So, New Year, New Thread. And the next set of New Babies are arriving! I hope they prove that there can be light at the end of the very dark tunnel we have all had to come through and I hope there are many more babies to come. In the meantime, we're here, as ever, with supportive words, virtual hands to hold and multiple fingers to cross to help everyone through these nerve wracking waits and scans. A more lovely group of ladies you could not wish to find. xxx

Exciting Poot! Quite unusual to get the full soap opera treatment. Not sure what the NICE guidelines say these days about how long you can wait for induction after waters go but I think you should be ok for another day if you're at all unsure about being induced?

Or there's always nipple stimulation. Apparently you have to do it quite firmly and for quite a while (as if you were hand expressing milk) but apparently it works...

Good luck, thinking of you and wishing you a calm, straightforward labour and birth xx

NatzCNL · 01/02/2011 18:34

Oooo! Poot!!! Very exciting! I hope all is going well, and I look forward to reading announcement very soon xxx Grin

katiecubs · 01/02/2011 19:33

Oh Poot so exciting Grin - not long to go now then eek, good luck!! xxx

Crazy cat for some reason i seemed to have missed your msg yesterday, so sorry. I really hope today went ok as it could do - i remember feeling all guilty on my anniversary, had already had Felix by then i felt like i had betrayed my little girl somehow, silly really. Anyway thinking of you and your family xxx

Coffeeandchocolate · 01/02/2011 20:38

Poot, how exciting, fingers crossed, not long until you meet Dot now! I hope he will make a swift appearance.

Katie, I must have cross posted with you... glad to hear from you.

Another source of anxiety for me now, my midwife today found a lot of sugar in my urine (+++) and I'm going for a repeat GTT test tomorrow morning. How on earth could I have developed diabetes (she seemed quite concerned about this)? My rational mind is telling me it might not be diabetes, but then my stupid pessimistic nature takes over...

Anyway, sorry to ramble on about myself now. Poot's news is really exciting and I'm so looking forward to another birth announcement, I can blame it on my hormones if I get a bit teary.

Catlady, I hope today has been peaceful for you and your DH.

Mishtabel · 02/02/2011 07:11

Ooo ooo, how did I miss this! Good luck Poot! So excited for you, and can't wait to hear news of Dot's arrival xx

Just quickly as tea time here - Babylily, that was wonderful news you had - what a trying time for you though; Coffee, I don't know as much about GDM as I probably should (except that it can lead to larger babies and usually goes at the end of pregnancy), but good luck with your GTT today; Eavers, so glad to hear things settled down, and good luck to you to you also for today; Crazycat, thinking of you for yesterday xx

Hello and love to everyone else xxx

PS Mimsy, if you get a chance to read (not sure what date you leave for Oz), hope the latest weather threat doesn't disrupt your plans. QLD has certainly copped it this summer. Have a safe trip xx

Havingkittens · 02/02/2011 10:50

Oh my gosh, Poot! How exciting! Waits with baited breath...

Catlady, I hope the day passed gently for you. I didn't get a chance to post as I was on location with no internet access but you were in my thoughts.

Coffee, sorry to hear about the possible diabetes. I hope all is ok. Considering how compact you were last time I saw you I suspect a large baby isn't that likely. Still, good that they have noticed now. They can give you the right meds and hopefully all will be fine.

Hello everyone else. Hope all is well with you all.

rushingrachel · 02/02/2011 11:01

Wow Poot, good luck!! So looking forward to news.

Coffee - I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy. There are complications associated if the condition is unmanaged (I remember them explaining it can make your baby big, or can result in the baby having an issue with overproduction of insulin following birth). So they get excited about picking it up as they don't want it to complicate your pregnancy. However it's nothing to worry about, it goes away. And I haven't had it this time even though I had to have the GTT early.

The treatment is usually to put you on a diet where you can't eat any carbs or sugars and you have to test your sugar levels.

It's not easy going during pregnancy to watch what you eat like a hawk in this way, but you get through it and you've less than a month to go. If that is what it is, it also means that generally they will not let your pregnancy go overdue and if the baby looks to be getting big they'll induce.

Fingers crossed it's nothing, but GDM is not a disaster and practically speaking if you have it you need to manage it so best to know as soon as possible.

katiecubs · 02/02/2011 11:34

Coffee hi - i know a couple of people who has gestational diabetes (my sister and a friend) and like rachel says it's nothing to worry about - more annoying than anything.

I also had high blood sugers at one midwife appointment and they had to restest and it turned out to be fine - was in fact just too much suger on my shreddies :)

Coffeeandchocolate · 02/02/2011 12:56

Thank you all for the encouragement. I woke up in a more optimistic mood today, and just thought that first of all I?m not sure if I have it or not, and secondly even if I do the baby is almost due, so it shouldn?t affect him too much. And he shouldn?t be too big, I measured 2 cm small yesterday (my midwife always seems to measure me small though, I?ve seen another one while she was off and I was bang on my date ? hardly an exact science).

Anyway, I just quickly logged on from work to see if we have any news from Poot and eavers. Pom-pom shaking for Poot and little Dot, although don?t mind us impatient, excited ladies, Poot, just enjoy Dot if he?s here now (fingers crossed) and just update us when you can.

eavers · 02/02/2011 14:30

Hi all.

I had my Nuchal scan this morning and the measurement was 2.7mm. This was a lot bigger than I hoped for but not really really bad. The doctor had a really good look at everything and couldn't find any soft markers and there WAS a nasal bone.

I had a blood test but won't get the results til next week when they combine the results to get a risk level.

I am having another nuchal scan at FMC tomorrow and then we will decide on the CVS. I really want to avoid it if possible. It will probably depend on the blood test results now, you get the results there an then at the FMC.

I am feeling a bit flat really, not sure what to think. Not celebrating but very glad I didnt get a 6mm measurerment like last time. Am very pleased there is a nasal bone.

Hi to everyone. Looking forward to Poot's news

Havingkittens · 02/02/2011 16:47

Everything crossed for you Eavers x

crazycatlady · 02/02/2011 19:44

Eavers I hope it goes well for you at the FMC tomorrow. They are the absolute best and getting the full results then and there is so important when you're feeling anxious.

Coffee the advice you've had already re the gestational diabetes is good. I don't know much more about it than what's already been said, but coffeebean is nearly cooked now so whatever the result it's not long to go thankfully.

Yesterday was odd. Thank you all for the kind messages. I spent the day with DD, went off to a new playgroup in the morning and spent the afternoon with friends. DH and I didn't mention the anniversary at all. I'm actually wondering if he forgot... and I don't really want to bring it up now but am feeling cross inside if he did forget so perhaps we should chat. I don't know.

Poot, can't wait to hear news of Dot. Hope you're all well and happy.

Homebirth kit was dropped off by the midwife today. Have been feeling a bit tired and twingy but nothing exciting to report. Due 18th so could be a while yet xx

Coffeeandchocolate · 02/02/2011 23:24

Eavers, it's not the result you wanted, and I completely understand why you are not reassured. However, as you say it is not a bad result. It's excellent that there are no markers, and your bloods can give you very good odds. I think after all we've been through we would want everything to be just average. From what you wrote it seems to me like the doctor had no reason for concern. I hope the nuchal at the FMC tomorrow reassures you.

Catlady, it must have been strange indeed. Here you are now, on the other side of the one year mark. I do think that spending the day with your dd was very fitting. I hope you'll be able to speak with your dh if you feel this will help.

I wonder how Poot is... Catlady, you're next, aren't you? Then Rachel, me and Drama (not sure she's still around). Did I forget anyone?

Anyone testing soon? I'll be keeping my fingers crossed anyway, and think of all the TTC-ers. Also a big hello to the old-timers, I hope you're all ok.

Mishtabel · 03/02/2011 04:03

Eavers, good luck for tomorrow. Bella (who is now a perfectly healthy one year old) had a nuchal fold of 3.0mm. As is me, I thought the worst, thinking that history was repeating, and booked the CVS without waiting for the blood results. The people doing the CVS weren't terribly impressed with me, saying that in their opinion, I had "jumped the gun", that a 3mm NF can and, in the vast majority of cases, does, mean nothing (despite my history) and they pretty much insisted on ringing up for the blood results before going ahead. Incidentally, the combined results were 1:300, which unhelpfully was exactly on the borderline of high risk/low risk here, and DH and I had decided to only go ahead with CVS if it was high risk - didn't know what to do, DH was away at work and I couldn't get hold of him - aggghh! They rescanned me, revised result to 1:50, which I was happy with (T21 pregnancy was 1:2), but still decided to go ahead - and all was well. I'm rambling, but just want you to know 2.7mm by itself means nothing, and an obvious nasal bone sounds great - all of which you probably know anyway! I know though how fears can sometimes get the better of us. Again, good luck xx

Catlady, is your DH just bad with dates? I say this, as mine is hopeless and would forget his own birthday if I didn't remind him. Homebirth kit sounds interesting - how exciting. Home births aren't that common over here - not as well supported by the government as it seems to be over there - but I think it would be lovely (says me who begged for a C-section last time). Hope you're managing to get some rest xx

Yes, Poot, just update when you can.....no pressure....really.....just when you're ready.....xx

Gees, with that list Coffee, looks like we're in for a busy month :)
Hello and love to everyone else xxx

manitz · 03/02/2011 09:56

hi just a quick one. Good luck poot, very keen to hear news.

coffee I had high sugars and a high sugar diet, not diabetes even though high risk as bro has type 1. As everyone says it's late in pg and not much to worry about if managed.

eavers, sorry not the news you hoped for but not bad news either, just more waiting. not surprised you feel flat.

Looking forward to a rush of babies. x

grandj · 03/02/2011 17:39

A lot seems to have happened since I was last able to post. Masses of luck to LittlePoot.

Eavers, I have been thinking about you today, I hope all is ok.

eavers · 03/02/2011 21:09

Hi

I had my second NT scan at FMC today and it was much better news. The nuchal was measured at 2.8mm (measured yesterday at 2.7mm) and the doctor seemed a bit more concerned about this than the NHS doctor did yesterday, she said 2.4mm is the top end of the normal range.

But everything else was fine , nasal bone present, normal tricuspid flow and ductus venosus in the heart. The blood test result result was good and she said the blood result was unlike the pattern they see for downs.

I got a risk for T21 of 1:1315 !!!!! I nearly fell off my chair when she said that.

However the risk for Patau was a bit increased compared to my background risk but only 1:773 (background risk 1:924) due to blood and slightly increased heart rate but I'm not going to worry about that. She said T18 and T13 are more likely to have characteristics seen on the scan and she hadn't seen any.

She did warn that my NHS risk is likely to come back a lot lot higher because they don't take as many factors into account as they do at FMC.

So at the moment we are probably not going to have the CVS. I really want to know for sure but am scared of the miscarriage risk. My NHS doctor said she will do a scan at 15 weeks. So I think we will just hope for the best and for the moment any leave any invasive testing.

Thankyou all for your thoughts and kind wishes, especially Mishtabel's story that was very reassuring. It's so helpful to have people who know exactly what you are going through.

NatzCNL · 03/02/2011 21:26

Eavers, that's great news. So glad it went well, you sound much happier! Very good odds for T21 and at least you are now prepared for your NHS results.

We got a booking in appointment letter today, still waiting for an appointment letter for the dating scan, but GP said she wouldn't refer me until the end of this week as she didn't want to send me too early and not be able to find anything.

I have amazed myself at keeping the pregnancy a secret for so long. We have known for 3 weeks now and I still have not told my mum or sister. Although I did let it slip to one of the mums at DD1 swimming lesson, and stupidly tried to act like I hadn't said anything when she congratulated me.... Blush

I explained about Cara and our need to keep things to ourselves at the moment. She was very sweet and very kind. Luckily my sister no longer goes to the swimming lesson!

Coffee and Catlady, hope you are well and resting up before your babies make an appearance. I know I had missed out lots of people, but Im in the midst of organising DD2 birthday on Saturday.... having a party at home, begining to regret that decision now! Hmm

Waves to everyone else

Mishtabel · 04/02/2011 03:58

Eavers, glad to be able to help. What great results! I think, if I had my time over, I would probably do what you are doing ie. extra scans instead of CVS (not that it was offered) as I bled on and off for over a week with the last one. Although it obviously turned out in the end, it was a very scary time.

Natz, good luck for Saturday. Have fun Grin

Love to everyone else xxx

katiecubs · 04/02/2011 08:48

Great news eavers Grin

Am i the only one that thinks that Poot should update us the minute she gives birth?! LOL just very impatient to hear eek

Have a lovely part on Sat Natz xxx

Coffeeandchocolate · 04/02/2011 20:08

So pleased to hear the good news eavers, great decision to go to the FMC! Make the most of this post-scan feeling. It's great they are offering you a 15-week scan. One milestone after another, you will get there!

Katie, I'm also looking forward to hearing from Poot, it's now 5 days since her waters broke.

I called the GP surgery today. The receptionist said the glucose was ok, but my full blood count results came back with a comment that I must make a routine appointment. Routine means nothing serious I suppose, but I so look forward to these weeks being over! I have really enjoyed most of the third trimester and there have been times when I managed to relax, but now I just want Coffeebean here and hope he's healthy. I'm fairly relaxed about my health generally, but in pregnancy I've turned into a paranoid wreck! I really don't like the person I've become.

Rant over, sorry as I didn't want to make this about me, so much is going on in here. And I really don't want to sound ungrateful...

Catlady, how are you, have you stopped work? Any sign from Catbaby?

Natz, good luck with the party tomorrow.

Hello to everyone else xxxx

Cantdothisagain · 04/02/2011 20:54

Hello everyone!

Good news Eavers. Great to have another scan rather than CVS. I was offered CVS despite v low risk odds (1 in 36000) because of previous problems and like you I declined it and accepted extra scans. Mind you I worried right up until Babycant turned up about chromosomal problems, cos I'd already been the 1 in x000 twice, so knew I could well have become the 1 in 36000. But was pleased, nonetheless, to avoid the risk of CVS/amnio. How are you feeling now?

OK, exciting times as Poot has clearly had Dot by now. My guess is the following: waters broke but proper labour didn't set in, led to induction, which didn't work, and EMCS. And she will have come home yesterday and be cuddling Dot. (BTW, Poot, the name Dot for a boy just sounds WRONG...).

Coffee, I wonder if blood results are showing you are slightly anaemic or something? I had glucose in urine once with DD1 - when I confessed to having been out twice the day before for fruit juice cocktails and cakes, and having had juice, grapes, and apple before attending the appointment, the midwife dismissed the glucose...
Know how you feel about the end being tough. You will be fine, you will be fine, but it's hard to believe, isnt it?

Hi Mishta and Bella the beautiful. Hard to believe you are over a year already. Babycant is nearly 10 months and a real character - insomniac, but smiley with it, and adorably comic. She loves to tease, plays Peekaboo nonstop, and laughs when DD1 falls over. Cheeky minx.

Hi everyone else, good luck to Catlady and Rachel who may even have their babies now too..? Exciting times for our thread.

And a special shout out to Kittens and Mimsy, here's to you celebrating healthy pregnancies soon too.

NumptyMum · 04/02/2011 21:08

Been away for a few days and loads has happened here! Really hoping Poot is enjoying her first few days with Dot; she may still be in hospital just getting things sorted with breastfeeding etc (I was in 5 days each time!). Just hope all is well.

Also lots of news from other people - Babylily, I'm so relieved that things seem to be OK, fingers crossed that they remain so. Eavers, your results sound good; I presume they will scan you again over the next few weeks (eg 18wks?) so that would give you an additional chance to see how things are going. That's what we did with Josie - although the scans were pretty nervewracking.

Coffee - that seems an odd blip with the blood sugars, are they all looking OK again now? All I know about GD is that the mums have their babies early, I think due to their increased size - and that it goes away once you have the baby. I found that the last weeks for both babies were difficult in terms of increased reasons to worry; the NCT have a pregnancy and birth helpline and it can be really useful to offload/ask for more info about things there. Hoping that the other ladies due soon as all doing OK - Catlady, Drama, Rachel and anyone else I may have forgotten.

And Mimsy, if you're reading, I hope things are OK and that you have a great time seeing your brother in London whenever that is (Feb sometime?) - I'll try and remember to text soon, hopefully Josie will get better at sleeping and some of my brain cells will return... xx

NumptyMum · 04/02/2011 21:16

Good to hear too from Cant and Mishtabel - and to hear about Babycant and Bella; amazing how time flies! Can't believe that little Felix is already starting his advantures with food too, where DID the time go?? Josie is trying her hardest to crawl but is still not quite getting it... perhaps that's just as well for a little while Grin.
