To think that Victoria Beckham is a bit of a national treasure?

I like her.

She works hard, has raised 3 sons and seems to do so well, was successful in one career (no matter what we may think of the Spice Girls), is supportive of her husband yet has been successful in starting another career.

I love the design of her dresses.

I think she is a good egg. God knows why she inspires such vitriol.

well it all looks good....we dont know her though, she might be a real cow in person!

compo · 26/04/2010 19:12

She just doesn't come across very well
maybe she should smile

Lulumaam · 26/04/2010 19:12

i think it i because she looks like she does not eat, and is totally obsessed with image, and superficiality.

she has done well, but so would i with £££££££££££ behind me!!

cyb · 26/04/2010 19:13

because she is talentless

Mooncupflowethover · 26/04/2010 19:14

YABU.

thisisyesterday · 26/04/2010 19:14

jealousy, that;s what.

people can;t seem to stand seeing someone doing well.

compo · 26/04/2010 19:14

Maybe I should be a national treasure? I've raised kids, support my dh , had a successful career

DeborahDevonshire · 26/04/2010 19:16

I don't know why she doesn't smile actually. Mind you you would think I was a miserable cow if you met me in RL as I rarely smile due to crooked teeth (oh how vain).

I like her. She seems to work hard. She could have thought sod this for a game of soldiers when she met david Beckham, however she still worked and earned her own money, and is successful.

Think she is quite canny.

Haven't got time to consider her tbh.

EsmeWeatherwax · 26/04/2010 19:18

Yabu. If she's a national treasure, doesn't say much for this country. Completely talentless no-mark.

DeborahDevonshire · 26/04/2010 19:18

Yes, let's ALL be national treasures

Fair point, Compo. But there are lots of celebrities who are famous for riding the coat tails of their husbands success (Colleen Rooney, Alex Curran, Jo Wood, Danielle Bux) that I actually like her for bucking the trend.

She has several nannies afaik (or at least one full time). I remember reading an article about how she was at a hotel and the nanny would bring the dcs down to her for a visit at the pool. In those circumstances I would be like Superwoman

sungirltan · 26/04/2010 19:25

even though everyone laughs at me i asked for her style book one xmas. it was actually quite good. i still follow bits of the advice. i rather like her but understand why being that skinny she might not be the best role model for teens.

TheCrackFox · 26/04/2010 19:25

IMO National treasures should, at the very leasr, live in this country.

I don't think how skinny she is should be held against her. I don't think she is unhealthily thin tbh. She suit being slim. We woulnd't say we didn't like dawn French or Jo Brand because they were fat.

Agree most interviews/articles say she comes across as bright, funny and nice.

Her kids look lovely as well.

MudandRoses · 26/04/2010 19:29

I don't have time or energy to hate or even care about the woman but I don't see how having had the luck to be picked for stardom (it wasn't her hard work or talent that got her into the Spice Girls), and then using that celebrity to further another (pretty vacuous) career, while staying married and having kids, makes you a national treasure??

In fact not sure you would feel the need to post this in AIBU, unless to stir up controversy...?

BendyBob · 26/04/2010 19:39

I think she seems ok when I've seen her interviewed; quite self effacing. But she comes over quite differently photos. She's certainly made a very little talent stretch a blimmin long way.

Like the clothes. Does she actually design them herself? Not too sure.

Not a National Treasure though. She's a bit too young if nothing else. To me that means an old buffoon/duffer types like the highly annoying Stephen Fry or ott and proud of it Miss Cilla Blaaaack.

No, not stir up controversy! Christ I could think of subjects far more controversial and interesting than this to start a row!

I was just reading about her in the ST rich list, and talking to DD about her. DD thinks she is saddo, I don't know what VB has done to inspire such dislike, actually, hence the thread.

TheJollyPirate · 26/04/2010 19:43

Oh I like her - she always comes across well in interviews (as does her hubby).

Not sure if that makes her a "national treasure" but certainly not worthy of the vitriol she attracts.

DeborahDevonshire · 26/04/2010 19:43

I don't know if she is too young, bendyBob (I love your name), Cheryl Cole seems to have achieved National treasure status and has a remarkably similar path of fame.

I wish she smiled more, im sure she has a good sense of humour,,, somewhere

I am jealous, i have been known to rub my thighs and drool as Mr Beckham comes onto the pitch ;)

I do however think she is a jammy bitch, she really doesn't seem to have a huge or even reasonable talent.
But fair play, i would cash in on my image if i was in her shoes.

Without her marriage she wouldn't be as big as she is now fo sho.

OTTMummA · 26/04/2010 19:49

oooh, and she definately needs to be seen doing more for charity to become a national treasure, that and get a few lines and wrinkles
