that's it really, I was really shocked and went into a bit of a rant. I can't believe someone I've been intimate with and been close to would vote bnp.

Tell your
boyfriend to take a hike. He's a bnp supporter, you say. It really is a no brainer!

You're kind of missing my point. The two are not comparable because..

a) the BNP have always been associated with racism. That has been their main characteristic for as long as I can remember, and I'm sure beyond.

b) The Muslim faith's main characteristic has always been belief in Allah and the main tenets of the religion.

With me so far?

Therefore the majority of people join the BNP due to it's racist characteristics. And the majority of people join Islam because of the belief in Allah and the main tenets of the religion.

So for someone to join the Islamic faith for reasons not in harmony with the main teachings of the religion, eg. terrorism, that would be going against the grain. Agree?

And by the same logic, most people who join the BNP are doing so based on it's most well known characteristic. So it's highly likely that most BNP supporters will agree with the main characteristic.

Hence my comment about vegetarians. The main characteristic is a belief that eating meat is bad for whatever reason, therefore you'd have to be a bit strange to say you are a vegetarian despite believing the opposite.

It's stereotyping in as much as saying someone who joins a church is a Christian, true there may be some exceptions, but for the majority it is true. And a non-Christian who joins a church wouldn't then be offended by being called a Christian, seeing as they choose to surroud themselves with Christians.

TSH....you would be, but you would be wrong.

You can dress them up however you like but it still stands that historically, and actually, their supporters are racist homophobes. I cannot believe a party built upon bigoted and despicable foundations is a palace of equality and honesty, that has turned it's back upon their most loyal activists.

Aren't we a democracy??? I thought freedom of speach and opinions where something that shouldn't be judged by everyone else. The way I see it isn't judging someone on their political views the lead back into fascism? Exactly what people are saying the BNP are. I dont personally agree with Labour but i'm not making a big song and dance and judging the people who do vote for them. And if I am going to get critiscised for my own personal view then thats my point proven.

runnybottom · 06/05/2010 14:59

"And if an individuals vote is based entirely on manifesto policies, I would be reluctant to automatically brand them a "racist"."

even though the manifesto is obviously racist? Theres barely a part of it that isn't.

Judging someone on their political views is called life, not facism. How can you not judge a BNP voter?

Disciplined and controlling??? and voting BNP?? sounds like a nazi to me - get out now - your relationship is in the early stages and you will get over it - I truly fear for you if you stay ... Good luck x
