to be annoyed at 'lactivists'

I have just seen on face book that 'lactivists' are planning on making stickers that say '100% mummy's milk' to put on bottles of expressed milk just so that the world knows that they are not formula feeding (horror of horrors!) how SMUG is this? And how judgemental of people that cannot breastfeed for whatever reason??!!!

I've been and looked at the Facebook page. It is a sticker to put on the side of the bottles that states it is breastmilk and carries the international symbol for breastfeeding. It allows carers like childminders and nurseries to identify what is in the bottle. Why on earth is that problematic?

sounds like a bit of fun to me. is that not allowed?

harpsichordcarrier · 01/07/2010 19:21

yeah yeah, course they are
AND squirting in the face of formula feeding mothers too. I wouldn't wonder.
yeah, that's even more likely.

runnybottom · 01/07/2010 19:21

Give us a link then.

Ariesgirl · 01/07/2010 19:21

Ridiculous. YANBU.

Breast feeding Nazis really wind me up.

harpsichordcarrier · 01/07/2010 19:24

oh yes of course I forgot:
lactivists are rounding up formula feeders and sending them in their millions to their death in concentration camps.
with their babies too.
because they're like, NAZIS, you know?
ffs

You lose ariesgirl.

chibi · 01/07/2010 19:26

Oh yes Nazis

good old genocide!
You know, it used to really fuck me off when people glibly referred to Nazis when they meant to say something else that didn't trivialise the death and suffering of millions

I used to ask for their post to be deleted

leave it up, I say now

let everyone see what an ignorant, pathetic, jackass you are, saves them the trouble of actually having to read, let alone give a shit about what you write

hth!!

Ariesgirl · 01/07/2010 19:27

I am using the same phrase my best friend used when she was reduced to tears by some mothers who gave her grief when she started bottle feeding after expressing what amounted to blood. But the word Nazi was inappropriate - I apologise and will put in another way: smug, judgmental breast feeding fanatics really wind me up.

thisisyesterday · 01/07/2010 19:28

hang on, maybe ariesgirl really does mean breast feeding Nazis

nazis who breastfeed? there are bound to be some around. breastfeeding neo-nazis too i shouldn't wonder and breastfeeding BNP supporters

they wind me up too, but i think that's a whole other thread

or maybe she means breast feeding nazis
you know, when you find a little lost nazi and you breast feed it til its mummy comes back?

BuzzingNoise · 01/07/2010 19:28

YANBU.

harpsichordcarrier · 01/07/2010 19:29

bizarrely enough, I heard a story yesterday explaining a good reason for these stickers.
my friend said she brought home a bottle from nursery of unused milk and fed it to her ds before she realised it wasn't her expressed milk but someone else's formula.
She was not happy because - for very good medical reasons - she was avoiding formula.
begs the question - which baby got the bm

sungirltan · 01/07/2010 19:29

i wouldn't want anyone to think i was giving my dd formula. not that i even express but still. but thats my choice and if i say its my choice or best for me blah blah then you can't flame me

usualsuspect · 01/07/2010 19:29

Maybe ff should but a big red cross on their bottles ,just so people can judge

twinterror · 01/07/2010 19:29

Nope - not for nurseries - its so everyone can see that they are feeding their babies 'liquid gold'.

Its interesting that some posters have automatically formed the view that I bottle fed or gave formula just because I find the lactivist stickers annoying without finding out the facts! 'bottle feeding guilt' -do me a favour

lol at chibi and thisisyesterday

hocuspontas · 01/07/2010 19:31

I'm sure if it was just for identification purposes it would just say - 'Gemma's bottle - don't reheat' or something. '100% mummy's milk' is naff.

sungirltan · 01/07/2010 19:33

do agree that 'mummys milk' is twee on toast. just 'breastmilk' is less cringey

chibi · 01/07/2010 19:34

Seriously, ff is the absolute majority way to feed babies in the uk

that is except in those places where it is merely an overwhelming majority way to feed babies

harpsichordcarrier · 01/07/2010 19:34

why not allow those who express and breastfeed a little pride in what they do? after all, it isn't always easy.
how about a little tolerance, and kindness, and understanding maybe?
just a thought.

MillyR · 01/07/2010 19:34

OP, you are talking nonsense. Here is the quote from the person who first suggested the sticker:

'The International Breastfeeding logo makes more sense. It's about the care-giver opening the fridge and seeing instantly what's in the bottle.'

harpsichordcarrier · 01/07/2010 19:38

oh stop it MillyR - you are spoiling the righteous indignation with this insistence on the TRUTH...
it is OBVIOUSLY to be SMUG and JUDGEMENTAL! of course.
