to hate the BugaBoo (or however you spell it)

that's it really. I don't even 100% know why but I can't stand them. Some reasons are they are horrible colours and ridiculously expensive, unnecessary to spend that surely? And it seems to me (round here anyway) that BugaBoo owners are v smug - "only the best for my children" types. Someone I know insisted on getting one and they have so little money that half the time she can't afford to even get on a bus to do anything, so she and her kid sit inside all day, pretty much every day. Better to get a cheaper travel system and let the poor child get some fresh air IMHO... ooh, they just really make my blood boil. Happy to be put straight by proud BugaBoo owners

I second SloanyPony's point - I only made up my mind to buy one when I was in John Lewis while pregnant and a mum said to me that she's had ten other buggies before her Bugaboo, and it was better than all of them and she wishes she'd started with it instead. Lots of people end up getting Maclarens because they find their old first buggy impractical, whereas I'm glad to still be able to have my ds rear-facing with no impracticality.

However, to your last point LVAV - one of my childless friends friends said, when she first saw my choice of buggy, that "I knew you'd be a Bugaboo person". What did that mean? And why on earth did she know so much about buggy brands and their typical owners?!?

scottishmummy · 18/05/2010 21:29

you protest too much!methinky bitty jealous but wont admit

its a pram (admittedly v good pram)but just a pram.if you chose to attribute such silly labels to it thats your beef

i have 3 and they have been fantastic.worth every penny and hold resale value well

ooosabeauta · 18/05/2010 21:29

Rasputin the wonderful thing about the Bugaboo is that you can share metaphysical poetry with your dc face-to-face - 'stylish' buggy and poetry needn't be mutually exclusive

WidowWadman · 18/05/2010 21:30

dulcie jones - which bugaboo do you have? We have the Gecko and if you take the small wheels off and put it into 2 wheel ode it's perfect for sand, deep snow ad rougher terrain, in the wood we usually just put the bigger wheels to the front, that's enough.

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:31

I have to be honest, I didn't realise there were so many types of BugaBoo. Do they all look the same? The ones round here do. Perhaps I've been hasty, clearly more research is needed, I may only hate one type. When I was looking for a pram the BugaBoo was extremely expensive (new), but perhaps there are cheaper models, I am willing to stand corrected.

Sungirl, I didn't need a pram, I never walk, I am driven everywhere in a rolls. Judge away, it's only fair, I am very judgey

Can't stand them myself.

Not sure that they do do everything though, they aren't allowed at DD1's nursery as take up too much room in the buggy store so the Bugaboo owners have had to buy Maclarens too.

scottishmummy · 18/05/2010 21:32

I have a brown one- bought all the parts on ebay and assembled them myself; hey presto! A Cameleon for £150.

I love them.

I also love white stilettos. I don't expect everyone else to. Isn't it the same?

ginhag · 18/05/2010 21:34

Mine is a Bugaboo Scuzzy. Has lots of extra features including stains of uncertain origin, sand and twigs.

bearcrumble · 18/05/2010 21:35

I think Bugaboo owners are quite smug. They always seem to be the women with a headful of blonde highlights who buy everything the same as everyone else of their type (probably have a Cath Kidston changing bag slung over the handles as well).

scottishmummy · 18/05/2010 21:36

everyone at my nursery has bugaboo.never seen a finger chopping maclaren at all

stressheaderic · 18/05/2010 21:36

No Lord - I'm right with you. Can't stand em. Don't know why - they just seem so showy, especially round my way where some Jermey Kyle type will be pushing one round Asda with a basket full of Smartprice beans perced atop.
Second-hand eBay owning ones I will tolerate. I have a big ol' Silver Cross as I like my baby to be able to stretch out and lie flat with plenty of space, and I'm an old fashioned pram kinda girl.

Hate the cream one the most

tethersend · 18/05/2010 21:36

I accessorise mine with white stilletos. I haven't come across any Cath Kidson ones though.

dulciejones · 18/05/2010 21:37

Hi, WW. I have a Cameleon. We go on walking hols and stuff and whilst it's great in many ways, IMO, it just doesn't cut it through the mud and over grass etc. I guess it would be fine on a very flat path through some trees but it's just so heavy to push off road. P&T is so much better even with 2 in there.

madmissy · 18/05/2010 21:37

I LOVE mine!

LordVolAuVent · 18/05/2010 21:38

But what is so good about it? Genuine question. It's not the only pram where you can face your child is it? I know it's not actually, so you don't have to answer that if you don't want. The little tiny wheels at the front scare me a little bit, if I'm honest. And it is strangely low. I know Gwyneth Paltrow had one too, and that puts me off.

It is pretty much the same thing as the white stilettos, yes, tethersend, and I'm not suggesting people don't buy them if that's what they want, I just can't help but hate them. I don't scream abuse in the street or anything. I just seethe quietly. I am a v unreasonable person in many ways

i think they are foul - and you can never see the children inside them so I guess they can't see out either.

And is it just me or are they very low to the ground, especially in pram mode ?

ooosabeauta · 18/05/2010 21:38

Yes that's what I would have liked to have done for longer too Rasputin - I admit I was pushing the buggy and holding ds for the first 6 months as he didn't like lying down, so not great value for those months, but he was blooming heavy from then on, and happier in the pushchair bit - you're obviously fitter than me if you could carry on! Oh I do miss those days of him wanting me to carry him around, whispering in his ears [nostalgic face]

scottishmummy · 18/05/2010 21:40

curious for apparently hating bug some of you can fair bang on about it,its colours, bags casually slung over it etc

spend a lot of time gawping do you?

envy is terrible things lassies

i couldnt tell you about other prams as i never look.why would i with a fleet of bugaboos?

mamatomany · 18/05/2010 21:40

I have quite a selection of prams and tbh have tried them all, the Bugaboo is by far the best and I would go on beans on toast to buy one new (can't stand the thought of 2nd hand probably because I know what's happened to mine).

If somebody is staying in all day with their child it's nothing to do with no money/spending too much on a pram, the library is free as is the park. Perhaps the poor girl is fed up/depressed ?

I hate the fact you can buy them on ebay so much cheaper! That really lowers the standard.
