Thank you. I suppose I was worried that the children were just saying what the adults were thinking - "Yuk! What is that thing on it's head" usually I knew Mumsnet would tell it to me straight if DD's birthmark really needed covering up.

Glad I'm not going to have to resort to the silly head bands until her hair grows

Jamieandhismagictorch · 25/05/2010 08:35

goldensnitch - what beautiful big eyes your dd has

SirBoobAlot · 25/05/2010 09:08

Snitch, I clicked onto your photos and the first thing that caught my notice was how big and beautiful her eyes are in those photos. It was only after - because you mentioned it - I looked for the mark! She's lovely (and has a fantastic "Do not mess with me" look in the picture with the spoon ) - and bugger anyone that tells you differently!

Joonbug · 25/05/2010 10:14

Chavtastic!

GoldenSnitch · 25/05/2010 10:20

Thank you everyone. Feel better now. Hijack over

piprabbit · 25/05/2010 10:23

Did everyone see that you can actually get a wig attached to your baby's headband?

Might as well go the whole hog IMO.

SirBoobAlot · 25/05/2010 10:27

Piprabbit - bloody hell! That actually horrible Their philosophy states that they "believe in the beauty of childhood". So is that to say that babies who don't have much hair are not beautiful?

GoldenSnitch · 25/05/2010 10:36

The baby on the first page looks a lot cuter without the wig!!

I love the fact that "what people are saying" is empty - probably cause what everyone is saying is "WTF!! "

Jamieandhismagictorch · 25/05/2010 12:41

OMFuckingG. That's just what I was ranting earlier. What is this obsession with appearance - starting on a girl that young. Like the worst possible thing would be for a girl baby to be mistaken for a boy. And all that "sprinkled with magic" guff. Blerk

Clary · 25/05/2010 13:14

Oh piprabbit that is icky in the extreme.

especially the little box abotu magic moments etc. Why is a baby with no hair not pretty? That's just horrid!

ShowOfHands · 25/05/2010 13:32

DN was 5 months old when db and sil got married and was entirely bald. She had a candy pink thing with pearls and glitter on it fastened around her bald head. Looked like a novelty-I'm mad me-make mine a Lambrini-themed hen night garter. I couldn't stop looking at it. SIL cooed 'isn't it lovely' and I tried very hard not to ask how it had got from an 80s themed bar in Hull and an inebriated corned beef thigh, all the way to a Norfolk wedding.

TiggyR · 25/05/2010 13:32

Me too. A woman I met at anti-natal (17 years ago) had a very bald, very large, chunky little girl. She dressed her in leopard skin leggings and matching headband with an enormous bow on the front, and baby Nike trainers, which meant the poor child couldn't crawl properly - she had to drag her feet around behind her, like they'd been encased in of concrete.

CoteDAzur · 25/05/2010 13:52

YANBU. They are pointless and the mark of daft mum.

Dress your DD all in pink, if you are worried they will be mistaken for boys.

oska · 25/05/2010 14:12

Oh god, they look awful and so do their associated glittery grips and bobbles for two tufts of hair. Although not as bad as pierced ears though - why why why???

Heifer · 25/05/2010 14:12

Oh soooo agreed.

It's a real deal breaker on being friends with someone who does that!

Croc wearing I can just about tolerate, but sickly cutsie, headbandy naffness I can't.

Not a fan of the pineapple head either, but I do have a MN mate that does this to her little one, so guess it's not such a deal breaker

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 25/05/2010 14:18

I too have a very hairy DD (pic on profile)

If I don't put a clip / band in her hair she cannot see for all the hair in her eyes.

So she spends a lot of her time as a pineapple head

If she didn't have hair, then no way would I do this. Those huge hairbands that look like a branch of Claire's has thrown up on a child are not good.

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 25/05/2010 14:21

Hideous. Last baby I saw wearing a pointless pink headband (and matching dummy on a chain I might add!!!) was at our 6 week check at the doctors. Her mother asked the HV on the way out if she could "get her ears pierced now?"

Kind of paints a picture doesn't it?

Doozie · 25/05/2010 14:31

Super naff. I deduct 50 IQ points off the parents when I see one on a baby.

It not just bald babies that they're inflicted upon. My baby was born with loads of wild, unruly hair and I was given two of those ugly hairbands as gifts to try to 'girlify' her hair. The 'givers' are no longer on the Xmas card list...

I can tell when you ping them out the window they can travel quite a distance.

bratnav · 25/05/2010 14:35

Yeesh they are hideous, I can't stand them.

Not a chav thing at all, LOADS of the yummy mummies where I live have them on their babies, saw a couple at Sing and Sign this morning, I just want to take them off the babies and burn them

thumbwitch · 25/05/2010 14:37

Can't bear them unless they are functionally holding the hair back/out of the way.

Piprabbit - that website is Just Plain Wrong.

sungirltan · 25/05/2010 14:40

baby hairbands are ganking. they are right up there with those absurd bonnets with all swansdown and crap on them

whippybamboo · 25/05/2010 14:41

I agree, i think they look horrible, like when babies have their ears pierced

Worz · 25/05/2010 14:51

I think they are naff too, but in saying that I never put bands or clips in my daughter's hair when she was little (it was very fine and I was over protective about her stabbing her eyes with clips).

She is now 5 years old and trying to put her hair up for school is a nightmare - she hates clips and bands ......... mmmmmm

my fault?
