was a woman in asda with a small (maybe 4 months ish) baby, in a pram.. he was crying, she leaned into the pram said "why dont you justshut the fuck up" then turned to her friend and said "he never stops fucking crying"

not only is that not ok (in my book) but her friend didnt look shocked!

Oh yes, poor baby. She shouldn't have sworn at or about the baby, but she's not the only one to do have done it (I have) and it doesn't necessarily make her a terrible parent all round. She might be, but she might not be.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 17:45

poor baby! Didn't understand a sodding word and was probably screaming too loud to hear anything! Poor tiny completely unaffected baby!

Trafficcone · 27/04/2010 17:46

Shouting is one thing. I snapped at dd, an incessant crier, more than once and said 'stop it' or 'shut up', I was suffering from depression and she cried for 14 hrs a day on average, but to SWEAR at a tiny baby?
Utterly inexcusable, and revolting. The comment to her mate afterwards shows that she was calm, thought she was justified in her behaviour and her mate thought it acceptable too.

MegSophandEmma · 27/04/2010 17:46

wouldn't have? oops

BuzzingNoise · 27/04/2010 17:46

Now you're swearing at us. I shall contact social services

elliemental · 27/04/2010 17:46

can we fuck off with the snobbish chavsda comments please? Some of us hae no choice.

I was in Poundstretcher today and a woman was telling her son not to repeat what the dad was saying (B***d). The man then started shouting that it wasn't his fault the boy was repeating what he said

Unfortunately there are people who don't think this is a problem. I wouldn't dare say anything really as I quite like my teeth! Don't think you can reason with this type of person.

BuzzingNoise · 27/04/2010 17:47

Pronoia, you are so right!

BuzzingNoise · 27/04/2010 17:47

(as long as it's not a regular thing)

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 17:48

FUck is a word.

Fuck is a word no four month (or eight month) old baby understands.

Fuck is not a threat. It is only a word.

It is a word some adults don't like.

But the word fuck has never EVER in the entire course of history harmed any babies.

The word FUCK is, in fact, completely harmless.

Elliemental, Sainsbury's have far better reductions and bargains than Asda

toccatanfudge · 27/04/2010 17:50

I don't even try and pretend to be perfect, I sometimes swear (moreso when I'm in a situation not far removed from what reality described in her post, again not an "excuse" but there you go) , I smoke, my kids drink Fruitshoots, I buy ready meals sometimes, I take them to McDonald's

I'm sure there's a few more parenting "taboos" according to MN that I do as well but they've escaped me for now.

MegSophandEmma · 27/04/2010 17:50

I love the word FUCK - Fuckety FUCK is even better. Just me then? Okay.

BertieBotts · 27/04/2010 17:50

Swearing is not ideal, but it is just words. If you are around a lot of people who swear constantly then you tend to swear yourself without thinking. If your child is pre-verbal then you might not have yet begun to make an effort to avoid swearing around them. It doesn't automatically mean that someone is a terrible parent!

foureleven · 27/04/2010 17:51

Thank god for Asda keeping the riff raff out of Sainsburys.

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/04/2010 17:51

Pronoia yopu sound like a Monty Python sketch.

It is very sad that she swore at her baby, but not necessarily an indictement taht the baby is treated badly. Some people use swear words like other people would use punctuation.

It is horrible but a social services incident? No.

toccatanfudge · 27/04/2010 17:51

I FUCKING love my new shoes

and I'm going to fuck off now before I get myself worked up as 75% of my day I've felt like fucking shit

toccatanfudge · 27/04/2010 17:52

haha foureleven - our local sainsburies is full of people swearing, it's right next to one of the rough estates.

BuzzingNoise · 27/04/2010 17:52

Toccatanfudge, I love you

ShadeofViolet · 27/04/2010 17:52

I like ASDA

Louise If there was a cuntsnet, you would fit in nicely
