to hate the BugaBoo (or however you spell it)

that's it really. I don't even 100% know why but I can't stand them. Some reasons are they are horrible colours and ridiculously expensive, unnecessary to spend that surely? And it seems to me (round here anyway) that BugaBoo owners are v smug - "only the best for my children" types. Someone I know insisted on getting one and they have so little money that half the time she can't afford to even get on a bus to do anything, so she and her kid sit inside all day, pretty much every day. Better to get a cheaper travel system and let the poor child get some fresh air IMHO... ooh, they just really make my blood boil. Happy to be put straight by proud BugaBoo owners

dulcieones - when we go walking properly we use a macpac, not a pram, so don't have that problem.

But I find the Gecko, which is just the Cameleon in smaller, really useful in the situations I described earlier. In the deep snow in the beginning of the year it was fantastic.

I also loike that it's not that big, as my husband and I are both short-arses who live in a small house.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/05/2010 21:43

I have one and I love it. It has done miles, we took it skiing with us and it was great even in the snow. You just swap the wheels round and then it's able to go over more rugged ground.

bearcrumble - I could not be more different from the woman you describe. IME those kind of women are often seen with an M&P 'something', not having had the imagination to think of anything else.

Everyone I know has bought another buggy once their baby is 12/18 months, apart from people with Bugaboos who are still going strong. DS is going to be 2 in a couple of months and we still have no plans to replace ours.

tethersend · 18/05/2010 21:43

LordVolAuVent, I feel your pain. Every time I see a Birkenstock, a small part of me dies inside.

It's just that slating a choice of pram is somehow so much more emotive than slating a shoe- and I'm not sure why...

mamatomany · 18/05/2010 21:46

You always feel sorry for M&P pram pushers because you know they've spent £800 and will not even use the seat unit before it hits ebay.

scottishmummy · 18/05/2010 21:46

got the limited edition denim bug.keep price tags on.wind up the rubber neckers

still i wouldnt want a rattly cart that chops on fingers in puddle grey with snot colour comfort pack and matching footmuff

withorwithoutyou · 18/05/2010 21:47

Three of my RL friends have one of these and all three people are lovely.

I remember looking at them when I was pregnant first time round and I couldn't get my head around the fact that I had to spend money on all kinds of extras like matching fleeces and fixtures for the car seat on top of the huge layout for the pushchair.

We got a m&p pramette with a car seat for £300 and a maclaren in the Boots sale for £60 and I've never had any problems with either.

I think the bugaboos with the parent facing pushchair seat look great and I can see why people would want them. I am just too tight to spend £££££ on them when there are plenty of other things that do just as well.

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:47

I don't assume, I know some people with a BugaBoo and they are smug people. Of course everyone who owns a BugaBoo is not smug. But most are
I wish I didn't waste the energy with my pointless hatred of the thing, but I can't help it. They bother me so. I think the celeb thing is why they first became popular and that's part of what bothers me Imarriedafrog, is it so good, or is it just because of Gwyneth?

whats with all the rude remarks?

i personally hate plastic tanks of a pram that look tacky imo

bugaboo, light to push especially holding my elder childrens hands, amazing to push with buggy board none of that lascal goes where it wants crap, looks nice, i have been able to replace pink with blue (shoot me) comfortable for my ds, rear faces, maxi cosi goes straight on no fuss great for school run, lasts very well, and hey when i sell it on i get a great re sale price

and yes it looks good! its fashionable... why would i deny that? and yes i have highlighted blonde hair...

oh and my bag is a pink lining one does that count

ruddynorah · 18/05/2010 21:49

i love mine. i have a bee. and i got it on ebay.

withorwithoutyou · 18/05/2010 21:49

Mamatomany we've had our M&P pram for nearly two years now and it's great, no problems at all. Didn't cost anywhere near £800 though - those ones looked like a right waste of money to me.

dulciejones · 18/05/2010 21:49

WW, the Phil & Ted gave us everything we were looking for. At home DC2 walked most places so the Bugaboo was great for DC3.

However, on long walks, it was great to have the flexibility that when her little legs tired she could hop in the back.

I loved the Bugaboo when the were tiny. I loved them being flat and facing me. It moved around town with ease. However, with 2 under 3 plaus a 5yr old, the P&T cannot be beaten. (even my 5yr old would climb in the back occassionaly) It also comes with a wrist strap.

madmissy · 18/05/2010 21:51

people who go off roading have to try the mountain buggy!

catinboots · 18/05/2010 21:52

I love my bugaboo. I love my pink lining bag. I revel in the fact I can afford them now with DS2. Ten years ago when I had DS1 I was a skint student. My Graco was a bulky pile of shit and my argos changing bag was about as useful as a carrier bag. What's so wrong with an appreciation of quality??

mamatomany · 18/05/2010 21:53

Ah that's the pramette (I have one of those too ) the big old M&P's with the matching everything which don't get me wrong look fantastic and must be dead comfortable for the baby in carrycot mode pop up on ebay with the envitiable "only used for 8 weeks, like new" yadda yadda

Love my Bee - knew nothing about prams when I bought it, just went into the shop and bought the most suitable for our circumstances - essentially we needed something small so we could travel with it back to the UK and to France to see my sister.

Never bought a McLaren, but bought a P&T Sport when I had a second... still use the Bee when I can as it's light & easy to fold.

I'm not a yummy mummy - I look like I had 2 kids 15 months apart! Hair isn't cut, let alone highlighted...

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:55

So how many bugaboos are there? And why are they named after such odd animals/reptiles?

The Birkenstock, tethersend, is definitely up there with a BugaBoo in the hatred stakes. Don't know why it upsets someone that I don't like their pram. Probably upsets them that I think them smug, if they're not. But your choices say something about you, whether you like it or not.

why dont you look on J.Lewis website if so curious about bugaboo

faddle · 18/05/2010 21:57

I loathed bugaboo with a passion when I had DS (now aged 5.5) and I couldnt envisage spending that amount of money on a mere pram. 5.5 years and about a thousand prams later, I admit, yes, bugaboo really ARE the nicest pram to push that I've ever found, and even coped with the bad snow we had earlier in the year. They are incredibly hard wearing, and hold their value very well - I bought one for £200, used it for 6 months and then sold it for £250.............. then bought another one after a week because I couldnt stand pushing the umberella type piece of tat I replaced it with.
I'm afraid I loathe maclaren type pushchairs, and find them a bit naff really (very smug) but I concede that for some people, they really do fit the bill and do everything they need, so each to their own.
I am a pram hun by the way, so do feel free to mock..........
and no, I dont have bright garish colours on my bugaboo, I have CUSTOM bright garish colours, all matching, even down to the pink diamante tyre caps.......

withorwithoutyou · 18/05/2010 21:57

mamatomany I think I know the ones you mean - herbie/skate that type of thing.

Anything which has bits that have to be taken on and off (including wheels) is out in my book.

That's cos I'm lazy

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/05/2010 21:58

Oh come on someone put a link on so us oldsters with the Maclaren Quests can see what you're all on about ...

madmissy · 18/05/2010 22:01

Well I will smugly love my pram, my bag and my highlights!
Rather that than looking like I don't try...

PosyPetrovaPauline · 18/05/2010 22:01
