that's it really, I was really shocked and went into a bit of a rant. I can't believe someone I've been intimate with and been close to would vote bnp.

Back to the OP.

I suspect that the only reason the op is still with her boyfriend, is that she sympathises with his views. She might just have a hard time reconciling herself to the fact that as the daughter of a jewish mum she should not be thinking this way.

Am I right to think this? I can see no other explanation.

Daftpunk, thank you for "explaining". Up til now, I did not know your views were so heavily influenced by simply what you have been fed, and shows so little sign of you having applied your own logic to it. I am surprised, because you do now and then speak sense on other topics.

When I was young, much younger, around 18 19, I knew a couple of boys who were extreme right wing. Their views were all the more surprising because they had highly intelligent parents, working in academia. Thinking back I think it was teenage rebellion. Their parents are SO respectable, yet so LIBERAL (professors etc) that the only way they could rebel was to go the other way. Being Gay, or listen to "bad" music wouldnt really repulse their parents, as they were so liberal." There were a lot of talk about stealing weapons from the army and hiding it out in the woods, in case the Russians attacked and they would form their own "home front", or to drive Moroccans out of the country. All very strange. Most of them grew out of it. It is almost absurd to think of a "generation" of people like this growing up, and living, in the UK today, without having left such childish and ill informed views behind.

Zedd · 03/05/2010 14:01

I honestly thought I would be left cringing at this whole thread, but the opposite actually happened. Some really intelligent people who can rationally explain their pov. I think I can learn a lot from here.

posieparker · 03/05/2010 14:22

As the fastest growing population is elderly and most of them are white christian(I would think) how does NG propose to pay for those in care, given that he wants to reduce the tax payers to white people. I would think white people are the largest proportion of unemployed too.....

Chandon · 03/05/2010 14:35

It is a vote of discontent.

Doesn´t make him a nazi. He´s entitled to his opinion. I´d be quite interested in his reasons.

daftpunk · 03/05/2010 14:44

Some of the most interesting intelligent people I've ever met have been BNP supporters....it's a myth that they're all white ignorant thugs...(you get those in all parties anyway)....Liberals all seem to be reading from the same script....you know what they're going to say before they say it....they like to think they know it all,...when in reality they're all a bit confused.

stillfrazzled · 03/05/2010 15:05

DP, that might say more about your circle of acquaintance, no?

smallorange · 03/05/2010 15:21

are these your friends?

Quattrocento · 03/05/2010 15:28

I clicked into your link, smallorange, and ROFL at this typical BNP official's garbage. I mean it is just ludicrous, a joke:

"ON WINSTON CHURCHILL ?Churchill was a f c who led us into a pointless war with other whites standing up for their race.?
ON THE PRINCE OF WALES ?He?s a f* traitor. Did you hear him say we needed more mosques in this country? All Muslims are anti-British terrorists.?
ON WHETHER BRITISH-BORN BLACKS ARE BRITISH ?Just because a dog is brought up in a stable doesn?t make him a horse.?
ON THE ROYAL FAMILY ?The Royals have betrayed their people. When we?re in power they?ll be wiped out and we?ll get some Germans to rule properly.?
ON AIDS A ?friendly disease because blacks, drug users and gays have it.?
ON JEWS ?There?s not a European country the Jews haven?t been thrown out of. When it happens that many times, it?s not just persecution. There?s no smoke without fire.?
ON ADOLF HITLER ?Hitler will live forever; and maybe I will.?

These are your party, DP. Don't they sound like a dimwitted bunch of thugs to you?

Kaloki · 03/05/2010 15:31

Yes DP, I can see that they'd be interesting.. in an "dear god, do they really think like that?" kind of way.

In fact, thinking about it, you are interesting

daftpunk · 03/05/2010 15:32

Nope..I don't know him.

If you take any group of 1000's, it's obvious a few will be a bit mental or even criminal...

The catholic church for example....not all priests are child abusers...

The labour party, another example...Peter Mandelson should really be in prison.

RunawayWife · 03/05/2010 15:34

Just because a dog is brought up in a stable dose not make it a horse LOL ROFLMAO

I love that.... makes note to use it one day

(disclaimer: not in the BNP sort of way)

noddyholder · 03/05/2010 15:35

They are dimwitted thugs and NG even went on national radio and said his own voters were generally thick and ignorant!

smallorange · 03/05/2010 15:42

Mark collete is BNP
director of publicity. He
is not some hanger on. They obviously think he has his finger on the
pulse as far as publicity goes.

Johnny 'mad dog' adair- UVF volunteer. Does that sit well with your Irish catholic credentials ?

These are the people. There are many of them. Are you sure you haven't been seduced by the suits? I know enough about them to actually feel a bit nervous even talking to
you on mumsnet. They are to be taken very seriously indeed.

daftpunk · 03/05/2010 15:43

The British were actually going to do a deal with Hitler, they did'nt want another war after WW1....I'm sure I read that somewhere...?

Also, one of Labours biggest donators said of Hitler

"He got the job done"

If you checked up on everything people say you would be suprised...look at GB last week, just 1 minute of unguarded conversation and we heard what he really thinks...

TSH, you're right people who vote for the BNP are either ignorant of it's policies and roots, racist and/or prejudiced and/or very stupid.

The BNP is not a 'political' persuasion, it's a world view, a thin end of a racist wedge, it's thinking that the best man to run the country is a Nazi Loving, homophobic and despicable man.

oldandgreynow · 03/05/2010 16:25

'TSH, you're right people who vote for the BNP are either ignorant of it's policies and roots, racist and/or prejudiced and/or very stupid.'
How do you know that-the ballot is secret?
Do you remeber the French elections in 2002, In the first round the French national front party got the sercond highest number of votes, about 16% of the electorate compared to 19% for jacques chirac. In the Euro elections I think the BNP got about 15-16% of the vote.
BNP voters are not a scattered few racist thugs they are fast becoming a mainstream political party.

daftpunk · 03/05/2010 16:31

TSH;

I'm more than a little cynical about all the

" I'd leave him if he voted BNP "

I plain don't believe it...

posieparker · 03/05/2010 16:33

But the French are more racist and less tolerant than the British, not really comparable. Trouble with the BNP supporters I know of is that they deny beinhg racist or racially motivated.

As BNP are a collection of racists in politicians clothing and come across as ignorant and pretty stupid in a debate, I would say that it is a prerequisite to be ignorant or stupid....nothing else fits.

Yes, aligning yourself with facists is exactly the same as leaving the toilet seat up.

Freedom, don't you just love it? People are free to vote for whoever they want, and others are free to loathe them and revile them for it.

Its not about knee jerk reactions, and its not about someones political leanings being distasteful. Its about the fundamental core of your character. Anyone who aligns themselves with the BNP is not a person I would spend more than 5 minutes with, let alone my home. They are not just another party, they are not respectable just because they now wear suits instead of white power t-shirts. They are the same facist thugs they have always been.

daftpunk · 03/05/2010 16:37

Has anyone been killed in France, have all the black people been kicked out, have all the homosexuals been gassed..?

France is half run by Fascists

noddyholder · 03/05/2010 16:38

I think I would wonder what had happened to my intuitive skills if I suddenly discovered dp was that way inclined.Such a fundamental difference in morals and politics with a small and big P would probably be the end for me in a relationship.Althpough I left someone in the past because I didn't like his shoes so prob not the best person to ask
