Husband left me sleeping in hot car

We went out for lunch today. Husband drove home and I fell asleep in the passenger seat. We got home and him and the children all went inside, leaving me in the hot car parked in direct sunlight with all the windows up and doors closed. I only woke up about 15mins when my son came to look for something. I was boiling hot when I woke up and was so angry he'd left me there.

We'd had an argument earlier and I almost think he did it on purpose. He says he didn't know I was asleep and thought I was just sitting in the car for a while. I'd been sleeping with my head drooping forward about 10 miles so I think it would have been obvious. He says oh i told you "we're home" and you ignored me. I was flippin' asleep!

I'm upset what could have happened if I'd been there longer in that heat. There's no way I would leave a child in a hot car with windows all up so I don't see why he thinks it's OK to do it to me. AIBU? Thank you

Drama llama alert. Leave him in a cold car in the future to balance the universe.

leatherboundbooks · 20/06/2023 18:46

At best it was unkind nasty and very thoughless. I imagine that the child waking her up was because child said what are you doing out here still mum, it's so hot.
A kind husband might have expressed regret and brought her a glass. Of water and suggested she went upstairs for a comfier nap

Well aren't you so much harder and more honest than everyone else on here, "BlinkeredBay"?

I don't think your Husband was right by any means. He should have looked out for your welfare.

But I am concerned that if you were sober you slept through an adult and 2 children leaving a vehicle. Most adults wake as a car begins to slow down.

Is it possible that you have an underlying health condition that caused you to sleep through? A friend with sleep apnoea used to fall asleep in the day before her CPAP and was impossible to wake.

Yes, I know.

Dustland · 20/06/2023 18:58

What a mean and uncaring thing for him to do! Also, nothing wrong with having a nap in the day, I do it sometimes, I don’t think it’s unusual or weird at all!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Pinkfluff76 · 20/06/2023 20:15

Wow what a twat. Very strange thing for a grown up to do!

So strange you wonder if there is a backstory.

Pigstrotter · 20/06/2023 21:04

Did he call you a cunt as well?

@Spankydom Boozy brunch? Where have you got the boozy part from? OP says she wasn't drinking. Now you're just making up lies to fit your own narrative!!!!

I just meant she went out for brunch and was tired after, usually that happens after a boozy one. Also her partner had to drive, which might be cause she was too intoxicated to do so.
i think her husband did the right thing of leaving her there, but probably could have left a note or sent a text? To let her know when she woke that they had all gone inside.

one partner I was with used to leave me in hotel rooms in the morning when I was asleep and they wanted to go to the gambling shop. I used to find it so irritating not knowing where they had gone or when they were coming back. A simple text or note would have done!!!

in this case appart from the note, I think op could have got herself out of the car. She is an adult and it sounds like she just fell asleep while her partner was driving her to her lunches. I might be a bit annoyed by that too.

You know the saying ‘when people show you who they are believe them’

He didn’t give any thought to you and honestly I would be furious with him.

Tessabelle74 · 20/06/2023 22:02

I think he assumed you were in a strop and sulking in the car because tbh I've no idea how you been slept through them all getting out of the car, so I can imagine he thought you were awake and ignoring him!

BaconChops · 20/06/2023 23:23

Your husband sounds like a petty dick.

WotsitsMadeIn1927 · 21/06/2023 01:00

Regardless whether it would have done any harm or not, it does appear to have been done on purpose so don’t let that fact invalidate your feelings.

Cariadm · 21/06/2023 01:03

You're asking whether or not you are being unreasonable regarding the behaviour of your husband who you know and we don't so it's very hard to judge if you're used to this sort of what might be considered cavalier and slightly callous treatment then you are indeed not being unreasonable BUT, if has been suggested, he was just being considerate and leaving you to nap a little longer then yes you are! 🙄It has to be said that for whatever reason he did this it was NOT ideal to leave you in full sunshine with no ventilation to the car? Let's face it some men (and women!) are petty, small minded dicks so he could well have done it in spite because you rowed, or not? Surely whether you are being unreasonable or not depends on whether this is his normal expected behaviour that you must be aware of and willing or not to accept?! 😳

You're an adult, not a child. Unless there is a drip feed of him locking you in, then I think you need to take some responsibility.

How did you sleep through your husband and children leaving the car? I mean he could have tried to wake you, as you clearly sleep through alot of noise.

Actually quick google and….

is a risky condition that can lead to severe tissue damage or even death. This can happen when carbon monoxide builds up in your bloodstream. Carbon monoxide can easily poison you, your family, and your pets. This chemical compound is even more hazardous when you are sleeping inside the vehicle.

EcoChica1980 · 21/06/2023 13:51

Oh give over.

You're not a dog. You weren't locked in. People fall asleep in hot places all the time and they manage to survive it.
