that's it really. I don't even 100% know why but I can't stand them. Some reasons are they are horrible colours and ridiculously expensive, unnecessary to spend that surely? And it seems to me (round here anyway) that BugaBoo owners are v smug - "only the best for my children" types. Someone I know insisted on getting one and they have so little money that half the time she can't afford to even get on a bus to do anything, so she and her kid sit inside all day, pretty much every day. Better to get a cheaper travel system and let the poor child get some fresh air IMHO... ooh, they just really make my blood boil. Happy to be put straight by proud BugaBoo owners

I've got one but would never pay full price. Got it second hand on ebay. I love it but am not smug about it. Mine is not garish. It's black - and it's an older model (frog).

SirBoobAlot · 18/05/2010 20:53

Don't have an opinion on them personally - though I have a friend who I sit with having tea sometimes and whenever (inevitably) a group of them go past, she always says in a loud whisper, "Look, its the Bugaboo Crew! Quick, hide the second hand buggies..." Makes me chuckle

traceybath · 18/05/2010 20:54

I have one - used for 2 dc's - oh yes, I'm terribly smug .

Honestly - why do you care? I could afford it and got lots of use out of it.

compo · 18/05/2010 20:55

could your friend be depressed?
it costs nothing to go to the park
maybe you could offer to go with her rather than judge her for staying inside all day
maybe she feels isolated

MoneyNoPockets · 18/05/2010 20:55

there are many other pushchairs more expensive that a bugaboo chameleon.

As she has a pushchair it costs nothing to go for a walk, no reason to stay indoors.

TheCrackFox · 18/05/2010 20:57

They are very expensive.

LordVolAuVent I too think your friend may well be depressed. Afterall Bugaboos are made for long walks and there is no reason for your friend to stay in all day.

WingedVictory · 18/05/2010 20:58

That's very sad, about the financial restrictions resulting from her pram choice. Poor kid.

nowherewoman · 18/05/2010 20:58

I wouldn't recognise one if it bit me on the arse

Yep, definitely suffering from Pram Envy.

I love ours - it's probably done about 4000 miles.

I have no problem with the colour black, ladylush, a lot I see seem to be bright red or blue.
I do offer to go with her, compo. In fact when I go to see them, I take my DS to the park as he goes a bit crazy if cooped up and she never wants to come (her LO is a bit young for doing anything at the park to be fair, but I go mad if I don't get out). She may be depressed, but I don't think so. No reason for her to feel isolated, she has friends and family close.
I don't know why I care, it is really weird and I wish I didn't, but they do really get on my nerves (I know IABU really!)

SloanyPony · 18/05/2010 21:05

I have one. I have had so much use out of it I really have. Lots of other people I know had various systems for their babies as newborns but ended up buying second buggies like a Maclaren etc and have various different ones in the garage for each "type" of outing but my Bugaboo does everything I need it to do. They spent more than me in the end.

Another thing is often parents of people having babies will offer to pay for the pram or contribute towards it. Its not always the case that someone has used up a big chunk of savings getting one.

Smugness will occur or not depending on whether a person is smug, not depending on what pushchair they chose.

As for thinking they are ugly or similar - they all kind of are, aren't they? I've not really seen a pushchair I like the look of, they are transport, they get you from A to B.

YABU but you needn't feel you have to buy one!

Ewe · 18/05/2010 21:05

It's a pushchair, people choose the one they think fits them best and can't really be held responsible for your friends poor judgement call when buying her own pram. She shouldn't have bought something she can't afford, there will almost always be someone who has a more expensive/better whatever than you.

I have a Stokke Xplory which I think has similar connotations, people think they look silly and are very overpriced. FFS it's just a pushchair, how can anyone muster up the energy to care?!

ginhag · 18/05/2010 21:05

I've got one. They are very good in the early weeks when you are so sleep deprived you keep bashing into walls etc. Although our does show the evidence of this

So far it has lasted getting on for 2.5 years with no 'extra' pushchair that lots of people seem to buy. And I like it because ds faces me and we can chat when out and about.

I don't think you would think I was a smug mummy if you saw me with the bugaboo though. It is always very grubby, full of sand and covered in peeling stickers...

I can't imagine being bothered about anyone else's pushchair, any more than I would have any interest at all in what car they drove. I do hate the thought that someone would think differently about me because of it... and that I am feeling compelled to justify the price by saying it was from ebay etc...

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:06

I SOOOOO do not have bug envy, how dare you suggest it????
Why wouldn't I get one if I wanted one? I'm minted

OP posts:
ladylush · 18/05/2010 21:08

ikwym ginhag - I do feel I have to say I got it from ebay

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:09

Fair points SloanyPony and Ginhag, they are good reasons for getting one.

And you're right, smug will always be smug, but do smug buy BugaBoo more often...?

OP posts:
sungirltan · 18/05/2010 21:15

oooh inverted snobbery!!

come on then op - what was your choice of pram so we may judge you? ;-)

moonstorm · 18/05/2010 21:16

YABU

I have a Bugaboo Gecko (really old now . Didn't really like the look of it, but it fitted our needs ie had all the features we wanted (was certainly not the most expensive by far). I am soo glad I bought it. It's been used for 3 years, hardly any wear and is going to be used for the next. I can see us getting at least 6 years use out of it. Some of my other friends are on their second pushchair. Yes they look strange, but they are workhorses.

I also hope noone judges me for using it.

dulciejones · 18/05/2010 21:16

I have a Bugaboo and a Phil&Ted. The Bugaboo is excellent when they're newborn but is absolutely no use off road. You need proper tyres for that. So no walking in the woods etc. But the P&T is great for that.

Knickers0nMyHead · 18/05/2010 21:17

YANBU they are shite.

Not sure what one is to be honest. Are they the ones that are about £750 new? We spent a little while researching prams on internet and have ended up with a second hand M&P one my parents bought off a lady in Waitrose! They offered us a new one as well, and to keep the old one at their house but the idea seemed way too silly. Guess I won't have much pram cred when I hit the streets then...
