was a woman in asda with a small (maybe 4 months ish) baby, in a pram.. he was crying, she leaned into the pram said "why dont you justshut the fuck up" then turned to her friend and said "he never stops fucking crying"

not only is that not ok (in my book) but her friend didnt look shocked!

We were in the playground area of our local park on Sat and it was packed with little kids as such a nice day. A woman with a boy who must have been 3 or 4 yelled 'Fucking Hell don't you do that again' at her teenage daughter who had presumably done something so very dreadful to merit it - didn't know whether to be more shocked at the fact that she didn't think twice about mouthing off in front of loads of other people's children, or about the fact that the teenager was obviously so used to being spoken to like that that she barely even noticed

Typical of where I live though, no-one said anything to her...

BuzzingNoise · 27/04/2010 17:53

I go to Sainsbury's and I swear occassionnaly. Well, quite a lot actually.

Oh my god I am getting a message that MN is offline.

MegSophandEmma · 27/04/2010 17:55

OMG lost MN there for a second. Thought i'd been banned for being "Riff Raff"!

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/04/2010 17:55

She sounds horrible, op. I am sorry for the baby and sorry that you saw this. Very upsetting. Of course it was just a moment, a snapshot, and she could be the loveliest mother for all we know, but really not very nice to witness all the same.

Whoamireally · 27/04/2010 17:56

Keep going offline too. Perhaps they have spotted me in Asda too

Alouiseg · 27/04/2010 17:56

shadeofviolet What did I say about ASDA???

IveStillGotIt · 27/04/2010 17:58

I think it is disgusting to swear at tiny babys, however like others have said, she may be at the end of her tether, and she may have PND.
I often lose it with ds (nearly 10), and a few "for fuck sakes" have 'slipped' out, but it doesn't mean i love him any less, or that im a bad parent.
And if i ever saw anyone taking a photo of me in a supermarket or wherever, i would take the camera and shove it up their arse side-ways!!!

ShadeofViolet · 27/04/2010 18:00

Louise - I was refering to your whiter than white parenting attitudes. Just because you coped okay doesnt mean to say that everyone can, and PND isnt an excuse.

Foureleven - I cant take credit for it, but I wish I could.

ruddynorah · 27/04/2010 18:01

she probably just says fuck a lot. you know, instead of very, or really, or totally. some people do.

Madascheese · 27/04/2010 18:02

My oh my,
Once I've finished compliling my list of how perfect a parent I am I will be able to start developing a database of parenting 'fails' with a corresponding list of marks.

Once I've got that sorted I too will be able to wander round judging others, and infact awarding report card/certificates and of course the obligatory 'star of the day award'

Oh, or I could get a life.

It really is sad to see people being shouty and sweary at their children I totally agree, but what's sadder is when people look superior and judgy at you when you're at the end of your tether.

Times my DS has run riot in the Supermarket and been an utter terror and it's been the sympathetic smiles I've received that have actually stopped my losing my rag.

Children can push your buttons and drive you tto the very edge of your sanity, but that's beacuse they haven't developed and learnt to use their communication and reasoning skills, unlike (some) adults.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/04/2010 18:02

or she has a screamer

if you have had a screamer then you know what I am talking about

Alouiseg · 27/04/2010 18:04

If she's that vile in a public place then she can't have much restraint. So goodness knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Firstly she shouted into the cot, then she was disparaging about him to her friend. Regardless of the language used it is a very unpleasant way to treat a newborn.

I am more shocked that so many of you have defended the undefensible.

Once again mn can find an excuse for just about anything and try and turn it into a justification.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 18:04

I don't understand thew reference to the Monty Python sketch....

ShadeofViolet · 27/04/2010 18:04

BALD - I know what you are talking about, it was a bloody nightmare. I thought I had given birth to the devil incarnate!

usualsuspect · 27/04/2010 18:04

If anyone ever took a photo of me to show ss...I would say more than fuck thats for sure

IngridFletcher · 27/04/2010 18:04

I will hold my hands up and admit that I probably swore at all my babies. Not in public but in the middle of the night when they woke up yet again and I was exhausted. With the last one in particular I was at the end of my tether with the lack of sleep. Not my finest moment but it does not wipe out all the love and care I give them the rest of the time.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 18:06

It's not indefensible, many many defenses have been offered, Louise; it just so happens that you don't like it and that you think it's appalling and the lowest of the low.

I don't think it is as bad as you do, and neither do a lot of the people here. That's because we are different people to you, and actually, not everyone has to do what you say (no, don't cry, I know it's a shock)

lal123 · 27/04/2010 18:06

get a grip - the woman swore! Given the language on here its hardly the bloody crime of the century is it???

AchillesTortoise · 27/04/2010 18:07

Agree with alouiseg, and am a bit sickened by the apologists and how quickly she was ganged up on.

Yes, it is only a snapshot, but it didn't sound like she had any qualms speaking to a baby like this in the knowledge that others might hear, a friend included. And that would be a worry to me.

elliemental · 27/04/2010 18:07

I actually shop at all supermarkets. I am lucky, I am able to choose. I meant generally, all the superiority on here about where you do your shopping, as if somehow there's a hierarchy which means a Waitrose shopper is a perfect being.

Bog roll is bog roll.....and we all have to wipe our arses.

AchillesTortoise · 27/04/2010 18:07

And I have had a screamer

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 18:08

Why would it be a worry? In case the baby's ears burned? Seriously, what do you actually thikn the word 'fuck' will do to harm the baby?
