phone to hospital/clinic for advice if you’re worried about bleeding. Sending love.

Alice40p · 11/03/2021 07:58

Thanks @Dia12 mine is end of next week. Feeling so anxious now! I was ok up until this point. This was exactly the time when things started going downhill for me in my last pregnancy! I had a private reassurance scan this week and the baby was actually measuring a day a head of what I thought it should be. That made me feel slightly more relaxed as with last pregnancy the baby was much smaller than my dates. @CrispMonster12 thanks. Did you go to scan thinking you are 10 weeks and the baby was 12 weeks ! That’s amazing! Hope you get your results soon. This waiting game is torturous, isn’t it? I wish I had a button to fast forward to at least 3 weeks!

Mummabear40 · 11/03/2021 11:18

@CrispMonster12 I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer for your results.

@Alice40p glad your reassurance scan went well also.

@Hadd9 so sorry you find yourself here but glad you’ve got a good support network.

I’m doing ok, 18 weeks now and on count down to my 20 week scan, I feel like time has stopped waiting for it! I got woken in the night the other night with kicks and the baby turning which was lovely.
I’m suffering terribly with piles (sorry tmi!) so have had to call the doctor for treatment but other than that I’m doing ok. x

Hadd9 · 11/03/2021 17:35

You all offer so much hope that things get easier, so thank you for that!
Thank you for the advice, I feel like things have gone back to what I would expect
Xx

Dia12 · 11/03/2021 18:22

Measuring ahead is always a good sign. It's just about getting yourself and partner through the next few weeks, getting past the NIPT. Although the worry doesn't end, it will definitely get better. Keep distracted, stay positive (this is a new pregnancy with every chance of success) and keep picking up the phone to arc/sands as and when you need to get things off your chest. Rooting for you @Alice40p

Alice40p · 11/03/2021 21:45

Thanks a lot @Dia12. To add to my worries, I seem to have a small blister which has swollen and become red and is causing irritation and bleeding on whipping after passing a wee. My GP has put me on antibiotics😢. I’m hoping the bleeding after whipping is just from this and nothing else.

Dia12 · 11/03/2021 23:09

Oh you poor thing. That doesn't sound very nice. I'm sure the bleeding is most probably the blister. Antibiotics should clear it soon.

So nice to hear you're feeling kicks @Mummabear40!! That's lovely. I'm still waiting, but as it's my first I expect I have a few more weeks to go perhaps.
I've been having terrible constipation and got some lactulose....I think perhaps I'm not drinking enough and the lactulose doesn't seem to be very helpful. Hope the gp gives you something that helps the piles.

Alice40p · 12/03/2021 07:14

@Dia12 thanks, I know it sounds silly, but you saying it will be fine makes me feel better. Thanks for your kind words 🙂. I had constipation when I was taking iron supplements. I just started eating a plateful of cucumber and carrots before dinner and that seemed to help with it.
@Mummabear40 great news about the kicks. I had piles in my last pregnancy and my GP gave a topical cream which helped.

Alice40p · 12/03/2021 07:15

Is anyone else having pregnancy insomnia? There are days were I don’t get more than 4-5 hours sleep!

Mummabear40 · 12/03/2021 07:56

@Dia12 @Alice40p thank you, feeling the kicks and movements is incredible.
The doctor has prescribed a stool softener and ointment so hoping these help.

Yeah I’ve had insomnia all through this pregnancy so far also and the weirdest most vivid dreams!
