it really annoys me when i see cute little babies wearing chav elastic hairbands, why oh why do people put them on there babies when they have no hair, it looks stupid!!!!!!!!! argggggggggggggggg.x

OP posts:
venusonarockbun · 24/05/2010 18:23

I agree - they are horrid stupid-looking things. Absolutely pointless and must drive the poor babies to distraction.

sallyJayGorce · 24/05/2010 18:26

I'm intrigued as to how they keep them on. None of my three would wear a hat - always pulled them off.

MrsFawlty · 24/05/2010 18:28

YANBU - hideous.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 24/05/2010 18:31

it's to deflect attention from their wee baldy heads

pixiestix · 24/05/2010 18:39

I asked my mate about this once when her DD was wearing one - apparently her ears stick out and it was a vain bid to pin them into shape!! Ingenious!!

But there is no other excuse for them. Urgh.

When I was pg, I read an article (or it may have been in some book or other) that said something along the lines of "don't put baby girls in those headband things. They make babies look like demented Easter Eggs". Have never been able to look at a baby wearing one without thinking that (and secretly agreeing)

TruthSweet · 24/05/2010 18:53

Years ago I was on the American Babycenter and read a thread about a woman gluing bows to her baby's head! [Hmm] I have never forgotten it.

blackflyinyourchardonnay · 24/05/2010 18:56

My DN(1) wears one, but she is deaf and it holds her hearing aids in, so it's allowed.

On other babies, (I have double standards) it looks a bit silly, but not as silly as the tuft of hair in a hairband at the top of an almost bald babies head- that makes me giggle!

I did do it to DS once, for my own amusement at home

MrsFawlty · 24/05/2010 18:57

rofl@ evil

BetsyBoop · 24/05/2010 19:17

YANBU, they are particularly naff as well as being totally pointless

Fibilou · 24/05/2010 20:28

Phew, I thought it was just me as I have a bit of a thing about inappropriate childrens' clothing

Hairbands on hairless babies - vile.

stressheaderic · 24/05/2010 21:32

My 13 week old DD has thick hair that is 4 inches long at the back. We get stopped and asked about it probably 10 times a day...
She has worn a little clip to keep it to the side, as the 'fringe' gets in her eyes, but hairbands...not for me.

oldandgreynow · 24/05/2010 21:53

I think the picture of the premmie fat owl posted, is of a baby wearing a hat not a headband

Meglet · 24/05/2010 21:58

no hair = no need for hairband.

Surely it's just a battle of wills to keep the hairband on? My DD won't even wear a hat, let alone something in her hair.

GoldenSnitch · 24/05/2010 22:27

We got one with a sun dress I bought a couple of weeks ago. I toyed with the idea of putting it on DD for about 5 minutes as she has a large strawberry mark on her head 9pic on profile) and we've had some nasty comments/disgusted stares from some children - the band would have covered it and made her look "normal".

Luckily I came to my senses quickly and remembered that DD is beautiful and the children's comments aren't meant horribly.

I always thought they looked really twee and naf.

itsybitsy08 · 24/05/2010 22:45

Awah i like the ones that are fabric (more of a head scarf type) and match pretty tunics and dresses!

Not to keen on the elasticated ones with flower and beading though!

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2010 23:00

There are people in here THAT LIKE THEM?!?! Really?!?!

But they are truely chavvy and just.... nasty. They are all about 'Oooh, look at my ickle baby girl - isn't she just the cutest princess!'

Yukkity yuk yuk.

petisa · 24/05/2010 23:04

Agree with itsybitsy - like the cute bandanas that match dresses for toddlers (but can see one being ripped off in ten seconds flat in this house)

HATE the pink elasticated ones with a big bow/flower, they look ridiculous!

Clary · 24/05/2010 23:06

Yes someone gave me one when DD was small.

I thought wtf? and binned it. And she did have hair.

There are always loads of em in the local paper's Baby of the Year contest

izzybiz at yr DD's hair as a newborn!!!

Did you used to get people stop and tell you yr baby had lots of hair? DS1 had blond curls as a baby, it looked like a wig lol. Folk used to stop me in Sainsbos and tell me about it

SirBoobAlot · 24/05/2010 23:16

They're horrible. They make me cringe. Ugh!!

Izzy your daughter has amazing hair

And Snitch - your little girl is stunning. She doesn't need a headband to help that along

BritFish · 24/05/2010 23:38

they are a bit naff on babies with no hair. when they do have hair though, they can be really cute. especially the ones with silly floppy flowers on them!

but i have a more pressing question, why are we not allowed to make fun of chavs? is it because some people on here seem to think that all chavs live in council houses and therefore mocking them is snobby?

Rockbird · 24/05/2010 23:43

GoldenSnitch you are obviously just looking for compliments re your gorgeous daughter She's lovely (and so is your ds)

marenmj · 25/05/2010 00:06

when I was a baby (in America, admittedly) they glued little pink bows in the girls' hair at the hospital before sending them home. Mom used to put a bow in each of her girls' hair for church.

Twas "glued" with a small dab of golden syrup btw. Clearly only for the first few weeks when babies sleep beautifully and are there to be admired by other parishoners .

DD won't wear a hat -have never tried a hairband- and is obsessed with pulling out hairclips meant to pin up her shaggy fringe and chewing on them.

My American friends simply CANNOT believe that a hairband is considered anything but adorable, especially the ones with a flower the size of the poor mite's head on top. Boak.

izzybiz · 25/05/2010 07:52

goldensnitch Your Dd is absolutely beautiful!

clary we used to get stopped all the time, I remember being in a coffee shop once holding Dd and people were pointing at her through the window!
Even on holiday in Spain when she was 8 weeks, the locals would stop us to look at her!

All 3 of mine have been hairy, but she by far was my hairiest!
